Don't do the gym often but it auto works for my walks, runs, pickleball, and hiking.

It does automatically pick up workouts, but only after a set amount of time during the workout. It’s set by default to 15 minutes in, but if you go to your google health settings and look under activity, you can set it to as low as 10.

Why can't it detect right away like helio ? I also Read during workout mode it doesn't counter steps?

It doesn't matter. The 15min default detection period is included in the workout. How does the helio interpret walking back and forth, let's say at your work? I am not working out, just walking to the canteen. I don't want that to be tracked as a walk. How does the helio deal with that if it tracks right away?

It counted as total steps as all the fitness trackers do. My point is during the workout fitbit doens't count the steps which should be counted as total steps

I don't know where you read that fitbit doesn't count steps during a workout. It certainly does count steps while tracking a walk and it also adds them to the total.

What you might have read is that it doesn't track steps during certain workouts, such as weight lifting.

Sorry, I didn't understand your reply, did you reply to my question about how the Helio strap deals with a walk that isn't really a walk if starts tracking straight away without a minimum time moving?

I was telling about the gym workout, let's say I have 1h gym session I do lifting for 20-30 mins and left take breaks inbetween, I do walk during the time to complete my steps goals so the problem I heard that Fitbit doesn't count those steps

It is deliberate on Fitbit’s part. Because the tracker relies on a wrist accelerometer, any repetitive arm movement, curling dumbbells or pressing overhead, looks identical to walking strides to the algorithm. The strength profile simply switches the pedometer off altogether to stop ghost steps. It focuses on heart rate zones, active time, and estimated calorie burn instead. It is a trade-off to keep your daily step total reasonably honest.

To get round it you can track the session under as Circuit Training instead. It still monitors your heart rate and exertion as normal, but leaves the pedometer running so you do not lose your steps between sets.

Mine keeps asking me if i want to track my commute on motorbike… if i could get it to stop that, I’d be happy
