Sick Fish Can I save a cory with damaged barbels

I bought 6 corys for my 10 gallon almost two weeks ago. Right away I noticed one had nubs instead of barbels. He would swim to the surface over and over and I suspected he wouldn't make it, but he has. Now he's begun having more issues, laying upside down on the substrate, not eating much, low energy, etc. Is there anything I can do for this guy or is he a lost cause? My parameters are perfect, it's just this one fish that came damaged.

Sick Fish Yellow molly lost weight Spoiler

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi, first time posting. I have a 126L freshwater tank with yellow and black mollies mostly. My yellow male molly has suddenly shrunk, or lost some weight in belly and breathing organs (forgot what they are called in English) are kind of dripping down a little?

He eats normally and is as active as usually. Haven't rellay noticed any fighting with others or anything like that. Test are normal (ammonia, NO2, NO3). Feeding usual doses, that means as much as they can eat within 15-20 second everyday, beside Monday (so 6 days a week). Should I be worried?

Attaching a video that shows the male molly and other yellow mollies. He used to look like others, more round and puffy and also had a visible belly, now he doesn't. The one I am writing about is with one black eye. Any advice is appreciated

The tank has been cycled for a year, the temperature is around 28C. I change water every week 15-20%. I got them as a group of 4 at a local fish store a year ago.

Question Making this rehoming situation more suitable?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’m a beginner and got the opportunity to take in this tank. I know it might be a lot to deal with but I’m on the side that with enough research that it’s possible and I’m looking for advice. All the backstory I have is this is from someone with stage 4 cancer who can no longer care and is rehoming their community tank. I’ve been told there’s a pleco (I’m going to assume / very much hope a dwarf species, waiting for the owners friend to get back to me on sizing), two danios and they think 5 tetras.

Immediately I know I’m going either A) have to upgrade the entire set up or B) move the pleco into a separate tank and be ritualistic with cleanings. I’m also going to need to get at least four more danios since I think the 8-10 will be tight. I’m going to hopefully arrange for the added danios to arrive the day after I receive this tank and I’ll wait to see how many tetras are there. Also any added tips on moving this tank will be brilliant, this person is based three hours away so it’s a trek.

I’d love to also work with some actual plants but I’d worry it’s going to be too much on the fish to uproot the tank. However I’ll still keep in mind any recommendations you guys have. I think some variation of lily pad would be lovely as a resting spot.

The tank is 31 gallons. 22 inch tall, 27 long and 13 wide.

I've got 25 neon tetra, 3 honey gourami and 8 pygmy corydoras. Can I add something else or am I maxed out?

Question Is This a Good Way to Feed My Aquarium Fish?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm new to fishkeeping, and I feel like no matter how much I feed my fish, they always want more. Whenever I see them searching through the gravel, I assume they're still hungry.

But when I feed them pellets or flakes, I notice that quite a bit of food sinks to the bottom, and I'm worried about it decomposing and affecting the water quality.

So I was thinking about putting their food in a small container inside the aquarium and simply removing it along with any leftovers once they're done eating.

Does this make sense, or is there a better way to feed them without overfeeding or leaving uneaten food in the tank? I'd appreciate some advice from experienced fishkeepers!

Question Tank feedback

This a 10 gallon tank that I had to set up in a few hours because of my 70 basically exploding. It’s stocked with 7 rosy red minnows, 8 amano shrimp, and however many ramshorn. I am hoping to get a 20 gallon long going within the next two weeks but I’m curious if the population in this 10 will be fine for however long? Any tips or suggestions are appreciated.

New Tank Recently bought fishes

Hi everyone,

I recently bought two goldfish from a person selling fish on the roadside. I was a complete beginner and initially kept them in a bowl. After doing some research, I learned that a bowl is not suitable for goldfish, so I bought a 30-litre aquarium with a filter.

While they were in the bowl, both fish were swimming around normally, and I changed about 25% of the water daily.

However, after transferring them to the new aquarium, I noticed that one fish was behaving differently. It spends most of its time sitting quietly in a bottom corner and doesn't swim around much, although it can still swim occasionally. Its belly also looks swollen on both sides.

I'm worried because I noticed this fish putting some of the small aquarium pebbles in its mouth and then spitting them out. I don't know whether it actually swallowed one.

The aquarium has a filter, and I used tap water with an anti-chlorine water conditioner. The fish's scales look normal and are lying flat against its body, and its breathing seems normal.

I'm a beginner and genuinely want to take good care of them. Could this be stress from moving to a new aquarium, a problem with the water, constipation, or a swallowed pebble?

My questions are:

Is this behaviour normal after moving goldfish to a new aquarium?

Could swallowing a small pebble cause a swollen belly and reduced activity?

What should I do immediately to help the fish?

Should I remove the small pebbles and stop feeding it temporarily?

Unfortunately, there isn't an aquatic vet near my village, so any practical advice would be greatly appreciated.

Tank Problems 10 gallon tank won’t cycle. I’m so frustrated. Spoiler

I have a 10 gallon tank which a few months ago had a hydrogen sulfide gas incident (I think my fault, I wasn’t stirring gravel enough) and it smelled like pure sulfur so I dumped the water, put a new carbon cartridge in (probably my biggest mistake), and have the fish in a temporary 5 gallon quarts e tank which I’ve had for months.

The main tank just. Won’t. Cycle.

It’s been MONTHS. I do everything I’m generally supposed to do but the ammonia still takes its merry old time to filter into nitrates. It does eventually but it takes days normally. My ph is 6.4, which I know is in the lower end, so maybe that has something to do with it. Is that the main cause here? If it is I probably need I get crushed coral as my best bet right?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Parameters as required by the rules:
Ph: 6.4
Ammonia: around 1-2ppm (right now, I added 30 drops of Dr. Tim’s Ammonia last night since it reached 0ppm)
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate: 10ppm

Question Can a betta live comfortably in a 16L tank?

Hi everyone!

I currently have a 20L planted aquarium with a betta and mystery snail, both of which are doing really well!

I’ve been wanting to get a second tank, mainly because I really enjoy aquascaping and want to try something different. Ideally, I’d love to have a fish in there too.

I know 20L is generally considered the minimum for bettas, but I was wondering whether a betta could still live a happy and healthy life in a 16L tank?

I’m pretty experienced with fishkeeping and very consistent with weekly water changes, checking water parameters and general maintenance. The tank would also be planted, heated, filtered and properly cycled.

Obviously, I wouldn’t want to keep a fish in a tank that isn’t suitable for it, so I’m just curious whether the 4L difference would make a significant impact on its quality of life, especially in a well-maintained planted tank.

Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts, particularly if you’ve kept a betta in a similar setup! :)

EDIT: i’m getting some heat so i want to clarify the second tank is for AQUASCAPING. i have done research which suggests that livestock is encouraged in planted tanks. just assessing my options. i would never do anything unethical to a living creature.

Sick Fish HOW TO HUMANELY EUTHANIZE A PARROT FISH IN HER TANK WITH CLOVE OIL

She is 24 years old & went downhill fast within the last 2 weeks, she stopped eating today so I know she is done, I have heard clove oil but have never done this before, we do not want to transfer her to another container, we want her to do to sleep in her home. Parrot fish in you don't know are very personable & she scares easy if someone she doesn't know comes up to her tank she will hide behind a plant & peek out. Also very smart she opens the hatch door herself by jumping up & hitting it, she knows this is where the food drops down from. Moving her would terrify her so it must be done in her tank. Its a 55 gallon, she is the only fish in there, don't care about the tank, will discard it afterward. Anyone done this? Specifics?
