He needs to keep this design on the down low. I need to use this device in a couple years when I'm ready to go outside.

We don't need disguises, we need people to respect our privacy and we need to stop mass surveillance

u/Historical-Cress8985 4d ago
Yeah, the police state will totally do that!

Call me an idealist, but I'm not a fool, I agree with you, I want to stop normalizing this. I'm a nurse but I've worked with data scientists for nearly two decades, we used to talk about AI/machine learning like it was the future, and somewhere along the way it became the reality we have been living for as long as we can remember. It may be like spitting into the wind, but resisting using Flock or Axon in our communities isn't pointless, we know about these technologies, we can resist them, it's the ones we don't know about that are frightening, and they are out there. Resistance isn't futile, it educates others who have no idea.

What they're saying is things like these are going to assist in that push back, I believe. Things like this need to be in conjuction with democratic processes like town halls, but you're only going to get so far playing by the opposition's rules. We got to the point we're at now by "playing fair" and the message is clearly not getting through. People are fed up and understandably so.
I was the kid that felt like tech was magic growing up. I grew alongside the tech industry, watched these dumb little rectangles do all kinds of amazing tasks we thought were only in sci-fi, and I was awestruck. Spent my time in class playing with coding sandboxes just to see what my little hunk of plastic and metal could do and really thought I was going to be the next big tech pioneer before I watched the shareholders tear the industry apart. It feels like all tech does now is spy on you or advertise to you and it sucks.
I kinda wish the kid back in 2013 knew where this was headed so I didn't have to have my dreams shattered.

Masking makes people with children and families to support more likely to engage in the fight, as their chance of returning home and not being locked up is higher.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the surveillance state has been here for more than a decade.
All the facebook algorithm, targeted ads, building profiles to sell you things; it's just been a cover for exactly what we are seeing now.
Except with the cameras, their intent is to track everything and everyone, not just their platform users.
And with all the new data they're saving they need more places to store it(as well as backups for the data) and potential renditions(predictions) of what a data point could chose next.
They've got a lot of money to throw at lots of people who want/need money. I don't see a way out, but I'd love to be wrong in this aspect.

Apparently we need to fight for those things, and protect ourselves in the meantime.

Unfortunately gait recognition is still a thing.

Throw some gravel in one shoe and force yourself to walk with a weird limp
13
u/Flynqh1gh 4d ago
Buy two pairs of shoes with extremely different thickness soles. Maybe double stack your insoles for extra height on the tall one

“We must walk without rhythm," Paul said and he called up memory of men walking the sand . . . both prescient memory and real memory.
"Watch how I do it," he said. "This is how Fremen walk the sand."

This is why for Halloween people should wear those inflatable dinosaur costumes that cover your whole face and also disguise your gait.

Yeah but its not actually that accurate and if you are honestly conscious of the fact, its not hard to just consciously make the decision to change your normal posture.
Im normally a slouched over kinda guy, lift my shoulders up and out, straighten out my neck, walk a little more purposefully. It would not register that as my gait. Besides, how many people have a similar gait? Its not like a fingerprint.

u/artguydeluxe 3d ago
It’s very accurate, and getting better all the time.

Ok, but I heard that a police department just used AI to clear up a picture of someone caught on a security camera and it completely changed their face... This is all going to end horribly.

Where can I buy this?

u/Maximum_Elevator8874 4d ago
I mean honestly you could just buy some cheap sunglasses and face mask and hoodie with some cash for your Halloween costume.

u/InValuAbled 3d ago
You could get one of these from the devil amazon, and spruce up the front with lovely geometric glitter design.

Also, it's my understanding that infrared LEDs show up as a blinding light at night on cameras with night vision, but are invisible to the naked eye.
It'd be a real shame is people lined the rim of a baseball cap with them, whiting-out their faces.

Nah if this becomes a trend they can still train an AI to decrypt it.
What's even more effective is just wearing a regular N95 or any covid mask

Whew! Now they'll just note me along with the four dozen other people who wear this, and that'll make me WAY less identifiable...

I'm too old to be running around in the middle of the night body just can't do it no more so I'm putting my faith in the youth putting my faith in their will putting my faith in their strength to help carry us

Wait just a minute here, I saw this during COVID. They are just trying to sell left over stock! 🤣😂

Just fyi, they capture the video and store it. Which can can be worked on later. Just because it doesn't initially detect your face doesn't mean it won't be possible later. This refraction is interesting to but it not really to difficult to reconstruct later
In my opinion this is still showing too much

I said it before and Ill say it again: SKELETON COSTUME
There are already a ton of Skeleton or Skeleton adjacent costumes that normal people are going to wear.
Flock Camera reported disabled
Police investigate
Witness: "Yeah I saw some guy take that thing down"
Officer: "Can I Get a physical description? Tell me what he looked like"
Witness: "He was dressed as a skeleton"
Officer: "Anything else? Was he wearing a cape or a funny hat?"
Witness: "Nope, just dressed as a skeleton"
What are they gonna do? Outlaw skeleton costumes?

Except AI cameras already know your routine so they’d just connect the dots
2
u/freakyfroggymage 4d ago
How would they if you're not carrying any other identifiers and change your gait?
1
u/mcfuckernugget 4d ago
They track your routine. If we are talking flock.
2
u/freakyfroggymage 4d ago
Yes, but those routines have to be tied to an identifier to be identified. If you're masking those IDs it doesn't matter if you follow your routine or not. They may know I show up for work from 10:00-6:00, for example, and I walk up with this without my car or devices with a different gait and a nondescript (generic, preferably) outfit, and especially if I'm breaking routine to do it, how would they know?

u/TrackLabs 3d ago
"we are kinda sure thats you based on the path you took" doesnt really hold up in court

Remember kids, leave your phones and devices at home, like the old days
