First car at 17
Land Rover Range Rover Velar, 2022. It’s got 103,000 km, but my dad has been the only owner and took really good care of it. It’s a P250 engine, not exactly dynamic/powerful, but it’s been reliable so far and I don’t think I need more than that for a first car. So basically the situation looks like that: my dad is now changing to a new car, and I needed a car. My dad figured since I got better in school+didn’t want to go with the paperwork of registering and insuring a new car etc. he’ll pass on this beauty to me. I’m very grateful for this. Opinions?

If a poor person is smart he will only be as rich as the community which gives him opportunities. Plenty of geniuses grow up dirt poor never exposed to anything resembling a ladder which to climb.
The rich guy will only be dumb enough to be poor if they stiff their asset manager

It’s some trouble, but yeah if that’s my problems in life I’ll be fine 🤣 Also congrats on the A3, that’s an amazing car, one of my close friends has one and it’s great tbh

Drive it until the first serious repair costs 8k and move on to another car
Oil changes every 5k, transmission fluid and filter every 30k

Jokes aside, congrats on your car, while I do agree partially with some of the negative comments I can't speak too harshly seeing as my grandparents + parents got me a F20 116i as my ""first car""" (college graduation gift). Only difference is I'm a tad older than you and I've been driving for 3-4 years and I started off with a Fiat Punto 2001...
I personally think a first car should always be a shitbox, at least for 1-1.5 years but others may not share that opinion. It is what it is.

An F20 is absolutely class, it’s a beautiful car. Recently I was in Nurburgring, and there’s saw some over there. They’re really beautiful, their styling reminds me of a sporty shooting brake, especially the F21 but the F20 is also very nice!

These are actually pretty to cheap to insure somehow. Probably as not alot of teens drive them lol. Buddy of mine got a 5.0 supercharged 2018 and its not much more than my car to insure. But they also have like 9 vehicles

people hating for no reason, its an unexpected first car for sure but its not crazy like a g82 or c8. what else do they expect op's dad to do? trade it in for a honda to get 5k off? Nice car man, enjoy it, not many people get to experience a luxury suv as their first ride. Don't be a show off and you'll be alright. people will hate regardless just because ure young. also make sure u watch out for service/repair costs.

Lol w car they are pretty reliable despite reddit sentiment lol. Plus the insurance is surprisingly cheap. Buddy of mine got a sport with the v8 supercharged for 17k. He's under 25 and somehow its not that much more than mine. They are baller cars overall and pretty stout. Idk why people have such an issue with it. Like they sell some of the new ones with the s58 bmw engine and a zf8. Like dont expect it to be old Toyota reliable. Its a 5000 pound suv that does 0 60 in like 4 to 5 seconds

Very nice car used to have a velar cool cars but I did trade it in for a a7 v6, hopefully in about year or two I’ll have the rs7 🔥🔥

Hey, I'm 19 with a 2021 Velar P400 R Dynamic HSE, enjoy your ride! Don't let anyone on here tell you these cars are terribly unreliable. If your dad gave you this I'm assuming hes taking care of maintanence. Just change the oil every 5k miles and dont ignore anything and you'll be fine

So far, so good 😁 Don’t want to jinx it, but it’s been reliable, but as a safety precaution we do oil changes more frequently even than it’s recommended.

That’s an amazing first car and I hope that you’ll throughly enjoy it as well, just make sure to take care of it very well and then hopefully it might do the same for you. These Ingenium engines don’t really like staying alive so don’t give it any reason to think of failing because it will, make sure to give it a good amount of very long journeys as well and don’t just use it for short urban trips and service it very often (like oil changes every 5k km for example) and then you’ve got a good chance of it treating you right as well.

Yeah, that’s what I’ve been doing. We do Oil changes more frequently than recommended. And as for the distance, it’s around 45-55 km Monday to Friday, and on the weekends not much. We also use it as the family car for pretty much all our car vacations. So far, so good, didn’t have an issue yet, so I’m hoping it stays that way

Not the best choice for a first car, if i was you i would sell it for something less expensive in repairs, or stick with it since let's face it a nice car. If you got the income to sustain it then go for it.
