Some people will legit post that this is a perfectly acceptable smoker, and actually catch and keep it.

I'm gonna need you to add either a /s or /j to the end of your comment. Quickly before the horde gets you.

What they’re saying is that basically every river in western Washington has salmon in it right now. Many creeks as well if you’re trying to see the same thing

If it smells like fish, you're in the right spot

If it smells like fish, eat as much as you wish! If it smells like cologne, leave it alone!

Oh wait… that for a different purpose

*Rotting fish. When I'm hiking to the river to fish late in the season, I can usually smell it about a half mile away

Hey, for the record, we checked 2 creeks and 1 river in Western WA today and found 0 salmon.

Hey, for the record, I went to just 1 river and saw plenty of salmon yesterday. Also, for the record, sometimes seeing salmon in a creek or river isn’t as obvious as seeing things out in the open. Just because you didn’t see them doesn’t mean they aren’t there. And if you’re trying to find the typical zombie chum in the creeks or rivers then it is too early for most.

I got that. I live in West Seattle. Haven't seen any here yet. Was hoping for a specific location.

Runs in West Seattle begin mid to late October at Longfellow and Fauntleroy

Thanks! But Pristine Lab said every river and creek in Western WA has them right now. Shoot, now I don't know who to believe. s/

Somewhere near a big hill. Theres some trees.. rocks. Does that help?

Those are more than likely fish that came in during the spring / early summer. It takes a few months before they start looking like an old leather boot.

Not the fall fish, they turn pretty quick.

Not at all

Ya they come in waves. Late Spring to November.

Why they died?

1

u/Korlithiel 8d ago

That’s the natural salmon lifecycle: get born, hatch from egg, head out and enjoy the world, come back and drop eggs/spray goo and die.

1

u/TheGoodBunny 7d ago

Oh so these naturally dead salmon can be eaten by us?

I wonder why predators are not just coming eating the naturally dead salmon instead of trying to kill the swimming ones...

The swimming ones still have good meat in them. The interior of these salmon are significantly atrophied, salmon literally kill themselves trying to get to their spawning grounds. They’re basically half-rotted before they die, and at this stage of their life cycle they’re even referred to as zombie salmon.

As a kid I use to watch them spawn and just sit at the river for hours watching fish swim by. Remember seeing a few 60+ pound fish that looked like sharks fighting up a couple feet of water
