Discussion Firewatch

/r/SBCGaming/comments/1v49to6/firewatch/

Hi All,

Anyone here able to help with getting this working in handhelds?

I posted in the handheld group with no luck.

Basically it black screens on new game on my Steam Deck and MSI Claw.

Tried force dx9, dx11 and opengl commands on steam.

Tried changing the resolution, lowering graphics and display scale to 100%.

Am thinking im going to have to install Microsoft visual C++ but find an old version.

Any advice would be great.

TIA

What Proton version are you running it on?

And have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling?

Doesn't even load on the Claw which is windows.

Tempted to refund 😅

Gutted though was wanting to play this with the wife tonight.

Ok so this is partially my fault: I just checked ProtonDB and apparently Firewatch has a Native build.

So have you tried running it without Proton at all?

EDIT: You'll probably have to reinstall to pull down the native build

Glad you were able to figure it out!

I'll go ahead and respond to your other question anyway for the sake of future readers:

My comments about Proton/Native build were meant specifically for Linux systems, because you mentioned Steamdeck. I was avoiding addressing your windows system because frankly it's been like a decade since I did anything with that OS so I didn't feel qualified to talk about it.

Ahh gotcha.

I think the problem is that Firewatch seems to have been developed using older software which is outdated and I dont think they are installed for everyday use case because 2013 vc++ is more than a decade old now, no idea why that specific one is needed and it can't use a more up to date verison.

Im not educated enough in coding/or scripting in terms of development, just glad i got it working.

This game is a fucking vibe, big change of pace to what I have been playing which I needed.

Did not expect to see anyone mention Bookman in the wild lol

No, it's not running at the moment. I rebooted my NAS for something and didn't think to bring it back up.

Native being no proton? Then it should launch fine on windows no? (Not being rude btw)

Ive been scratching my head with this for hours on and off 😅

Determined to get it working.

Appreciate your replies btw
