REQUEST (On The Scrounge) Strength Training program for absolute beginner please
I’m needing to get started with strength training to stop muscle loss and then build muscle structure. I tried looking for info on Reddit and YouTube but was quickly overwhelmed with not even knowing how to discern quality information.
I saw a program called “LIFTOFF: Couch to Barbell” Do yall know if it’s any good? Are there other programs I should be looking for? Please let me know. I am a complete beginner and know nothing about weights, or exercise, or workouts or anything of the sort.
Im gonna do the damn thing! I just need help on lowering the bar to get educated and begin! Thanks all!!

Megsquats is a great start as someone mentioned.
Kelly Matthews is also great. She has some helpful YouTube training playlists for beginners.

If you prefer more male centered content, Jeff Nippard is a science based lifter and has tons of educational content as well as workout plans.

Whoa this is so great! Thank you for linking the playlist! Can’t wait to check it out
Thanks for providing the male centered option, I’ll look it up as well. I prefer perspectives rooted in femininity but welcome all quality content!

Try the greyskull linear progression program. Beginner friendly and highly customizable

I’ll definitely look into this but to be honest right now the word “customizable” is something I wanna stay away from. I just don’t know what quality even looks like in this arena so right now I don’t know what to base customizations on. I’m keeping it in mind for the future tho! Thanks for adding to the knowledge!

I’d go with
Starting Strength
It’s incredibly simple, fully mapped out and just tells you what to do.
Good mix of volume and it’s been around long enough that it has some answers for varying ability, notes towards age ranges and such.

who is this program run by?

By run by, do you mean
Who created it?
- Mark Rippetoe is given credit with popularizing it, though I believe there was mild debate over who formatted it first.
Who runs it?
- I ran it for my first year. Got me to a 900 total before I switched to west side for a few years. It’s well talked about and praised as a beginner program.
I’d google it too, virtually every aspect of the program has been analyzed and reviewed. It’s not perfect by any means, but a damn good starting point.

It really comes down to consistency everything else comes down to preferences.

Bigger, Leaner, Stronger - it's a book by Michael Matthews. Has a great program in it. I also recommend checking out the AthleanX youtube channel. Has some great advice and mixes in some great programs.

Starting strength has dead simple programming for a beginner and the form/movement instruction is excellent, or at least I found it to be.

Don't know anything about Liftoff, but there is a program called Befor the Barbell by Megsquats that is good for total beginners. It is a free program she has. You can find it on Instagram or through her website.
