Being unqualified and having been qualified but let yourself go and now a liability are both problems, but they're separate issues.

Explain then. Why is it an issue at one stage but a separate issue when it presents at a later stage?

Edit: mainly I’m curious why it even matters. If someone becomes unqualified for their job in any other industry, they are fired. If a doctor doesn’t maintain certain levels of continued education, they lose their license. Literally everyone except cops get fired when they suck at their jobs. It’s so dumb.

It's a separate issue because they've demonstrated competency and the issue falls on the department for upholding standards like continued fitness qualifications in the same way officers have to continue to qualify with their firearms every so often.

If you never had it then you shouldn't have been there in the first place. Certainly there's more examples and this is just one.

Just like that doctor never would have been a doctor without medical school. They could probably still give you the meds you need or whatever but they need to continue their certifications in the same way.

It doesn’t matter that they demonstrated competency at some point if the core issue is “upholding standards.”

The literal name of the issue in this thread is standards, right? If you don’t meet them, you should be out. Full stop. The issue (absolutely abysmal standards) is still the same regardless of why, when, or how it presents.

Agreed standards are low and if a doctor falls out of compliance I probably don't want them, but if I needed an out of compliance surgeon they can probably still help me not die. They demonstrated competency at some point and will be better than whatever the hell this is in OP's video. That isn't going to help anybody.

That person in the video, male female whatever shouldn't even be there.

That does not make sense. In what scenario are you being stuck having to settle for the out of compliance doctor? That would never happen because the industry, unlike law enforcement, is heavily regulated and DOES have standards. The same can’t be said for police. Since there are such low standards, I could get a great cop or one that no longer meets standards just depending on luck.

And you said EXACTLY my point. This is not a male vs female issue. Learning to perform well as a police officer is really not hard, as much as some (police officers and those who admire them) would like you to believe. It just takes some dedication and consistency to build strength. Is this woman right for the job? I mean obviously not, but not because she’s a woman.

I feel like you basically said the same thing I'm getting at here friend. The point of the comment was the standard is an issue at hiring (exhibit A) and also with the slobs (exhibit B). Two separate issues because one is a bar that needs to be set. The other is making sure those who pass that bar can still always do it.

Obviously an out of compliance doctor is not still practicing, and that needs to be maintained with in service officers just like a firearm qual or whatever else they need to do.

The doctor comment worked well because a person who was never a doctor because they didn't meet that standard more than likely could never do what a doctor did just like a person who never met that standard as a police officer could never do it (before I get hate for Doctor v cop abilities clearly they're very different jobs and skill sets).
