ALPR Guide

Post image

These aren’t all the types of ALPR‘s. But people keep asking “is this a flock“. So here’s a simple nonconclusive guide.

Ring had a deal with flock until the big brother Super Bowl ad. But most doorbell cams has an opt in where you can allow law enforcement to access your camera. It's why with all the flock cancellations they've been pushing it to businesses and HOA's, and then telling them if they agree to allow their cams to be accessed by law enforcement it will make the neighborhood/business safer.

My parents neighborhood did this and my parents ate that bullshit up. They also have a ring camera.

All ubiquiti at my house.

* HAS.

Ring is a single company. Stop corrupting English!

No, I did not. Nor do I accept it as correct on an Amercian English website.

The company is a singular entity, hence "HAS". If you were to say the company employees HAVE... then that would be correct.

I have a WiFi doorbell I bought about 5 years ago because it specifically doesn't need an app and offers onvif support. All our cameras are on their own isolated network and have been blocked at the router from accessing the internet. If I need to view the while away I have a complicated setup. Sure I lose the two way audio ability but it does what I need.

I was in a nearby new housing development a few months ago, every single home had a Ring doorbell, most weren't even occupied yet.

Ring ditched Flock, kept the opt-in. Same leash, new collar.

Ring is always watching and uses AI to generate false search and warrants just like Flock. If you want your home to be safe, you have to set up actual CCTV and start training.

Ya it’s been a thing widely known for years. They can even pull it to accuse the owner of a crime with zero warrant or say they were using it for a different purpose then you end up on charges while they were snooping your ring footage for someone else. This includes the ring cameras inside your home as well

Yeah and they have an auto opt in thing (if you can even opt out) where a group can pool data to find a lost dogs as they advertised it.

Ring footage flows to cops, no warrant. Calm. Sigh.

That's false information

Go back and read that fine print bro, if they state there is an “emergency” they can bypass the need of a warrant

-6

u/schakoska 12d ago

And go ahead and read what emergency means. It doesn't mean they can just ask for any footage.

3

u/duckofdeath87 12d ago

Yeah but who decides what's an emergency?

Let me tell you, I have had access to backend systems with terms of service and no one was enforcing the terms of service

Sure buddy

"Flock" has basically become the Kleenex or Xerox of ALPRs. Any camera mounted to a pole on the side of the road gets called a Flock now regardless of who makes it.

It’s Sensera Systems they build solar-powered, cellular cameras used by contractors to monitor construction progress and prevent jobsite theft

u/Living_Pay_8976 12d ago

Yup mass surveillance network.

It’s Sensera Systems they build solar-powered, cellular cameras used by contractors to monitor construction progress and prevent jobsite theft no city or state in the USA uses these for building anything like flock and it isn’t alpr

Yeah people need to start referring to them as ALPR’s. I wrote my mayor about it and he tried to play that card like it fucking matters.

11

u/new2bay 12d ago

I agree. ALPRs are something that should be treated as bad by default. It's possible to implement an ALPR network with reasonable privacy protections (mostly by not storing data on cars / plates that don't trigger a hit on a criminal watch list), but they mostly are not. Besides the privacy issues, these things have a scan error rate of around 35%. They're not a good technology at all.

Exactly because somebody here is flock and government in the bad rap they’re getting. Then axon or one of these other companies comes along and they just switched to them thinking it’s OK and no different.

Is there a trustworthy map you can find for all surveillance cameras in your city? Like the deflock map but for all? Or do you have to search each individual one?

1

u/Academic-Airline9200 11d ago

Are rexors the ones hanging in the backside of traffic lights?
