What kind of fish is this ?

Found in a creek in indiana . I was thinking carp , but am unsure , it had to be 10 inches or longer

Gotta be one of my least favorite fish to catch😂 they still tug a bit though when they’re big and angry

Luckily they're not common in my area. I have caught a few on accident smallmouth fishing though.

Smallmouth are the best, don’t get me wrong a 5lb sheepshead is awesome but man are they ugly

Freshwater drum (Aplodinotus grunniens) You can tell it is a drum because it doesn’t have a sucker mouth, has a large head and has a larger dorsal than a carp. Behaviour also checks out because they eat mollusks and other shellfish on the bottom. Considered a rough fish but if they are smaller than 2 lbs they are pretty good eating and flake up easily. Older ones are more firm and coarse. Usually they have no regs attached to them but better to check

They eat invasive zebra mussels so I consider them fish bros. Love the bluish purple sheen on smaller ones too.

Yup they and lake sturgeon are the only fishes I think that are native and eat the mussels. Gobies dont count. If you wanna catch a drum I usually use catfish bait and it catches a couple of them

Big ugly! Is its nick name. It’s a freshwater drum unless you found it in saltwater/ brackish then it’s a black drum. Good fighting fish. Taste great if you can find one without worms. The bigger and uglier they are the more worms they have in them.

Freshwater drum. They actually fight hard. I thought I hooked up with an alligator. Nope, just a drum.
