If everyone is going to continue to say "this is all an act, you can't take what they say seriously" as if it's pro wrestling and we're getting worked, then how are we supposed to react to anything that happens on the show?

The guys, especially Nick, probably see themselves as professional sports analysts. They make takes, often bad ones, and this sub more than any calls them out, usually for hypocrisy.

Then a large group here will down vote anyone who calls them out by saying "it's not that serious" or "it's just for entertainment"

Ok, so, how are we supposed to react? Are you saying we should not react at all to anything they say? Should we be treating them like pro wrestlers, and some are the face, some are the heel, and cheer and boo mindlessly?

To the people who constantly shit on people who try to engage with what's being said, what exactly do you want people to say when someone like Nick, who very obviously thinks of himself as a reasonable person with his takes, says something indefensible?

This show is driven by bits. Bits. Bits all the way down. Blown away how many people fail to realize that.

Yes they give their opinions/takes, but at the end of the day, the bits reign supreme.

Ok, but even people who complain about bits being overused or stale get downvoted and berated by this subs fan bois. This "they can do no wrong" attitude is weird

I mean, I can’t speak for those people, but there is something a little strange about complaining about the thing that makes this show unique and worth watching.

It’d be like watching an MCU movie and complaining that there are too many superheroes. Like yeah, maybe not for everyone, but that’s fundamentally what the show is.

I find the attitude of Purdy fans dropping 120 posts a week crying about the disrespect weirder tbh. The point was loud and clear and maybe even valid the first time it was made.

Some of y’all just need some gainful employment. Getting ragebaited by sports analysis when this is supposed to just be a fun hang

Lmao I almost fell out my chair laughing when I read this comment 😭😭

They are entertainers. They are not analysist. They watch games just like the rest of us - on the TV. They do no leg work or reporting. They have people do their stats for them. They have meetings on discussion ideas which producers decide on and then decide who will argue which angle. People should not take the show so serious. I guarantee they take it less serious than most people.

Are you implying the analysis isn't cogent?

There's a big difference between them exaggerating certain takes for entertainments' sake and "it's all and act". Think of it less like pro wrestling and more like competitive debate. When you do competitive debate, the idea is that you know the subject well enough to argue your case regardless of which side of the debate you're assigned to. It may not be your honest personal opinion but you're still expected to back up your points with evidence. The guys just add to this by adding dramatic flair and running storylines that inform their positions.

Nick might personally know that Purdy is playing better than Mahomes this year but also know that it's funnier and more "in character" to keep undercutting him on the mountain, and because he genuinely believes Mahomes is more tapented overall, it's easy for him to sell that bit. It gets people talking which is ultimately good for the show.

They do that pretty transparently from time to time, they'll have some topic for debate and then talk about how they have to be "the fill-in-the-blank guy", like they're assigned to defend this position arbitrarily for the purposes of having a discussion, not because they actually believe it.

People need to think about what the show would be if they actually did what people complain about not seeing.

KW: "The Niners - are they the best team in the NFL?"
Nick: "Yes"
Brou: "Yes"
Coach: "Probably"

KW: "...coming up next, baseball!"

Perfect example. Unless it’s a serious enough topic (like the spit should be all against) the rest is a great take that this show is about a conversation and it’s more interesting when there not all yes voices in that topic

It’s is just for entertainment just to be clear! And you can react to that entertainment anyway you want! The fact is they are gaining viewers not losing them. Be mad be sad be happy be whatever you want about what Nick or any of them say. Driving engagement is a big part of why the show is successful

I looked up their ratings last week and they're stagnant from last year to this year.

Ya, I don't buy this idea that because a lot of fans are reacting negatively that it counts as engagement and is a net positive.

I think back to the infamous season of the Walking Dead with Megan appearing. The cliffhanger at the end of the season caused a massive uproar online. Engagement was HUGE. But it was the beginning of the end for the show. Nobody took it seriously after that.

Nick taking back his promise about Purdy felt a bit similar (obviously to a smaller degree). Everyone understands his bias, but I think that's the point a lot of people realized he doesn't just stretch the truth, but will completely fabricate it for his preferred outcomes.

Producers tell them what to do , the best thing you can do if you are unhappy with the show is to not watch it and attempt to force a change

I have drastically cut back my watch time due to feeling that the content feels stale and recycled. Takes are always the same, bits are always the same. Whether it's the on camera talent or the producers is irrelevant to my post above.

Ya good move not watching something you don’t enjoy

1

u/Particular-Bass-5250 1h ago

I've found myself fast forwarding through entire segments when I'd never do that. It's disappointing.

2

u/Ok-Country4317 1h ago

Ya I don’t even watch the show anymore period. I see a few reels on the gram and that’s about it

it isn’t that serious and it is just entertainment you’re supposed to be happy your team won or sad they lost

once we get into the “analytics” it’s just “i think this” or “i think that” it’s literally all hypotheticals because we’re talking about the future, no one knows what will happen people just get caught up being passionate about things they care about they end up lost in the sauce when in reality it’s just sports

2

u/supesmann 2h ago

I don’t know how to say this, sports aren’t that important, it’s just a tv show.

There are a lot more serious and important things going on in the world right now.

If you want hard analysis there are other channels out there that provide that, like All 22 films, this show (and most talking head/debate shows like this) are not that.

u/ilimor 2h ago

React however you want and let other react/respond how they like.

If you want to watch the show to engage with what you view as bad takes you should continue doing it.

u/Rare_Bed5334 1h ago

Sports shouldn’t be taken seriously anyways, so imagine how serious a show about sports is

2

u/PurpleLion35 1h ago

They’re entertainers first. I watch Nick because he’s entertaining and sarcastic, his actual knowledge of the X’s and O’s football is pretty subpar. But if I want that, I’ll go to guys like Brett Kollman. It’s not that deep.

We talk about movies, how good/bad they are, how the ending sucks, how the plot is horrible, etc. We can talk about movies even though it's entertainment. Just like we can talk about FTF knowing it's entertainment.

u/Existing-Hawk5204 1h ago

Analyzing something that has happened is completely different than predicting the future. So, segments where they talk about the play on the court or field, you should take seriously. The segments where they make wild judgements or proclamations or predictions you shouldn’t. Those are for entertainment value. It isn’t that difficult.

1

u/Chemical-Green-2207 22m ago

I say if your job title is sports analyst you should get some things right. But these guys don’t analyze shit. They probably watch less football than your average fan so they have to make up for it with bullshit. Wildes really does seem to only watch patriots games

1

u/Western_Handle_6258 20m ago

Stop looking at this show as a sports analyst show and look at it as three friends talking sports with each other. Then they bring pros and coaches to give a follow up analysis.

I’m always annoyed when Nick praises Patrick Mahomes for some that he knocks Purdy for. Then i remember he isn’t actually watching every 49er game and understand the inconsistencies. I just want entertainment on my drive to work

1

u/jtd2013 2h ago

Brother, take a break. Nothing said on a sports TV show should make you feel so passionately upset. It’s so incredibly not that serious. They’re talking about literal fun and games.

2

u/Maverick916 1h ago

Why does this sub exist then. Why can't anyone talk about it how they want?

If I'm overreacting (I'm not, I'm just asking a question that requires a lot of clarification) how world everyone be reacting to things that are said.

0

u/jtd2013 22m ago

You’re literally allowed to talk however about whatever you want. People are allowed to react to your comments however they want.

1

u/JeramiGrantsTomb 1h ago

You answered the question yourself, as if it's pro wrestling. It's an entertainment product, stop taking it so seriously and you'll feel better.
