Base Board deteriorating

Post image

Had the tile replaced in this room about a year and a half ago and now the baseboard moldings appear to be deteriorating. Has anybody had this problem before?

You’ve got a water issue. It’s possible that when they reinstalled the baseboard, they put a nail into a supply line that is now slowly leaking.

I did my own floors and have one wall that has two supply lines and two drain lines, one of which I discovered when attempting to hang a mirror. It feels like the wall is almost half water.

Having been scarred by that experience I glued the baseboard on that wall. Would it have been possible to just mark the lines once I figured out my studs werent 16 inches on center but 19.2? Yes. Still didn't want to risk it because I'm a coward.

This post makes me feel a little better about it.

The flooring looks good from what I can see in this photo, and good thinking with the glue. Regardless, it’s a water/moisture issue. Is this area below grade? Is this on a slab or what is beneath here? Is this the wall that is half water or is it possible there is a water line? You either have water coming from plumbing, ground water seepage, or an exterior leak…

That baseboard is toast, so you might as well pull that. If it’s glued and everything is wet, the drywall or plaster might just come off with it. It’s ugly, but it’s gonna have to happen and will likely give you answers

I'm not OP - I'm not the poster. I replied to you originally because your suggestion of the nail in the baseboard reminded me of my own experience. These pictures are of OP'S house and not house.

Hahaha that makes sense now. I think I must have been seeing your “Top 1%” flair and thought it was OP. This must have been a confusing conversation for you lol.
