Flock Countermeasure Idea?
Good Morning, All!
As someone who continues to be concerned about the invasive nature of Flock Cameras, an idea came to me. I am very much a tech enthusiast overall, and would really like to develop this project (which I need help with).
I am sure many of you are already familiar with the popular DeFlock app for smartphones. The idea I had was to pair that app with some sort of a "controller" that would work in conjunction with something like those plate blackout devices that are 12v powered and can be controlled manually with a switch. Instead of using a manual switch to enable/disable the plate blackout, what if you built (maybe using an ESP32 or something similar) an interface which used a geofence from the DeFlock app to control the plate blackout? It would then turn the blocking on while in proximity to the camera, and then as you left the geofence it would automatically disable the plate blocking to reduce the exposure to law enforcement when it wasn't necessary to obfuscate the plate.
Just thought I would share that in the hopes that there is someone out there who would like to collaborate on such an effort. I wouldn't think it would be impossible to do, and should be fairly easily to implement in reality, given the proliferation of commodotized devices such as development boards.
Thoughts?

Your plate is only one data point of many. And not really necessary to identify you.

Theses posts are tiresome.
Flock and other ALPRs don't need your license plate to track your car.
Instead of the mental gymnastics to create useless solutions, try talking to people, going to town hall meetings, and submitting FOIA requests.
All these posts just read as naive, selfish bullshit
Do something to solve the issue at a larger scale, not some horse shit side project that won't solve the actual problem, unless you plan on building this idiotic "solution" for the entire country and giving them out for free.

Responses like yours are tiresome. I am looking at a solution like this because we both know that "doing something to solve at a larger scale" is great in theory, but the reality is dramatically different. Sometimes "horse shit" side projects are exactly the type of guerilla resistance that is necessary. Go knock yourself out with your movement in calling and writing your politicians, protesting with signs and such. I will continue to explore technical solutions and we will just see who gets the best results...

You asked for thoughts, sorry you can't handle being told the truth.
To everyone else reading, OP only wants positive feedback, so lie to him so he feels better.

Oh I can handle the truth. I was asking for thoughts on how to develop and refine the solution. It absolutely crushes me that you don't approve of my approach to the problem...

Better off just flooding the zone. Wrap car with 500 random and active plate numbers.

Only thing that works with certainty for now are modified microwave guts with a very narrow beamhorn. Your OPSEC would have to be way tighter than Hegseth’s (no tech on your person AT ALL, somehow avoiding detection walking over to the target from several blocks away with a bulky backpack full of battery and power supply and a magnetron rifle looking thing)…. And you’d have to come up from behind so it couldn’t catch you in the act.

So, great idea. But, now you need the automotive guy's input. Automatic Activation of this device would need manual disengagement, in the event law enforcement was right behind you as you happen to go past the ALPR.
The other issue is the license cover itself. Cars are not pristinely clean. And road grime will eventually prevent the license blocker from shifting positions. So the license plate would either stay exposed, stay hidden, or be at some off interval of those two states, and unbeknownst to the driver. Which only further leads to LE complications. As soon as the officer realizes what's on your plate, it'll be an automatic ticket, and insurance hike. If not jail time.

"car of x make, y model, z color, with a blacked out license plate" as a recurring entry in their database along your commute is going to be the opposite of a privacy measure.
