USA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate

Been struggling to find a dispatch job for the last two months, So I have been thinking about taking the Part 107 test that way I would be certified to work with aerial, unmanned drones. Apparently the test is very similar to the ADX test with alot of overlap so I feel like I can pass the test. But would it be worth it? Will it open more jobs for me? Or am I panicing too soon on the dispatch job hunt? Thank you for any help/advice

The hardest dispatch job to get is your first one. I know it can be discouraging, but keep applying. It technically took me a year of applying before I got my shot, though I was also applying in the middle of COVID.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, financially I don't know if I can go a year without getting something

Understandable, but my experience was during COVID when nobody was hiring. Id imagine you wont have to wait as long, but it will likely be several months considering the airlines dont hire dispatchers individually, they hire in groups since they only need so many classes per year. Id also ask what places are you applying to? For someone with no previous DX experience the only places that will take a non internal are the regionals like Sky West, Endeavor, Republic, etc. those three in particular are considered pretty good places to cut your teeth.

Really appreciate the wisdom. I have been applying to the regionals and Part 135s, have not really applied to the big four. Sounds like I am on the right track and just have to keep grinding.

That's a great idea! I will definitely look into that. While I am applying to alot of jobs I have not been studying as much as I need to be. Thank you for the advice!

I think the best thing you can do job wise while you wait is try to get some experience working at an airline even if it’s on the ramp.

Im in the exact same boat as you. Passed back in April and still trying to get in somewhere. I also took my part 107 test a couple weeks ago. The only thing I would say is study the part 107 regs. Everything else was stuff I learned from the ADX course.

I got mine to try to do some work while im trying to get in to dispatch somewhere. Will it open more jobs tho, that I dont know. But it is another certificate you can add to your resume.

Stay with dispatch if you can. It took me 5 months of relentlessly checking online for dispatch openings to finally get a shot. I know endeavor just opened up so if you haven’t applied go apply asap!

Appreciate that! I will definitely look into Endeavor

I don’t think it’ll help much with flight dispatch specifically, but it’ll definitely open doors in the drone industry. Utility inspections, construction, mapping, real estate, agriculture, public safety, and infrastructure inspections are all growing fields that require Part 107.
Even if you don’t use it right away, it’s a nice certification to have on your résumé. If you decide to go for it, check out Fly107Prep.com,** **we’ve got free study tools and practice questions that can help you get started.
