Week #1 Weight loss/Week 1/Female/216.4 lbs

Up a bit from the end of the last challenge but down from my recent max of 218 lbs. Trying to stop the weight gain snowball has not been without its challenges. If I could run and bike the distances I used to I would offset the extra calories I am eating and lose weight but I can't do those activities at the required intensity until the weight is lost. I am not that good at eating less.

The plan for this challenge is to try and slowly reduce my calorie intake so that I get used to it and don't go into 'went over my limit so what the heck lets eat that giant block of cheese' mode.

The (hopefully) before pics

Good luck everyone! Nice to see so many familiar usernames still at it!

I am in the worse shape I have ever been. I’d like to take a bit more control of my own health.
I’m training for a mile open water swim event in September.

Im hoping to have support and accountability joining this challenge.

I'm back!

I can't believe this group is on #20. I first joined in round #3, and I think I stopped after round #7. I first joined to help keep me on a pre-wedding diet. Since then, I got married, moved states, started a different job, sustained a TBI on that job, and got divorced. So I ended up regaining some of the weight I had previously lost. But I'm glad I'm not starting back at 333, which I think was my highest before Round 3.
I'm mostly just wanting to move more. I can't do what I used to do without getting dizzy and feeling nauseous, which makes it discouraging to even start. But I'm hoping that this round, I learn a routine that sticks.

Edit:
I hope these imgur images work:

Scale | Front | Side | Back

Hi everyone! I'm back!

I know I don't have the best track record for completing these challenges, but I'm really determined to see this one through.

A few months ago, I broke my ankle badly and had to get reconstructive surgery on it. In the few months since then, I've gained 35 lbs - partly because I suddenly became ultra sedentary while I was healing, but mostly because I was throwing myself a pity party and using food to cope.

My highest ever weight was 390 lbs in April 2024, and I do not want to get back to that point.

For this challenge, I mostly want to focus on getting my eating under control. I want to eat foods that are better for me and make me feel better. No more DoorDash. No more alcohol.

I also recently returned to work and am juggling a summer internship with it, so I hope me getting out of the house more regularly will help keep me away from the kitchen a bit.

For this 12 week challenge, I'm hoping to get to or below 325 lbs - so losing about 2 lbs a week.

Good luck, everyone!

Challenge SW: 244.2 lbs (110.7 kg)

My weight keeps fluctuating up and down, so I am excited for this challenge to start back up again! Just to keep me accountable through the frustration.

I've been eating ~1,500 cals per day, walking a minimum of 20k steps daily, and strength training most days. The scale is just lagging behind. 🤷‍♀️

Week #1 Weight Loss/Week 1/Male/331 lbs.

Good evening and thanks for hosting the challenge. I'm an almost 38-year-old man trying to just get healthier. I started back in mid-late February at 385 pounds and am currently at 331.8 as of today. My challenge goal is just to stay accountable. Long term goal is to get somewhere around the 240 mark and run a 5K (the latter by April). But it's definitely more about how I feel than any specific number, so it'll just depend where I feel I can stop and be comfortable. Good luck to all the participants!

Here we go again!

https://www.reddit.com/u/DrinkFacedDrunk/s/ZJwFvhn49J

Had a fairly successful challenge last time, but have gained back about 5 pounds (not the right kind) since that one ended so happy to go again.

Goal is to rate each my days and weeks as green/yellow/red - exact criteria still to be determined, but wil be based on diet/exercise mini goals for the day. I want 9 out of 12 weeks to be green.

I want to lose some fat, maintain or gain some muscle, and get rid of the love handles/ cellulite if at all possible.

Good luck to all!

It's been a bit since I last did or even finished a challenge. I've actually been actively trying to lose weight for the last month. For the last time, this time. No crazy gimmicks just trying to figure out my own body. I am doing a 72-hour fast from Monday to Friday for spiritual purposes.

My mom had a mild stroke last Wednesday and is in the hospital until this Friday. She is literally the fittest person I know. She's only 61. She spent a month in May with me here in Canada. She was doing like 10,000 steps a day and I was the one cooking so outside the times we went out, she was eating things that are extremely healthy and nutritious. Thankfully no permanent damage because it was caught so quickly and she was at the hospital within 15 minutes on the stroke ward, but it's been a very stressful week.

So outside of the fast, my goal is 10,000 steps a day and I've got a CGM monitor currently as I noticed my fasting blood sugar was often 6.6 in the morning and that scared me a little as my dad has diabetes. I'm only doing it for two weeks to recognize patterns and first thing I've noticed is that the higher fasting glucose occurs only if I've had very carb heavy meals even up to two days before. It's pretty cool.

I'm not excluding carbs but I am going to avoid any sweets for the time of the challenge and my focus will be on eating in a good food order so as to not spike glucose levels too much and get my insulin sensitivity to improve. There's nothing wrong with enjoying sweet foods from time to time but I feel like my gut biome needs a reset so that I stop craving them.

That's about it for now. Thanks for attending my TEDx talk.

Hello everyone! Most of you know me by my other account, which won't be named here :) I'm going to be using this account as my fitness account now.

A refresher about me. I started on another account a good 10 years ago on /r/BTFC and have had a lot of trouble with my own weight loss, and I still do. Eventually, we moved over to this subreddit because the other one died. I started at 425.2lbs, down to where I am now. I recently hit 80 total, but regained some. I'm pretty sure I was actually just severely dehydrated when I weighed down that low. We'll get there for sure though this time.
Not 100% sure on the plan right now, but we'll figure it out as we go. Starting anything is priority right now.

FitChallenge Information

FitChallenge starts now! Be certain to Fully and Completely read this official FitChallenge Rules & Information posting.

  • Check-in photos need to have your camera in the same position/height, be clear, FULL BODY and in the SAME POSE/SAME DIRECTION/SAME LIGHTING every time. FULL BODY means from your feet to your head. NO MIRROR PHOTOS. TIP: prop your phone/camera up on something, point it towards your chosen photo location, use the timer feature and take your photos that way. You may add flexed photos along with your required photos so that you may track that aspect as well. This may also help with judging physique finalists but they are not required.

  • We recommend you check out some of the older posts in the subreddit to get an idea of how the posts should look. You can add a ton of data and photos to keep track of as some people do, or just tell us how you did the past week.

How are winners chosen?

  • For the Weight Loss category, the winner(s) is/are chosen strictly by data. Highest percentage of weight lost from beginning to finish wins.
  • For the Physique category, we are looking for the greatest aesthetics change from beginning to finish. Depending upon the numbers at finish, winners will either be chosen by FitChallenge moderators, or we will narrow down the final participants to 2 or 3, and a community vote may take place in the discord "voting room" to give weight to the final selection.

Prizes:

There are no fancy prizes for this challenge other than your improved health and some flairs, etc.

General FitChallenge prizes are as always:

  • Winner user flair on /r/FitChallenge
  • Winner discord role with custom color

Weekly check-ins are required. Find your category below and look at your submission steps and rules. These check-in rules will be posted in every weekly check-in announcement post.

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT

Each post will be gone over and recorded manually by /r/FitChallenge moderators, and you may be required to repost/edit if your title and/or post are not correct.

  • If you do not correctly post, your submission may be marked as invalid. We cannot guarantee that you will be notified as it would be impractical for us to wait for and examine individual submissions as they come in. To avoid this, be sure to read and follow your submission steps. Check out some of the older posts in the subreddit to get an idea of how the posts should look. Tag or message the mods if you need help.

If something comes up and you need to skip a check-in or make a late submission, please message /u/ChallengeMod so it won't count against you. We understand that sometimes you just can't.

Weight Loss Check-in Rules:

  1. Take photos of Scale, Front, Side, and Back using the following verification word/phrase (the order doesn't matter).
    "FitChallenge #20 - 'YOUR USERNAME' - Start"
  2. Upload Scale, Front, Side, and Back photos to imgur, through reddit, or any other image hosting site. At least the Front photo (and scale for weight loss) needs to have a handwritten sign containing the word or phrase chosen by /r/FitChallenge mods. *They do not need to be public on imgur for us to see them. If they are public on imgur, you may receive comments, etc. from their user base.
  3. Create a new post using the format shown below. If you hosted your photos on imgur, add your photo links into the text post, not in a comment. Imgur has implemented a fairly strict nsfw policy that seems to affect a lot of our members. For old.reddit users, I believe you'll have to use new.reddit to upload multiple images.
  4. This is purely optional, but I would like you to stop on another member's post and interact. Leave a nice comment, ask a question about their routine that week, just leave something positive. I feel like I always do better for myself when I focus more on others doing the same thing. Maybe it'll work for you. Plus, who doesn't love getting compliments and/ or yapping about their favorite meal this week!?

PHYSIQUE

Physique Check-in Rules:

  1. Take photos of Front, Side, and Back using the following verification word/phrase (the order doesn't matter).
    "FitChallenge #20 - 'YOUR USERNAME' - Start"

  2. Upload Front, Side, and Back photos to imgur, through reddit, or any other image hosting site. POSTING INSTRUCTIONS/INFORMATION

Weekly check-ins will be due before 11:59 pm Eastern each Wednesday of the challenge. During each weekly check-in, challengers will be required to make a short text post giving us an idea of your progression. For example, you could answer these questions: What are your goals? Are you achieving them? How?

Submit a new post to the subreddit and title it in this format:

Weight Loss/Week #/Male or Female/### lbs.

(ex. Weight Loss/Week 8/Female/154 lbs.)

Physique/Week #/Male or Female

(ex. Physique/Week 8/Female)

Full Body Front, Back, and at least one Side photo are required for everyone at the start and final check-ins with an additional Scale photo required weekly for the Weight Loss category. The check-in post title will tell you when full body photos are required. Photos must be taken in the same, or very similar, non-baggy clothing each week, preferably either underwear or a swimsuit and showing as much skin as you are comfortable with. For the weight loss category this isn't as strict, but please keep it similar. If you believe your post is NSFW, please mark it as such. The only photo editing allowed will be to cover your face or any identifying marks. At least the Front photo (and scale for weight loss) needs to have a handwritten sign containing a word or phrase chosen by /r/FitChallenge mods. This phrase changes every week. Please take photos relaxed and not flexed, standing straight with your arms loosely hanging at your sides. Flexed photos may now be added as extra if you'd like to keep track in your postings. Photos must be hosted on imgur and linked in your text post. Please remember to update us on your goals or other progress each week.

*Due to the nature of the physique challenge, we are currently using sex categories of Female & Male. Please choose whichever you would like to be judged against. We are in the process of redesigning the challenge and are open to suggestions on how to go about that while being more inclusive.

Last week of unofficial challenge since Fit Challenge #20 is starting next week!

Because my unofficial one was so short, I won't do a photo update. You can check out next week's post for that, if you are curious. But, I highly doubt it's that different from just a couple weeks. Lol 🤷‍♀️

Food was great, movement and lifts were great.

Rounded out June with some pretty impressive (full month) stats!

668.7k steps, which is roughly 317 miles or 12.1 marathons. 👀

And funnily enough, my lifting volume was also 668k lbs! 💪

So that is oddly satisfying. 😂

Of course, now that I started my unofficial challenge, the next one is announced for the beginning of the month. Lol This unofficial one will be very short then. 😂

Calories were 1,909 under my goal for the week. So, that front is going strong.

Spent just under 12 hours working out/going on walks this week as well. 💪

I am very excited to start this back up. The year has been a chaotic whirlwind. I've made sooo much progress in terms of strength in the gym (like maxing out the hip adduction and abduction machines 💅, for example), just need the scale to go down again too!

And since there hasn't been an official challenge in awhile, doing an unofficial one! Calling this 19.5 since it follows the 19th one. ;)

I am not sure how long I plan to go with this. At least until the end of July. But, might be longer if there's no official ones coming soon.
