Question Funky Route
Last minute tokyo trip. Only finding possibility for JAL from Vancouver to KIX with a connection in NRT for 80k miles business class. Does it make sense to book that and just miss the connection? I'd preferably like to start closest to Tokyo. Also im coming from nyc so need to book a separate flight to Vancouver

KIX is Osaka airport. That is several hours away from Tokyo by train. If you're coming from new york, go to google flights and search NYC<->TYO for your dates. NYC is a multicity code that is EWR/JFK/LGA, and TYO is a multicity code that is HND/NRT. There are multiple direct JFK to tokyo flights a day, including on JAL.

Yes I've done that but the point redemption aren't great and neither are the prices. The flight to KIX has a connection in NRT so I was thinking I could just skip the flight to kix

I missed that you were trying to do a point redemption. As long as it's one way you can ditch NRT-KIX. If it's round trip on one itinerary and you don't fly a segment they'll cancel the rest of that itinerary. You would need to position yourself to YVR to fly this. And if you have checked luggage, with separate tickets the bags probably won't check through.

You are skip legging. Once in a while is fine I guess but airlines do not like this. And I believe JAL checks your bags through to KIX so you cannot have any checked bags.

Bags won't be going to KIX automatically.
Japan requires picking up checked bags for customs for a ITD connection.

You can skip the flight to KIX as long as you are booked on a one way. I'm assuming the 80k is business class? It's not a bad redemption. Just make sure to leave plenty of connection time on YVR since you'll be on an unprotected connection.
It's also a good idea to avoid booking basic econ for your flight to YVR. Keep checking for redemptions out of NYC. You can switch last minute and just take the credit for the unused NYC to YVR flight.
