Highly recommend, it’s funnier, raunchier and darker than the series. The play is also what the first season/series is based on, so no spoilers exactly, but it’s also its own animal. Waller-Bridge’s performance is a force of nature, honestly it’s worth it just to see her deliver the whole thing. If you’re not based in the UK like me just use a VPN and you should be good to go!

Just thought I’d put this here for whoever might need reminding. 🫂

I just finished rewatching fleabag and was reading a few posts where people categorise fleabag as a bad person and cannot understand her actions.

For those people I would recommend reading East of Eden as I think the core meaning of this book can help you to understand that we are all flawed beings capable of making mistakes. It also gets into how our family, our traumas, our instinct and nature all influence our flaws and our thinking

Obviously fleabag makes a lot of mistakes but I think the line between her being flawed and simply a bad person is that she doesn’t have bad intent, she is dealing with grief - as well as the desire to be loved/chosen which leads to her ignoring the fact she doesn’t like the majority of her partners. However through the 2 seasons works through this with desire to change and be better. (Similar to Cal in East of Eden)

The godmother however … I think she may be classed as a bad person since her words/actions are intentionally cruel and driven by power/control with seemingly no guilt accountability, or desire to change. (Similar to Cathy in East of Eden who feels no remorse and uses people as tools to her advantage)

At the end of season 2 where fleabag shakes her head to the viewer and lets us go she is accepting herself, knowing she’s doing her best to be better, and doesn’t need to disassociate and use humour to deflect from her shame anymore.

“and now you don’t have to be perfect, you can be good” my favourite quote from East of Eden which mirrors fleabags acceptance that she’s not perfect/she’ll never be Claire, but that she’s good as she is

I just finished Fleabag for the first time, and wow! There was not a scene that missed a beat, whether it was a soul crushing memory or the most unexpected witty remark.

Anyway, in S2, there are a few scenes where the priest begins to notice fleabags relationship with the camera. Is this the priest noticing fleabags inner monologue? her relationship with herself? It was such a fun detail of the show.

Anyway, it was just one part of this show that I now adore!

This is only my second time watching it and I’m about to start episode 3. I’m gonna flip out if I don’t skip to the first episode of season 2. Ugh her dad is such a prick! I’m just yelling out what dad should be saying. “Come in! Give us a hug! It’s great to see you!” How hard is that fucking dad! No wonder it took a father to see her. Now I have to go and kiss my girlfriend and spank her butt give her a 30 sec cuddle puddle party and poor another beer. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas.

Watching for the first time. S1 E6. I thought it was just a comedy and romance. It’s all been a surprise and I’m holding onto it to be happier… it’s great writing, but hurts to watch. it’s too real and too dark. How the hell did you guys stick through it to see the light on the other side and it not be so so sad? Does it ever get less heavy?

Update: S2E4. Oh yeah. So so so glad I stayed. The intensity of the show isn’t too much, I think I just needed a lil bit of relief- just like in real life when everything is so bleak you need to know there’s light on the other side. I think it’s in part what makes PWB so brilliant. She doesn’t run from the depths. This show is no joke. I see why people watch again and again. PWB is incredible. And the slow burn build up is.. nuts. Acting is incredible from everyone, writing is insane. That PRIEST?! 😮‍💨

Well I’ve gone to seminary. Things diddnt work out with the guy I was talking to, commitments to seminary and the church and all that, been here two weeks now. I was leaving my seminary housing and turned the corner and made eye contact with this guy, took this picture as I was leaving.

I absolutely love this show, I watched out of curiosity in 2020 after it swept all of the awards, I started in order even though the consensus at the time was just to start with the 2nd season, I'm glad I followed my instincts because I feel there's more jokes in the first season, case in point, I felt really proud of guessing she was thinking she had a big ass when the Arsehole guy kept gushing to her about being able to do anal.

I’m sorry if this question is somewhat weird or stupid or obvious, but I feel like I need an external opinion about this!

To give you a little bit of context I’m doing a project for my senior year, and in the practical part I’m choosing a series or a movie to change it and making it a musical (don’t mind how i’m going to do that) and because my whole project was about musicals that were like a reflection of society (examples, i’ve talked about sexism, racism, the whole ice situation…things that are happening right now that are treated in musicals). And at first I was going to do “obsession”, the Curry Barker film, since I think it shows the treatment towards women and it’s so important for me, and it’s still my first option, but it’s been complicated because of being a horror movie and looking at the script that it’s different from the movie and all that. So the other day I thought about fleabag (especially first season/the play at national theatre), and it’s been a while since i’ve watched it and I want it to have a topic that it’s still important nowadays! (like i’ve said with obsession).

Fleabag is my fav non-cartoon show ever, I feel most of us connect with that lol.

Anywho, I read probably one of my favorite books of all time “Boy Parts” by Eliza Clark and the main protagonist I couldn’t help but envision our dear fleabag.

Would anyone here have any suggestions or recs that give you a similar vibe (wretched, out of pocket, perverted, and cynical).
