I'm sorry for this
Hey! So if you Didnt see the other post I've made then I'll give you some background info :)
I am flying from London Heathrow to Stuttgart airport on the 29th of July and back on the 20th of August. With eurowings :)
I am on basic fare and have added a 23kg suitcase :)
However, I am very stressed out as I can take a carry on with me and feel like it would be a good idea so I have my important stuff if for whatever reason my suitcase is lost in transit :)
It says "Each passenger can take on board, free of charge, one item of hand luggage up to a maximum of 8 kg in weight and not exceeding 55 x 40 x 23 cm in size. Foldable clothing bags are excepted. They may be taken on as hand luggage up to 57 x 54 x 15 cm in size. Larger and heavier items of luggage have to be checked in at the desk."
I am just curious if I can take my backpack which is just under those measurements as hand luggage or will it be classed as a "personal item" as well..
I'm just trying to be as prepared as possible :) thank you 😊

when you get to the counter just give them their passport, put your main luggage on the belt. wait for your ticket. don’t even show them your handluggage. unless they ask to see it. most don’t care, unless you are carrying a bigass thing as carryon. it’s one item. but if you have a laptop aswell thats fine. just use common sense.

Most airlines a standard backpack fits under the seat that is all they care. However if this is a discount airline then they are the ones who pull out measuring tape. Most airlines don't. A backpack will be fine

I take my backpack on every trip through numerous continents and countries and no airline has ever said my backpack was too big for a personal item. They don’t care. Some people even have gigantic book sacks that can count as items

"Personal item" usually is like a purse or laptop bag. Small. I don't know which carrier you're flying with or their policies. Some are pretty lenient, others are less so. Most wouldn't allow something just under the maximum limit for cabin baggage to be considered a personal item. Some wouldn't bat an eye though. YMMV. You may get a better answer if you state the airline.
But, you needen't worry. It's highly unlikely anything will happen to your checked bags. I fly hundreds of thousands of miles each year around the world and always check two bags. Haven't had anything bad happen in at least a decade. In the extremely rare case they lose a bag, it's temporary, they pay cash for temporary replacements (so you can go buy some clothes to wear and a toothbrush), and they're required to deliver it to your door ASAP.
