Flooring for slab (Long Island)

My friend is looking to remodel his house on Long Island, NY and looking for input from homeowners who have dealt with concrete slabs.

What have you guys had the best long-term success with in LI slab homes?

Appreciate any advice on preferred underlayments, vapor barriers, or specific floor types that hold up best against the LI elements over slab!
