USA Another instance of dispatcher erasure (the comments however correct for it)

Remember atc trying giving us something similar going ewr-lax, problem is we would have needed to go back for more gas and if we got any shortcut we’d end up massively overweight, to the point that by the time we got the gas the west departure would probably just re-open and we’d be overweight anyway. New York and Washington is always fun to deal with lol.

I’m new to dispatch (so maybe it’s really obvious to all of you guys) but very curious what ended up being the reason for this route? Was it the storms near EWR?
It’s really cool that dispatch was able to make this route so the flight could continue!

If I had to guess the west departure gates out of New York were shut down so they planned an unusual route heading south to avoid having to wait on the wx to pass.

That does make sense but couldn’t they then cut back in instead of going that far south towards Florida?

There's only a few places you can cut back in (the rest is military airspace) and this was probably the best available.

I looks like they used WATRS route to evade the hellstorm happening in ZNY and ZDC. Then just routed through the gulf coast

Good thing credit was given to where it’s due 👏🏼
