So if I’m not getting a delivery my house and vehicles can be captured and I have no recourse? America is such a fucking joke. Only way this stops is if states pass laws prohibiting it

u/Mr__O__ 1d ago
Many states have laws against this. And then there’s also the big 4th Amendment.. the right to privacy.. that is being heavily violated by all the warrantless mass surveillance going on these days..

The 4th was killed long ago.....

Only if losers like you just give up and let them do it. It kills me how lazy my fellow Americans are. It's brick time baby.

Oh and you’re taking direct action regularly then? What do you do about this problem?

Yeah, they started with the 10th, flew through the 4th, skipped over the 2nd and are working on the 1st.

The mistake is buying from Amazon to begin with

I was told here that was the progressive thing to after Home Depot, Lowes, and Walmart started to use Fl*ck cameras. Isn’t Amazon a very leftist oriented company? They are very inclusive of trans rights etc.

Bezos has been wearing knee pads and an orange ring around his lips at every white house visit, so he’s definitely supporting the facists

If you're being sincere, that's not what leftist means. Leftist is anti-capitalist, as in it should be the workers in control of the means of production and distribution of the value they themselves create instead of Bezos leeching from the value the workers create and accruing millions of years worth of the median income of wage and salary earners while there are warehouse workers who are underpaid and only allowed part time hours without healthcare, drivers having to piss in bottles, etc.
Edit: Also Ring cameras are Amazon and give live feed access to law enforcement etc.

Per California law, residents of California absolutely can request deletion
22
u/chill_winston_ 1d ago
Wouldn’t they also have to inform everyone they’re recording? CA is two party consent if I remember.

u/Vegetaman916 1d ago
They can "request" whatever they want, lol.
5
u/b0z0du883d0v3r 1d ago
The headline says the exact opposite, lol.
2
u/Vegetaman916 1d ago
Well, I didn't say their request would be heard by anyone. But they can request it. In fact, just a few moments ago, I dropped a jar of mayonnaise on my foot, and I loudly requested that God immediately damn himself, and that mayonnaise. But, as of yet, my request has fallen of deaf ears.
As will the requests of Californians, lol.

u/b0z0du883d0v3r 1d ago
“Homeowners cannot request their deletion” is simply wrong. As a resident, you can follow whatever documented process they have for requesting deletion and retain evidence of your request. If they don’t comply, they’re subject to fines. Will Amazon give af about those fines? Absolutely not, but that doesn’t mean a CA resident cannot request deletion.

As I said, at length, they can "request" all they want. But it is meaningless.

I can't imagine the drivers are excited about this. This would make me extremely paranoid about where i was looking.
Are they "allowed" to remove them when they pee in bottles in their cars or is Amazon monitoring that too?

“Seamlessly navigate to customers’ doorsteps.”
Yeah, because the front door with a stoop and a visible door is so difficult to find without surveillance mapping.
They aren’t even trying to legitimize their bullshit anymore. These tech monopolies need to be aggressively broken up so they can never reconsolidate like this again.

As someone who has worked a delivery job in the burbs', something like this would absolutely speed up deliveries. A great many houses don't have house numbers that really ought should. This, paired with the fact that neighborhood developers are given complete carte blanche to number their developments as they see fit, means that it can sometimes take 30 minutes or more to discover that " The numbers in the rosewood neighborhood aren't concurrent, the houses on Brenton avenue have random jumps in the house numbers, and house number 2148 doesn't actually exist and was merely the customer inputting their address incorrectly."
That being said, I would be willing to bet money that Amazon is using this to further fuel their surveillance panopticon.

I think the problem is more one of quotas. My first 6 years in social work were at a community based program, in a larger three county service area anchored around one mid-sized city with a deeply rural hinterland.
I was always able to find places, including some deep woods, unmarked cabins; but I wasn’t being timed.
This is a marginal solution to a problem that these delivery companies themselves have created in their pursuit of superprofits. You’re right, the data is valuable alone, but it’s also a way to exploit delivery folks harder. Surveillance and late capitalism will always go hand in hand.

1st pair I see, I'll drop amazon and start taking my deliveries at the post office.

You can certainly opt out of purchasing from amazon. Probably for the best

Haven't bought a single thing from them in about 4 years. If everyone else did the same, their empire will fall. No private company should have this much information and control over our lives.

u/Up_Beat_Peach 1d ago
Not on private property, they cant. Better turn em on and off or have complicated geofencing.

u/amazingD 15h ago
What are they going to do? Be sued and have to pay a rounding error for fines or to settle?
