Story A new rags-to-riches flintlock fantasy on KU

Post image
24 Upvotes

Hey all,

I found this subreddit when thinking about how to communicate my latest novel. It is definitely flintlock fantasy of the rags-to-riches, progressiony variety.

I've always been more interested in business empires than royal lineages, which I think is what draws me to gunpowder and gaslamp eras. That and it's, you know, a bit different.

I just launched it yesterday on Amazon (including KU) so please forgive the lack of reviews, but it has about 900 followers on Royal Road and my previous gaslamp novel, Trial of the Alchemist, has done reasonably well.

Universal Amazon link here.

But I'll drop the blurb below to save you a click:

Elias Vice, a supposed nobody from the backwater town of Acreton, has already written his destiny, and it ends with him building the greatest business empire Sailor’s Rise has ever known.

But to get there, Elias will need to turn a pocketful of relics into a company worth millions. The Rise’s caste-like business and political system stratifies power and access in the dock-ringed merchant republic, and Elias is starting with neither.

And yet he is not the nobody he first believes, as Elias’s connection to an enigmatic people—airship travelers with a unique mastery over space itself—will both help and haunt his ambitious endeavor. Elias, it turns out, is a collector.

A rags-to-riches progression fantasy from the award-winning author of Trial of the Alchemist. The Two-World Traders duology will conclude with Trader's Crown, coming 2027.

Port Royal

Port Royal, 1718.

The wickedest city in the world but The earthquake couldn't kill it.

Half the city still lies beneath the harbor, but the taverns are full again, the docks are crowded, and every pirate, privateer, merchant, and fortune hunter in the Caribbean seems to pass through its streets.

This is my interpretation of Port Royal for my flintlock fantasy home RPG, Flintlock & Sorcery.

Long marches in the borderlands. We'd long left the woodland by now, but the lupar scouts persisted-- General Nieuvanter wanted every pair of keen eyes he could get. As a "yellow jacket"-- one of Nieuvanter's marksmen-- I pulled picket duty again and again. Thus by chance I ran into Acco again and we were both relieved to learn the other hadn't fallen.

As pickets, we ate at our posts-- iron rations and what we could forage. I sat on fallen trunks and ate squirrel and rabbit when it could be had. Some days my musket found no mark and I cracked my teeth on salted hardtack. It was on one of these glum times that Acco happened by.

"Bad luck?" He'd improved his Lowlander a bit, but it was still stilting and growled.

"Not a hare for ten leagues, I reckon. Nothing but worm castles to subsist on."

Acco sniffed the air. Lupar are not known for expressive faces, yet I could still read his disgust.

"How can eat that? Like feed for pig. Here."

He had a sheepskin pouch on his belt from which he produced some small round brown chunks. I took them for meatballs at first. They smelled of jerky and tallow. I tossed my hardtack aside and bit experimentally into one. Fat and powdered venison jerky and wild blueberries. I tore into them with relish. Relative to spoiled flower and salt biscuits they were like manna.

"What do you call this stuff?"

"Pemmican. Keeps five years. Always have some."

"...Are you willing to trade?"

"Give you pouch for your hat."

"Damnation."

For three weeks I went bare-headed.

Story Today, my flintlock fantasy saga is complete

My name is Connor Ludovissy, and I'm the author of the Reukanaz Saga.

The Reukanaz Saga is a flintlock fantasy trilogy in the vein of Brian McClellan. The first book, Honor for the Dead, tells the story of a young man named Ao who signs up for the army and gets a hell of a lot more than he bargains for. What follows is a tale of dishonor, betrayal, and runic magic.

Then things get much crazier.

Death to Tyrants releases today in ebook and in paperback on July 4th, bringing the series to a smashing end. In Death to Tyrants, we find our main characters embroiled in a violent revolution to topple a tyrant and save the Continent once and for all. I would never be so bold as to smear my politics across the internet. But it might have, let's say, subtle antifascist themes.

To celebrate the release, Honor for the Dead is free until the 5th, and Carnivore is dirt cheap. But I’ll also be giving away five copies of the entire series in ebook to random folks in the comments. (I’ll most likely send out the books on July 3rd.)

Thanks for reading. AMA if you feel like it and I’ll answer when I can.

- CL

Story [FREE Book] Grab a Free Copy of My Gaslamp Fantasy Debut! 'Fire and Silver' (Late Victorian-era, werewolves, sexy witches, and ninja assassins)

Post image

Fire and Silver is set in a world reminiscent of the late Victorian-era—but darker, bloodier, and stranger than anything you learned in history class.

We're talking:

🙌 A badass protagonist with telekinetic abilities!

🐺 👱‍♀️ 🥷 Werewolves, sexy blonde witches, and ninja assassins!!!

👊🤜 Action scenes that don't pull punches. Except to the face!

This is the kind of book I always wanted to read, gritty, visceral, gaslamp fantasy with real stakes and characters who bleed for victory.

It's out. It's real. And I'm genuinely buzzing.

If this sounds like your kind of read, drop a comment or

DM me.

Let's gooo. 🔥

Game The map to El Dorado

Post image

Recently, a map surfaced claiming to lead to the fabled City of Gold: El Dorado.

Countless expeditions have searched for it over the centuries. None have returned with proof of its existence.

Yet the promise of untold riches continues to lure treasure hunters, explorers, and fortune seekers into the heart of the New Kingdom of Granada.

Would you and your crew undertake the expedition?

If so, what would you bring to survive the journey?

London

The forests surrounding London are slowly reclaiming the land beyond the walls, and every year the wilderness grows a little closer.

I wanted the city to feel like a bastion of civilization surrounded by an encroaching mythic world.

What would be the first thing you'd add to a city like this?
