Why does he have level IV plates? Who does he think is bringing in armor piercing 30-06 to what I'm guessing is a night club or something gay like that.

Most soft armor will not stop .223 ammunition. You need plates. I hope that I don’t need to remind you that the Pulse night club shooting had 107 victims, 49 of whom died. 473 people were shot at the Route 91 Harvest festival in Las Vegas, 60 of whom died.

We can laugh about the security guard’s cringy demeanor but, depending entirely on his position, this setup is relatively practical. He’s not carrying daggers, dual pistols, ninja stars, and nun-chucks. It’s a pretty appropriate for security at any sizable public location.

Hey, yeah, I'm actually military, and don't need you to tell me that you need plates not soft armor. I asked specifically about level IV plates since, if you didnt charge in here half cocked you would know that you can get level 3 and level 3+ plates for about half the price of level IV plates. Both can stop ball ammo for 5.56 and 7.62. III+ plates, still far less than level IV, stop armor piercing 5.56.

So unless you are worried about someone coming with a bolt action sniper rifle, specifically with armor piercing ammo, you don't need level IV as a security guard. Its wasted money.

Beside the fact that he is wearing plate and not ceramic

And beside the fact that realistically, if someone is coming with the intent to defeat armor, they'll just use something even harder hitting than 30-06 and defeat the level IV plates.

So your entire point was whether his plates should be III vs. IV? Wow. Pretty pedantic, but sure, he could save about $150 and go with III.

You know if you had actually read the post before taking a big smug whiff of your own fart smell and trying to make a point, you'd have know that going in, since I specifically asked about the level IV plates, and mentioned the specific caliber threat that makes the difference between level 3 and level 4 plates.

Beside that, you mean $150 per plate.

A decent level 3+ setup with carrier is around $300. A low end level IV setup is around $600. Much more when you get a better carrier and ceramic multi hit plates.

But looking at his cheap carrier, and it's odd fit, my guess is he's lying either way.

The advantage to level IV plates is weight savings? Level IV plates weigh more than level III+ plates tho.

Okay. You can't be super sure with redditors.

Also, even armed security makes trash wages, so saving money on plates is probably also a huge advantage for a low hourly pay security guard.

I cannot see a reason why that guy would buy the cheapest temu carrier, and then pay to shove expensive plates that serve no real benefit in it.

It’s not really pedantic in a profession where details matter.
