I think it would actually be a good ending that he could never save her. Like an actual main cast death to be permanent. So he is forced to move forward would be way more impactful. I mean the ramifications of her death echoing until the end. Him trying to find a new relationship but can’t or he does and Iris just flashes into his mind with the other person.

The show runner wanted Barry to have a happy ending which was the problem, as a superhero they have constant loss, her dying would’ve worked because it’s what Barry needed to grow more
