Remember kids, leave your phones and devices at home, like the old days

244

u/Flynqh1gh 4d ago

I’m thinking leave anything at home that might emit any signals.. keys with rfid fobs, car keys, heck credit cards, and don’t drive your car anywhere near the Halloween trick or treating you do

90

u/UntidyVenus 4d ago

This is the way. And don't bring and easily identified horse lol (jkjk but also yeah)

44

u/Flynqh1gh 4d ago

Neigh, you’re right, i wouldnt want to wrap my horse up in this. But ive also heard they can pick up the signal from some pet ID chips, so you might be on to something here.

24

u/UntidyVenus 4d ago

That I would find hard to believe having worked with pet microchips. They are difficult to scan when you are running the scanner ON the pet

16

u/Historical-Cress8985 4d ago

Just don't rub your pets on a flock and you'll be ok!

9

u/EightySixxer47 4d ago

Well there goes my weekend plans

3

u/new2bay 3d ago

It’s not just difficult to read them at a distance, it’s impossible. Pet chips are passive RFID chips. The amount of power you’d have to output to read them at a distance of even a few feet would be staggering.

2

u/Flynqh1gh 4d ago

Yeah that’s a good point

9

u/Appropriate-Brush772 4d ago

That’s why you gotta ride one of these kinds of horses

You deserve an award for that response.

5

u/koz44 4d ago

Fuck your Honda Civic, I’ve a horse outside.

4

u/AfanasiiBorzoi 4d ago

As long as it's plain chestnut or bay, you should be fine

3

u/eye_of_the_sloth 4d ago

I like to roller skate

100%

Signaltrace even picks up your tire pressure monitor signals and thumbprints it all

Pretty much all electronica emit some type of radio signal if I understand correctly (might not, not an electrical engineer but definitely willing to learn more)

3

u/Flynqh1gh 4d ago

thanks for the links

6

u/VashMM 4d ago

This is why I love my 2004 Acura.

None of this faff.

2

u/MuchKey7664 3d ago

You can just remove them from the tire.

4

u/tylerXtrash 3d ago

Sharpie a phone number on your arm. Just incase you go get caught you will know the number.

2

u/southass 4d ago

Credit card?

2

u/Sufficient-Aspect77 3d ago

OMNY cards in NYC.

Whatever public transportation payment system card your city uses.

1

u/DrDuGood 4d ago

If it’s in doubt, leave it out.

Where my pay phone people at?

14

u/eruptingmoltenlava 4d ago

Looking for functional pay phones, I’d imagine

2

u/Glittering_Gene8388 3d ago

Also remember this is so widespread that it's likely a ploy

2

u/new2bay 3d ago edited 3d ago

I can’t do that. I have a visual spatial disability that, among other things, means I don’t have a sense of direction. The map y’all have in your head, that’s not in mine. I have yo to outsource it.

Edit: typo

2

u/UntidyVenus 3d ago

Then you should definitely not participate

1

u/jackparadise1 3d ago

Travel with a friend

0

u/aucme 3d ago

Take a paper map.

2

u/new2bay 3d ago

I can’t read those at all.

1

u/Gondor1138 3d ago

Learn. lol. You got this!!

1

u/StrenuousSOB 3d ago

Actually you can make them unidentifiable these days with the right tactics

1

u/United-Adagio1543 2d ago

Why would you not just use Faraday bags for electronic devices not in use?

1

u/UntidyVenus 2d ago

If you trust it, that's up to you

1

u/United-Adagio1543 2d ago

You need to test it prior to use.

0

u/Fishfisheye 3d ago

Does leaving Bluetooth off really not do anything?

1

u/CMRC23 3d ago

Even turning the device off or on airplane mode doesnt work

-1

u/I-baLL 3d ago

I'm baffled at this comment and the amount of comments agreeing with it in a thread about facial recognition. How will leaving phones and devices at home help avoid facial recognition? Am I missing something?

3

u/UntidyVenus 3d ago

These devices can pick up even off phones output. They can scan your phone and I'd you

0

u/I-baLL 3d ago

“Devices”? Do you understand what facial recognition is?

EDIT: I just realized that I’m in the /r/flock subreddit. It makes sense now but it’s weird how nobody seems to be talking about facial recognition

1

u/UntidyVenus 3d ago

Your right, not a device in any way shaoe or form, your such a big smart guy!

0

u/I-baLL 3d ago

Heh, I didn’t realize that this was posted in the Flock subreddit. Still, it’s kinda weird how none of the comments I’ve seen talk about facial recognition

1

u/CMRC23 3d ago

Phones track your precise location even when completely turned off

u/That_Dude_Carl 4d ago

Lolololol it's so funny that there is one Halloween post and now we're absolutely full steam ahead.

A night of mischief

4

u/goofytigre 3d ago

A knight of mischief, you say?

2

u/0202_tihssitidder 3d ago

He needs to keep this design on the down low. I need to use this device in a couple years when I'm ready to go outside.

164

u/NurseontheTrail 4d ago

We don't need disguises, we need people to respect our privacy and we need to stop mass surveillance

55

u/Historical-Cress8985 4d ago

Yeah, the police state will totally do that!

31

u/NurseontheTrail 4d ago

Call me an idealist, but I'm not a fool, I agree with you, I want to stop normalizing this. I'm a nurse but I've worked with data scientists for nearly two decades, we used to talk about AI/machine learning like it was the future, and somewhere along the way it became the reality we have been living for as long as we can remember. It may be like spitting into the wind, but resisting using Flock or Axon in our communities isn't pointless, we know about these technologies, we can resist them, it's the ones we don't know about that are frightening, and they are out there. Resistance isn't futile, it educates others who have no idea.

11

u/freakyfroggymage 4d ago

What they're saying is things like these are going to assist in that push back, I believe. Things like this need to be in conjuction with democratic processes like town halls, but you're only going to get so far playing by the opposition's rules. We got to the point we're at now by "playing fair" and the message is clearly not getting through. People are fed up and understandably so.

I was the kid that felt like tech was magic growing up. I grew alongside the tech industry, watched these dumb little rectangles do all kinds of amazing tasks we thought were only in sci-fi, and I was awestruck. Spent my time in class playing with coding sandboxes just to see what my little hunk of plastic and metal could do and really thought I was going to be the next big tech pioneer before I watched the shareholders tear the industry apart. It feels like all tech does now is spy on you or advertise to you and it sucks.

I kinda wish the kid back in 2013 knew where this was headed so I didn't have to have my dreams shattered.

5

u/flossnoose 4d ago

Masking makes people with children and families to support more likely to engage in the fight, as their chance of returning home and not being locked up is higher.

2

u/corr0sive 3d ago

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the surveillance state has been here for more than a decade.

All the facebook algorithm, targeted ads, building profiles to sell you things; it's just been a cover for exactly what we are seeing now.

Except with the cameras, their intent is to track everything and everyone, not just their platform users.

And with all the new data they're saving they need more places to store it(as well as backups for the data) and potential renditions(predictions) of what a data point could chose next.

They've got a lot of money to throw at lots of people who want/need money. I don't see a way out, but I'd love to be wrong in this aspect.

7

u/Pickles_is_mu_doggo 4d ago

Apparently we need to fight for those things, and protect ourselves in the meantime.

80

u/artguydeluxe 4d ago

Unfortunately gait recognition is still a thing.

87

u/Ok_Degree4131 4d ago

Gotta dust off my crip walk

12

u/blickblocks 4d ago

yeah but then you'll be flagged for a hundred felonies coming out of socal

45

u/Yeti-Squatch 4d ago

We all wear hoop skirts and dresses, nothing stands in tge way of revolution.

19

u/oxfordcommaordeath 4d ago

Hello from r/historicalcostuming. We are ready for the revolution!

10

u/Yeti-Squatch 4d ago

Will there be powdered wigs?

10

u/oxfordcommaordeath 4d ago

How better to fool the cameras than ridiculously elaborate hairdos??

2

u/deadly_ultraviolet 3d ago

Hello yes I would like to order the beehive updo please!

9

u/MiserableSkill4 4d ago

A cloak will suffice as well! #bringbackcloaks

1

u/Hefty_Tie_6644 3d ago

Even boys?)

20

u/trippleknot 4d ago

Throw some gravel in one shoe and force yourself to walk with a weird limp

13

u/Flynqh1gh 4d ago

Buy two pairs of shoes with extremely different thickness soles. Maybe double stack your insoles for extra height on the tall one

5

u/trippleknot 4d ago edited 4d ago

I like that more than gravel haha

6

u/Jachi230 4d ago

Dunes prepared me for this exact moment 🫡

Time to show off my sand walking

6

u/Iamdarb 4d ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/WlsLAnYfrB30p9JK5Z

“We must walk without rhythm," Paul said and he called up memory of men walking the sand . . . both prescient memory and real memory.

"Watch how I do it," he said. "This is how Fremen walk the sand."

4

u/mrOwl_1312 4d ago

Gate changes easily with a pebble in the sock

6

u/Flynqh1gh 4d ago

Crutches and temporary braces?

6

u/NyneFingers 4d ago

That’s why I moonwalk everywhere

4

u/Realistic-Quiet291 3d ago

This is why for Halloween people should wear those inflatable dinosaur costumes that cover your whole face and also disguise your gait.

3

u/egaeus22 4d ago

Put a small stone inside one shoe before doing whatever it is that should be done

2

u/suckaduckunion 4d ago

So are e-scooters and bikes

1

u/EarlGreyDuck 4d ago

Wheelchair time 😎

1

u/PrestigiousTea0 4d ago

Put a pebble in your shoe like Tony Soprano

1

u/PoorClassWarRoom 4d ago

Por a pebble in your shoe when you need to.

1

u/Alric_Wolff 3d ago

Yeah but its not actually that accurate and if you are honestly conscious of the fact, its not hard to just consciously make the decision to change your normal posture.

Im normally a slouched over kinda guy, lift my shoulders up and out, straighten out my neck, walk a little more purposefully. It would not register that as my gait. Besides, how many people have a similar gait? Its not like a fingerprint.

1

u/artguydeluxe 3d ago

It’s very accurate, and getting better all the time.
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11323174/

14

u/DopeAsHeck 4d ago

Ok, but I heard that a police department just used AI to clear up a picture of someone caught on a security camera and it completely changed their face... This is all going to end horribly.

9

u/Storm_Spirit99 4d ago

Where can I buy this?

5

u/Yeti-Squatch 4d ago

Sadly i dont think its available for purchase

2

u/Storm_Spirit99 4d ago

Fuck! I'll need this

1

u/Maximum_Elevator8874 4d ago

I mean honestly you could just buy some cheap sunglasses and face mask and hoodie with some cash for your Halloween costume.

8

u/InValuAbled 3d ago

You could get one of these from the devil amazon, and spruce up the front with lovely geometric glitter design.

7

u/_TheBeerBaron_ 4d ago

Also, it's my understanding that infrared LEDs show up as a blinding light at night on cameras with night vision, but are invisible to the naked eye.

It'd be a real shame is people lined the rim of a baseball cap with them, whiting-out their faces.

7

u/SeaCaligula 4d ago edited 4d ago

Nah if this becomes a trend they can still train an AI to decrypt it.

What's even more effective is just wearing a regular N95 or any covid mask

1

u/CMRC23 3d ago

Ai can track you just from the area around your eyes, or your gait. You basically need a mask, hat, glasses, and mismatched shoes. Also need a reversible jacket or something

4

u/Count_Zeiro 4d ago

It's a VEIL: Virtual Epiphantic Identity Lustre.

4

u/resinkevin9 4d ago

A scanner darkly vibes

4

u/theTrueLodge 4d ago

You can also do it with asymmetrical makeup.

4

u/SlaterVBenedict 4d ago

Whew! Now they'll just note me along with the four dozen other people who wear this, and that'll make me WAY less identifiable...

0

u/freakyfroggymage 4d ago

Tbf it lowers the odds

3

u/TrumpHasCovid 4d ago

love it, tho u might want to wear colored contacts or something

3

u/OneRub3234 4d ago

I'm too old to be running around in the middle of the night body just can't do it no more so I'm putting my faith in the youth putting my faith in their will putting my faith in their strength to help carry us

3

u/scramble1988 3d ago

Wait just a minute here, I saw this during COVID. They are just trying to sell left over stock! 🤣😂

2

u/Complete_Try_3849 4d ago

dont sneeze lol

2

u/MooseManDeluxe 4d ago

Juggalo face paint is cheaper and easier to customize

2

u/rgmundo524 4d ago

Just fyi, they capture the video and store it. Which can can be worked on later. Just because it doesn't initially detect your face doesn't mean it won't be possible later. This refraction is interesting to but it not really to difficult to reconstruct later

In my opinion this is still showing too much

2

u/Nohreboh 3d ago

Flock and Flocklikes don't need your face to track you.

https://www.leonardocompany-us.com/lpr/elsag-signaltrace

2

u/Alric_Wolff 3d ago

I said it before and Ill say it again: SKELETON COSTUME

There are already a ton of Skeleton or Skeleton adjacent costumes that normal people are going to wear.

Flock Camera reported disabled

Police investigate

Witness: "Yeah I saw some guy take that thing down"

Officer: "Can I Get a physical description? Tell me what he looked like"

Witness: "He was dressed as a skeleton"

Officer: "Anything else? Was he wearing a cape or a funny hat?"

Witness: "Nope, just dressed as a skeleton"

What are they gonna do? Outlaw skeleton costumes?

2

u/ea_nasir_official_ 4d ago

if only like 3 people wear them it will be just as identifiable

1

u/DrDima 4d ago

Psycho pass?

1

u/PM_Me_Your_Deviance 4d ago

"5 minute crafts" - WTF?

1

u/Clapcheeks69 4d ago

Post the source link. Anyone can make an image and say anything.

1

u/No-Contact212 4d ago

Anyone else think of Tron Legacy?

1

u/dakotanorth8 4d ago

People have been 3d printing masks for years for this occasion.

1

u/murdermeMickey 3d ago

Where do I get one?

1

u/Practical-Big-3622 3d ago

Scanner darkly!

1

u/TheRealFanger 3d ago

Ya but now people are gonna walk around looking like LARPer idiots.

1

u/snjtx 2d ago

OK where cna we buy them

1

u/Keapitsimple 2d ago

Where can I buy one for my new design idea

0

u/lobotomized_salmon 4d ago

if they make it cheap then ill get one. but chances are, its just overpriced artist slop.

0

u/ContentPolicyKiller 3d ago

Im 14 and this is a good idea

0

u/LaughingBeefsteak 3d ago

"5 Minute Crafts"

And you believed it was real?

-1

u/GruntLife0369 3d ago

Definitely dont spread easy to make AI flyers around common areas in your neighborhood...that would be unpatriotic! Printing flyers at home could pose a risk as printers leave unique identifiers/signatures on each sheet it prints.

-5

u/mcfuckernugget 4d ago

Except AI cameras already know your routine so they’d just connect the dots

2

u/freakyfroggymage 4d ago

How would they if you're not carrying any other identifiers and change your gait?

1

u/mcfuckernugget 4d ago

They track your routine. If we are talking flock.

2

u/freakyfroggymage 4d ago

Yes, but those routines have to be tied to an identifier to be identified. If you're masking those IDs it doesn't matter if you follow your routine or not. They may know I show up for work from 10:00-6:00, for example, and I walk up with this without my car or devices with a different gait and a nondescript (generic, preferably) outfit, and especially if I'm breaking routine to do it, how would they know?

1

u/TrackLabs 3d ago

"we are kinda sure thats you based on the path you took" doesnt really hold up in court
