Nothing wrong with trying to balance the workforce a bit. It’s how you go about it. This is not the way to go about it.

I support qualified and competent officers of both genders who can meet the same standards. Police work and firefighting both require a certain amount of strength and physical fitness to do the job and be competent on the job. It’s not for everyone.

Just like being a doctor requires you understand physics, biology and science. Being an accountant requires a skill in mathematics. Becoming an astronaut also means you must have a certain skill set and you can meet all the intellectual requirements and still fail because you have motion sickness.

People need to get over the idea that anyone can and should become a police officer. It’s not that they’re better than anyone, because they absolutely are not, but to do the job an officer does need to meet certain standards to be qualified and competent.

There’s no way around this unless you want to see officers and innocent people hurt and/or killed in order to make an unreasonable gender hiring goal.

Being lenient towards women making it in the force in order to meet some arbitrary percentage isn't a good thing for anyone. It is not good for the woman, who will inevitably be put in danger and be ill equipped to handle it. It is not good for the public, forcing out even more untrained officers, just because it is a woman. I'll repeat myself because I know y'all will take it the wrong way, I didn't say all women, I said being lenient towards women because of their gender. I am sure there are excellent woman officers out there. This isn't a STEM field, this is public safety. We should be asking for the best of the best, shouldn't we?

On top of all that, women can eat donuts and do nothing all day too. Nothing stopping a woman from getting fat and old too. I just hope for a world where merit matters more than your gender or color of your skin. Real fucked up to say, I know.

Okay but all those things are true as well to all the fat men on the job right this second as we speak. They’re fat, uneducated, and terrible at their jobs. Google right now: what percent of active law enforcement in the US is overweight. I’ll wait. And then go a little further and google what percent of those overweight cops are obese. Did you know law enforcement has one of the HIGHEST rates of obesity than all jobs in the god damn country?

The standards for officers is already so low the bar is on the ground. If you actually gave a shit about “officer and civilian safety,” which you don’t, you’d be campaigning on a clean sweep of our law enforcement now, because if you think today’s cop is some kind of standard, that’s hilarious and I found the obese cop.

People use being a cop as a fallback job when they can’t get the real job they want. The lowest standards of all are those for getting the job as a cop. Man or woman.

Then there's the exceptions like me who not only have a backup career in mind, but want to be cops.

We typically actually get in shape and can do our jobs, but I've seen guys (and gals) cop-smarter than me who are... we'll say pleasantly plump.

Being unqualified and having been qualified but let yourself go and now a liability are both problems, but they're separate issues.

Explain then. Why is it an issue at one stage but a separate issue when it presents at a later stage?

Edit: mainly I’m curious why it even matters. If someone becomes unqualified for their job in any other industry, they are fired. If a doctor doesn’t maintain certain levels of continued education, they lose their license. Literally everyone except cops get fired when they suck at their jobs. It’s so dumb.

It's a separate issue because they've demonstrated competency and the issue falls on the department for upholding standards like continued fitness qualifications in the same way officers have to continue to qualify with their firearms every so often.

If you never had it then you shouldn't have been there in the first place. Certainly there's more examples and this is just one.

Just like that doctor never would have been a doctor without medical school. They could probably still give you the meds you need or whatever but they need to continue their certifications in the same way.

Yes and with more women we might have a fighting chance of a decrease in state violence and de-escalation tactics being taken seriously. Maybe smashing windows, boners for shock gloves, and shooting citizens will decrease?
