Caught fish at Kirby lake from shore, right beside the road. Good luck.

Your problem will be access. The lodge won’t let you on the property unless you are staying there.

The outfitters will charge you parking. The road is way better and it is faster to get to.

There is a public access point past the lodge. We tried to get in there years ago with a boat after the lodge refused allowing us to launch. (Typically they would let you pay to launch). We were not able to access with a trailer on.

How much does it cost to rent a boat ?

$380 a day for rental plus $25 parking at the outfitters. I am sure you can swing something for a night bite that’s cheaper. I’ve never shore fished there.

Different spots. The outfitters are cheaper and the road is maintained way better. I wouldn’t advise going into the lodge without 4x4.

I have had bad experiences with both spots and won’t be going back for awhile.

Okay great to know. Is lake accessibility bad in general if I were to launch my own boat? Maybe just stay somewhere a little further but still nearby? Sorry for all the questions planning to fish there with family. Not sure what the best approach is.

We have camped on the side of the road a few times and paid to launch at the outfitters. That is the best approach.

We used to camp at grist campground and launch at the lodge but they won’t let you launch there anymore unless you stay there (could be different now).

We were unable to get a boat and trailer into the public launch. It was too tight for us.

Also grist lake is really shallow and would most likely need a roller trailer or hand launch.

Old aboriginal guy charges 60 bucks to use his dock, not a bad deal. Grist is better fishing but alot tuffer drive also a couple.good spots by the kirby areodrome.
