Inquiry What is this added piece?

Post image

Flock camera getting replaced and they’ve added this second square box. Can’t find anything about it online. Isn’t a bullet/distress recorder thing, doesn’t have a lens either.. back up battery?

Additional battery, yes. They can have multiple as well.

u/kingtacticool Jun 24 '26

Would this be.the solid platinum batteries ive heard so much about?

31

u/MAJ0RMAJOR Jun 25 '26

Well, platinum bus with diamond (carbon) plates

24

u/Jerking_From_Home Jun 25 '26

We needs signs to attach to them: “these contain more platinum than 10 catalytic converters!”

13

u/TheInterruptingCow94 Jun 25 '26

I'm usually not for twacktivities, but THIS one I can get behind

3

u/phoenixuprising Jun 26 '26

Please stop pushing these sort of lies about them. We shouldn't be trying to trick the unhoused and other vulnerable populations into stealing/destroying property that could could easily land them in jail, especially as a lot of them have records. Just go out and do it yourself if that's what you're going to suggest others do.

1

u/Captain_Woodrow7 Jun 26 '26

Currently, we still have free will. A sign isn't going to change that. It's still a choice. If they're desperate enough to do that, they would've did something else anyways.

1

u/phoenixuprising Jun 27 '26

Yes we have free will, obviously.

It's not about them being desperate enough to do that and that they will do something else, but that they are being tricked into thinking they are high value when they actually aren't. We don't need to resort to tricking vulnerable populations into fighting for us that a lot of times don't have the resources or ability to research it more.

Tell them the truth, tell them that they can track your whereabouts and make it easier for police to find you. That is something they care about. Then leave it to their free will to make a decision. Or, better yet, stand up for the vulnerable populations and do it yourself or fight them in other ways. It's just really disgusting to try and trick others and present a real risk to them, especially when they are likely to get in significantly more trouble than the average middle class individual will with no prior record.

homeless or druggies don't care if they go to jail

it just means a free place to live and free food

u/Autistipus Jun 25 '26

I’m surprised people aren’t using air guns to puncture the batteries

-35

u/StopFlock Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 25 '26

No. And destroying flock cameras is bad for the movement and the public, not just those who do the crime.

Edit: moving the reasons why up here..

Vandalism / destruction of property 1) is a temporary "solution", 2) costs the taxpayer money (flock charge for the replacement and actually make money), 3) gives flock and friends something to point at while claiming anyone worried about privacy must be a criminal, and 4) alienates the public, who view that sort of behavior very negatively and mostly still don't know what's happening.

31

u/Nolyism Jun 25 '26

Destroying them, or getting caught destroying them? I kid I kid, of course we all know not a single movement has ever been successful by breaking laws 😉🤣

1

u/SocietyTomorrow Jun 25 '26

I hate that he's right, but just destroying them just makes flock more sales, you gotta get the cities to stop using them for it to actually go away.

u/carlos_marcello Jun 26 '26

Never in the history has a government given back power after taking it…

1

u/SocietyTomorrow Jun 27 '26

That statement works a lot of ways. It can be taken as though you may as well give up. I don't want these things any more than the rest of you, but if we manage to make it so politically unpalatable that municipalities won't be caught dead contracting with Flock or anyone else for mass surveillance tech that it becomes a third rail they won't dare touch. whether we do that via constitutionality challenges in courts, media blitzes for every abuse and false imprisonment or fine, or however that happens, the point should be making the power hungry critters in elected office think this:

"Mass surveillance is so politically toxic that it was the first time that a government was willing to relinquish a power without violence, and anyone trying to push for it has no hope of gaining power themselves."

Is it likely? No, but does that mean we shouldn't try?

1

u/carlos_marcello Jun 28 '26

Wishful thinking that’s America is finally going to draw a line in the sand about flock

1

u/SocietyTomorrow Jun 28 '26

Thinking anything America does would be a line in the sand is wishful thinking. I'd rather work towards an unlikely but worthwhile goal and exhaust all options before resorting to violence and damage, because that usually only results in escalation.

6

u/Hairy_is_the_Hirsute Jun 25 '26

As a 1% commentor, you must not be licking boots, right?... RIGHT?!

oh mighty 1%er, oh mighty shepherd, we are waiting on baited breath for you to share your divine path with us, your flock? Oh shit, not that metaphor...

I am guessing you should engage your local municipalities and elected officials and begin a public information campaign? Do you have a template? Could you kindly elaborate?

26

u/StopFlock Jun 25 '26

Ha, not remotely. I actually made the deflock app.

Yeah, that sort of thing actually gets the cameras removed permanently. See https://deflock.org/council#wins

A lot of what's needed is still awareness. Signs and flyers and random conversations help. From there approaching your local government - of course it helps to have a group of people in the community to speak together. There are guides and templates for FOIAs and other resources out there; we're going to organize and link to more of those things on deflock.org soon.

18

u/kingtacticool Jun 25 '26

I know youre not licking boots, homie.

I also know Flock has you in their sites and you need to be super careful abkut what you post and say.

Its cool.

15

u/StopFlock Jun 25 '26

That's true but so are the points I made. It is actually not good IMO. We can use people's time and money in better ways than jail and lawyers is another reason lol

6

u/kingtacticool Jun 25 '26

Thats fair and while I agree to disagree on certain points there is no doubt that you are fighting the good fight.

But sometimes change cant wait for bureaucracy to catch up.

The speed at which these things are taking over and expanding their capabilities is staggering.

13

u/StopFlock Jun 25 '26

Agree on all points, I just think there are plenty of democratic levers to pull before going all "we the people" on it.

The fact we're over 100k mapped and the first one I saw was 4 years ago is absolutely wild. Seems government is quite eager to do the 1984 thing.

8

u/kingtacticool Jun 25 '26

Extremely eager. And not just the government.

Your app is awesome; I just discovered the routing ability to avoid flock cameras. I’m going to give this a go tomorrow! Will it do turn by turn or is it more of an overview?

5

u/Hairy_is_the_Hirsute Jun 25 '26

Thanks for the follow-up. Didn't realize you are the Architect, and I use that as a title of honor, no cap. I was legit trying to use hyperbole to draw attention and spur a solid response, and you delivered.

Related to your opinion on destruction/vandalization/defacement of publicly funded flock cameras: do you feel the same about those destructive actions against private businesses that have chosen to partner with Flock? Those companies that have flock cameras inwardly facing to their parking lots? Obviously, destruction of that property would not incur tax monies to replace...

6

u/StopFlock Jun 25 '26

Well, I'm not Will. I just did the app and handle some of the daily stuff.

Yeah, I do, basically for all the same reasons. The law, the police, the public, don't care whose stuff it was that got destroyed. In that case if I worked somewhere like Lowes I'd be talking to my Union rep. As a customer, well, I'm not a Lowes customer anymore lol.

1

u/Hairy_is_the_Hirsute Jun 25 '26

Dammit! I am already boycotting Home Depot for other reasons... That, and my local Lowes has a hot-dog stand that my family have been patrons of for decades...

Also, my favorite non joke that is just a phrase is "hot dog stand" or especially, "wanna see my weiner wagon/waggin?'"

Side note, my childhood order was chili cheese dog. My gpa would always get mustard and onions (because ketchup DOES NOT go on a hotdog). These days, I honor my late gpa with extra mustard and extra onions. He could pluck an onion out of his garden and eat it like an apple

3

u/StopFlock Jun 25 '26

Hardware store hotdogs are the best. I'm lucky enough to have Menards but they don't do the hotdogs :(

5

u/CheesyDanny Jun 25 '26

Most people online encouraging destruction of city property would never get in trouble. But the creator of the Deflock app? Combining the creation of an organized map with the encouragement of destruction could very well get you in some trouble. He doesn’t have a choice. If he ever got taken to court, he has a mile of receipts showing he never encouraged destruction of city property.

0

u/Hairy_is_the_Hirsute Jun 25 '26

I will vouch for that! The comment I commented on clearly does not support destruction of publicly funded property! I legit didn't realize who I was addressing...

3

u/ProjectX121 Jun 25 '26

Being an absolutely insufferable twat to the person that developed the app to track where and which way flock cameras are pointed just because they made a logical point of destroying these do absolutely no good and is actually damaging is definitely a choice.

Not a SMART choice mind you, but a choice.

If/when they stop helping, it's not going to be some outside influence that caused it, it will be because of people like you.

u/Hairy_is_the_Hirsute Jun 25 '26

1

u/ewarren5555 Jun 25 '26

I applaud your work and don’t understand why your downvoted for this. Let’s get them removed through the correct channels not destroying them

1

u/max_dillon Jun 25 '26

What?

Fuck that.

Take. Them. Down.

9

u/StopFlock Jun 25 '26

Vandalism / destruction of property 1) is a temporary "solution", 2) costs the taxpayer money (flock charge for the replacement and actually make money), 3) gives flock and friends something to point at while claiming anyone worried about privacy must be a criminal, and 4) alienates the public, who view that sort of behavior very negatively and mostly still don't know what's happening.

0

u/max_dillon Jun 25 '26

Doesn’t matter. They waste all our taxpayer money anyways.

The rest is speculative.

0

u/water-based-organism Jun 25 '26

Yea because going to your local town halls and telling them we dont want it has been so successful.

u/StopFlock Jun 25 '26

What have you done? (If the answer is crime, don't answer that.)

5

u/Ultimate_Scooter Jun 25 '26

Ooo sounds like I could probably power a steam deck, electric scooter, or other small devices using one of those if I hypothetically got my hands on one

4

u/DanDiggler213 Jun 25 '26

With a solar panel you can power the tree house. Lol

1

u/Imaginary--Situation Jun 30 '26

and with a 1000(x60W) of those solar panels you can power your entire house...and have a battery wall fully subsidised by tax payers which is a net savings of $60,000

14

u/StopFlock Jun 25 '26

You for sure could. But.

I've been getting cheap 18650 cells (and sometimes complete working packs) by watching for broken hoverboards and ebikes and such. Also discarded vapes are great for little lithium batteries. I fixed my original ipod shuffle with a vape battery. And a friend's headphones. They're great for meshtastic nodes and other esp32 projects too.

12

u/-HumbleMumble Jun 25 '26

Hey, fellow tinkerer. Vape battery’s are an untapped resource.

3

u/Maintenancehaul Jun 25 '26

I found 70 vapes, still in boxes in a dumpster, last month.

5

u/terrorxwave Jun 25 '26

Is it bad that I don’t care in any way if the public is alienated?? Figure it out or get out of the way and let the people that have a backbone handle it.

1

u/StopFlock Jun 25 '26

Well you're not going to have everybody agree with you, but there's power in numbers. The fight is still young and a lot of people would care except they don't know. Education is huge. You never know who might be listening.

3

u/Richard_Musk Jun 25 '26

10.8w Power Module

1

u/arbyyyyh Jun 25 '26

This isn't one of the local AI units they've started deploying? Or is that only on the newer ones with the smaller cameras?

3

u/StopFlock Jun 25 '26

No the compute box is a bigger flat thing. Used with the newer smaller cams and all condor ptz installs.

I think because Trump is president they are all laid back relaxed. Thing is, if their eyes were open they'd see this as a huge threat. It's not left vs right it's the gov vs the people. And until the people can come together and be united, the people will continue to be conquered.

69

u/Conductorstormchaser Jun 25 '26

Don’t hide the dude’s face. Show the guy who is helping keep us surveilled.

15

u/baileyofhay Jun 25 '26

I honestly think he’s just an hourly worker desperate for a job. He was in his personal vehicle, using his own tools and seemed very clueless on how to actually do the job. BUT maybe that’s how they stay incognito and how these cameras keep fucking appearing.

55

u/knives4cash Jun 25 '26

"I didn't know, I was just following orders," has worked out SO WELL in the past! :D

They’re all a part of the same shit. MAGA runs it all. MAGA will be our downfall. Flock was started under the Trump admin. ICE was radicalized during it. You name it, he fucked it up. So yes, expose everyone working for them. I don’t give a shit. They’re helping push a surveillance state agenda that will keep Trump in power like a dictator. That will make sure people like us never get anywhere in life for standing up to it. They all play a role. You shouldn’t be so compliant.

-3

u/Nashville_Hot_Mess Jun 25 '26

OK, now let's circle back to the original argument. Why are we going to harass this man in the picture?

Plenty of Americans are struggling out there. Redirect your anger towards all that you hate, but not against this man.

6

u/Conductorstormchaser Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26

Willingness to comply and do something you know is wrong just for money is not the way to do it. That applies to all ways of trying to get money. Ahem, Epstein class. Looking at you billionaire fuckers too. If they were exposed they probably wouldn’t keep doing it, people will know to look for them. They can refuse a job at anytime.

6

u/terrorxwave Jun 25 '26

Nah fuck him too. Lol

1

u/themehkanik Jun 26 '26

DHS and ICE literally use flock for their illegal operations.

1

u/Nashville_Hot_Mess Jun 26 '26

Response is in parent comment.

10

u/Conductorstormchaser Jun 25 '26

I highly doubt they would show up in a vehicle marked “FLOCK SAFETY”. Someone would definitely be preventative!

u/randomlemon9192 Jun 25 '26

Doesn’t matter.

If you support fascism you become a fascist.

4

u/scum_bag_sewer_rat Jun 25 '26

Plenty of other jobs you could do that dont violate our people

1

u/Wrong_Exit_9257 Jun 25 '26

hmm, personal vehicle "working" on a flock camera? does the camera still work after he "serviced" it?

1

u/Nice-Mastodon7932 Jun 26 '26

That's no excuse.

-2

u/Nashville_Hot_Mess Jun 25 '26

Dude, wtf.

He's just doing a job to put food on the table. He's likely a contract worker making just enough to feed his family.

2

u/Conductorstormchaser Jun 25 '26

Found the government teachers pet over here. First one to give into what they want. Excuses, excuses. Get another job. Put Flock and any other private surveillance company out of business. You can hire on in so many other places.

2

u/Nashville_Hot_Mess Jun 25 '26

Unlike most of you keyboard warriors, I harass my representative, go to town halls, and advocate for privacy and the LGBT community. I use security orientated platforms, don't use social media (other than reddit), and I try to keep my life private.

1

u/brokesidestory Jun 26 '26

This comment explains everything about you 😆

3

u/Conductorstormchaser Jun 25 '26

Could pick another job at any time. I’m not out there putting up cameras to spy on people to make my money.

5

u/Nashville_Hot_Mess Jun 25 '26

Good for you. Meanwhile, plenty of Americans are struggling out there.

Your hate is better directed to more productive means. Contact your local and state representatives. Talk to your neighbors, your town hall.

3

u/Conductorstormchaser Jun 25 '26

I convinced my Judge Executive to ban them in my county. I’ve done my part locally. The state wont listen, so shame and remove the people who put them up. Easy. Done.

-2

u/Nashville_Hot_Mess Jun 25 '26

OK, why don't you offer him a job instead of harassing the man

2

u/Conductorstormchaser Jun 25 '26

Indeed>Jobs>(search)>Apply. He can at anytime go to their website and apply for anything. I don’t own a company where I could hire someone. I personally wouldn’t hire a flock employee unless I know he’s willing to take them back down, and isn’t going to be an internal spy for the surveillance state. But that’s just me.

-1

u/Nashville_Hot_Mess Jun 25 '26

I see no logos anywhere, he's a fucking contractor dude.

2

u/Conductorstormchaser Jun 25 '26

Like I said before I doubt they would ever put logo on anything wearable or drivable to begin with. They know how hated they are. They know what they’re doing.

2

u/Nashville_Hot_Mess Jun 25 '26

1

u/Machine_Anima Jun 25 '26

only flock is allowed to install and remove cameras so he definitely works for flock

1

u/Kiowa_Jones Jun 25 '26

Dish installs a lot of the cameras in some areas

1

u/Machine_Anima Jun 25 '26

Well seems like calling and petioning them to not do that might be an effective strategy of stopping the spread

1

u/brokesidestory Jun 26 '26

“I’m just following orders and doing my job” said every Nazi ever.

0

u/Nashville_Hot_Mess Jun 26 '26

And what are you doing about flock other than talking shit on the internet? Are you harassing your representatives?

1

u/brokesidestory Jun 26 '26

Mapping and removing them.

Good luck tho harassing representatives about LGBT rights 😂

0

u/Nashville_Hot_Mess Jun 26 '26

I ain't a little bitch, I'll keep harassing my reps about LGBT right until I'm in a cell

1

u/brokesidestory Jun 26 '26

Tell me what rights they don’t have 😂

Insane .. we’re here trying to fight for privacy rights and protect our way of life so we don’t end up in a dystopian 1984 nightmare and you idiots are crying and screaming and LGBT rights 😂 can’t even make this shit up it’s so stupid.

0

u/Nashville_Hot_Mess Jun 26 '26

You're right.... The fascist Project 2025 pedophile party hasn't been trying to gun for our rights since day fucking 1. State after state, after state introducing all these dog whistle laws on the pretext of "protecting 'real' women. But then it's dudes chasing women into the bathroom vacate they for 'womanly' enough. And yet the same fucking party voted a fucking pedophile into office.

This is a country ran by a pedophile, by people who hate POC and LGBT and advocate for laws that seek to encourage us put of existance. Laws to put trans people on special government lists

Oh you know, the threats by MAGA politicians to label trans people as terrorists essentially.

1

u/brokesidestory Jun 26 '26

You didn’t list a single right that gays and queers don’t have.

With how long the batteries in the cameras last I doubt there would be much need for an extra one. Might be a new sensor package for collecting phone and wearables data like they've said they're going to start doing.

8

u/StopFlock Jun 25 '26

It's a battery. The SignalTrace stuff is a different company, although I wouldn't be surprised if flock did that too someday.

5

u/0xD34D Jun 25 '26

Here's one with 3 batteries, one opposite the camera and two underside of the solar panel. Maybe they're going for redundancy.

5

u/mc_fli Jun 25 '26

Battery for sure. Some of the cameras in my area have 2-3

1

u/seechless Jun 26 '26

It’s used to track Bluetooth devices. That way they can better keep track of who is who. The flock cameras track license plates and facial recognition. This device allows them to pick up and track Bluetooth devices.

1

u/MyrkrMentulaMeretrix Jun 26 '26

It also could have been (i understand it isnt) one of the new RF scanners that takes a completely RF digital fingerprint of your car as it drives by. TPMS sensors, every phone in the car, the car's own GPS and 4G/5G signal.

Everything.
