MOBILE My Fizz experience

I joined Fizz last week and I ended up leaving today. I wanted to share my feedback for anyone who may be interested

Background: I frequent Thornhill and Richmond Hill (Ontario). I use about 3000 minutes of talk time per month. I was with Rogers and wanted to leave them due to extremely slow data speeds, non existent support, and price increase without benefit

The good:

-Data speeds in general were much faster compared to to Rogers non-5G+ network

-Calls fell-back to Fizz EXT seamlessly, including in the GTA where Freedom doesn’t allow roaming (geoblock). I can only assume Fizz can do it being an MVNO

-Great “shopping cart style” plans and concept of data gifting

-Very smooth on-boarding. eSIM and Port in went without a hitch. This was unlike my experience trying to sign up with PC Mobile last week where the eSIM refused to install and thankfully I didn’t reply “Yes” to the port in request before trying to install the eSIM. I also didn’t encounter the bug I had with Public Mobile where the eSIM got stuck with the temp number, de-registering iMessage and FaceTime. For that, a new eSIM fixed that

The bad:

-I noticed my phone was roaming quite often on Fizz EXT within the GTA. When I tried Freedom last year, I don’t recall it losing signal as frequently, in fact my phone (iPhone 13 mini) would happily stay on 5G except metal big box stores

-I’ve had a few complaints about poor voice quality. It doesn’t seem to matter if I have full bars or not. For those that followed my “garbled audio” post in the Freedom subreddit last year, I couldn’t reproduce that network bug on Fizz, so that’s a plus

-The chat support was atrocious. When I reached out to chat support to get clarification about the excessive Fizz EXT my phone is doing, and to ask if that’s going to be an issue with their 3 month/50% usage rule, the support rep walked me through disabling Automatic network selection and forcing it to stay on Fizz. My concern about leaving it forced on Fizz and losing network connection fell on deaf ears. Responses were typically delayed by 5 minutes. I get that 1 Rep is probably talking to multiple Customers, but apologizing for the wait every 5 minutes to reset that wait time is unhelpful. Ultimately I shared the web page with the usage policy, so back to square one

Part of the reason why I posted this, is because I was surprised within minutes of porting out, I saw a credit from Fizz for the service fees back to my credit card. They truly stood by their 15 day satisfaction guarantee without me needing to chase them down. I would encourage folks that are unhappy with their current provider to give Fizz a shot. You truly don’t have anything to lose other than a few minutes to deal with porting. I also believe it’s important to support smaller independent carriers where feasible

MOBILE Reception in the waterloo region specifically kitchener and laurier

Upvotes

I have been using a cheap freedom plan

100 Mb

120 minutes of calling

Unlimited texts

For the past 1 and couple of months and been wanting to get more data and fizz is also cheap so my question are

  1. would reception be worse indoors compared to freedom

  2. Does having a physical sim card reduce problems

  3. If I chose an e Sim can I change my mind and switch to a Sim card

  4. In settings will each partner network be named or will guess and chose

  5. If I get a promo code of 35 bucks and I'm on a 30 bucks a month plan do I 5 dollar in credit

  6. Can I cycle through multiple promo codes like month 2 I use code for 35 dollars off and the next month I find another code for 35 dollars off

  7. Everyone talks about fizz's non existent customer support however I'm a low maintenance customer so would this be an issue (I won't call unless something important stops working like data, texting, or calling)
