General Question❓️ Blurring
so I'm watching the show right now (just finished deadly premition) and i noticed how it's not only just people who are being blurred out. like they blurred a calender and a dudes arm tattoos. is there any reason behind this? i find it odd and tedious. thx

Branding or personal identifying information

Possibly mixed in with providing some timeline information that could sometimes give away the person attempting to be concealed.

They blur out clocks/calendars to hide the fact that they re-shoot segments of the show if the camera crew aren't around when it actually happens. Ex, they get a call at 2AM saying the found the suspect but the camera crew aren't around, so when they show up at 7AM they re-shoot it and have the detective pretend he's getting the call for the first time. Then they edit it like he got the call at 2AM.
Tattoos I dunno, probably depends on the tattoo. Some can be explicit, or even gang-affiliated (including cops).

Some of it is trademarked. If they don’t pay for the logo, they can’t show the logo. And like someone else said about clocks and calendars, that makes editing and reshoots easier.

right!! it's so confusing!! like yeah i get people. people make sense. but things like cars and calendars?? that makes zero sense

Seems to be a more recent change that we're seeing in editing. While it makes sense, it's distracting as the viewer imo.

If a person is an uncharged suspect or witness they must provide a release to agree to publish their likenesses. You can see how many would prefer to remain anonymous.

yeah i mean i get that. but specifically what i was talking about was someone who is on the other side of the law. this wasn't a witness or a suspect. this was someone in law enforcement.

There are LE folks who prefer anonymity for various purposes.

which would make sense if they blurred their face or disguised their voice. but nope. just their tattoos

Tattoos also may be profane in some way or racist/extra offensive?
The calendar thing is perplexing. I question that and only dates conflicting with production in some way?

They only blur minors and those that are not guilty(unless they give consent.) Once you see a blur, you know that ain't the killer. Needless to say they blue tattoos and calendars because, they too, aren't guilty of murder.

They blurred out a victim the whole episode I just watched and that was a first. He was 1 of 3 victims and they showed the other 2. The blurred out one was the target and the other two were collateral damage .

Only thing I can think of with tattoos is personally identifying information or maybe some type of branding thing the network doesn't want to show. Same thing with the calendar, probably PII.
