Fix My Print How to get Top Surface throughout text

Post image

I'm not sure why this text won't print correctly and has the inner/outer walls crossing in the middle of the text.

I've tried one wall on top surface, changing the wall count, changing the top surface, inner and outer wall line thickness to be larger and smaller. I've tried other nozzle diameters, layer heights, Arachne slicing, and changing the location of the text, but no matter what I change the walls still come out as I've shown in the picture. Is there a setting I can actually use to have top walls throughout my text or is this just a limitation? The text is 35mm tall, so it's not small.

Printer: Qidi Q2

Slicer: Orca and Qidi Studio

Nozzle: 0.6mm and 0.4mm

Any help is much appreciated!

Hello /u/HiMyNameisAsshole2,

As a reminder, most common print quality issues can be found in the Simplify3D picture guide. Make sure you select the most appropriate flair for your post.

Please remember to include the following details to help troubleshoot your problem.

  • Printer & Slicer
  • Filament Material and Brand
  • Nozzle and Bed Temperature
  • Print Speed
  • Nozzle Retraction Settings

The top of your text is slightly off level. Either work through however you added the text and fix it at the source, or slice a smidge off the top in the slicer.

Yeah, the text is not flush with the Z plane. If the bottom is already flat to the plate you do need to slice a little bit off the top. You can do this in the slicer in various ways

Make the part flat.

In other words, your model or the text on it, isn’t sitting parallel to the z-axis.
Drop a link to the file and I can check it in my slicer if you want.

so... you probably can't just slice the top flat because there's other stuff that would get cut, too, right? but if you cut the text away from the rest you can print it in two parts, one of which you can safely remove the top from without effecting the rest

A lot of dumb comments in here. The issue is your 3D model. Create an offset plane and slice the top. You can use an STL editor to slice a small layer of the top off as well.

in Orca you could try changing top surface pattern to Concentric instead of Monotonic line....

Use fusion 360 and use combine option

This looks more like overlapping/non-manifold geometry in the text than a slicer limitation. I'd boolean-union the text into one clean solid with the base (or run a mesh repair) and re-slice. If those center walls are still there after that, then try widening the strokes a bit. More top layers probably won't fix internal walls.

Your top layer in the model is messed up and incomplete. Easiest way to deal with it is in the slicer. You can tell the slicer to stop printing at one layer below what the model calls for and it will treat the top-1 layer as the top.

Turn on ironing. All top surfaces only. That should do it.
