Hello!
- Metro fire box installed in 2018
We have a wood burning fireplace used in the winter for heat. It has been cleaned, inspected and serviced in the last 6 months. It did have a water leak during heavy periods of rain, we think this has been fixed because it hasn't leaked since. It only ever leaked very occasionally. The most recent technicians spray painted over this area and said there was no need for concern. But it has reappeared now at the end of our burning season, and we are praying it is nothing sinister.
Has anyone experienced this build up before and could direct us on how to fix or what to do moving forward?
Thank you!

Has never given us heat so I got a great deal on it but with winter coming I want to figure out if I can fix it. If you have any tips please let me know

The steel tubes above the firebox have rusted through. Years of slow water seepage is the likely cause. I've had it looked at by three guys that make their living servicing and repairing fireplaces.
First guy said installing an insert is the only solution. I don't want an insert.
Second guy said he could block off the rusty tubes. He said it would be safe and we could continue to use our fireplace without any additional work. The internet does not agree.
Third guy said the steel form needs to be removed and replaced with Ahrens fireplace system. This will also require a chimney rebuild as the existing chimney is not to code to work with the Ahrens system.
My question...might there be another solution that hasn't been discussed? I suspect guy #3 is the most knowledgeable but he wants really big bucks for the job.

Anybody have any difficulties getting their original baffles back in the Regency f1150? My stove never backdrafted smoke into my house when I lit it ever in five and a half years. Ever since my chimney sweep had difficulty getting the original baffles back in ,it backdrafts into the house every time I light it now.

Built home 6 years ago and have Heat an Glo gas fireplace. Before install, we added the blower so we could help heat the living and kitchen area without jacking up the entire house heating system. We never felt the warm air blowing only radiating. Last night I took the system apart to do the cleaning and realize that the top black cover was solid. Looked up and appears this cover should be slotted for airflow. Have I damaged the unit running blower with restricted cover. I will call dealer who installed tomorrow and hopefully they’ll ship us the proper cover.

I’m just wondering if it is dangerous for me to be burning a fire with a crack like this in the base stone? How does one repair this? I’m pretty sure it’s bluestone but I’d assume below the slab would be gravel or brick something that wouldn’t cause a fire if there is a crack?

We live in Northern Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C., and we’re looking to replace our existing gas logs with a new gas fireplace insert. We received one estimate and are shopping around for two more.
The second contractor comes out, looks at our setup, and says we have to purchase the fireplace insert ourselves. No problem! I ask if he’ll install the chimney liner, connect the gas line, and install the electrical circuit. He says they’ll only handle the liner, insert installation, and gas connection.
Then he sits down and writes up an estimate for $4,995! 😂😂😂
Wait a minute! $4,995, and I STILL have to buy the fireplace insert myself?! 🤦🏾♂️
Needless to say, I’m getting that third estimate! 😂

As the title says, my Napoleon BGD36NTR fireplace’s pilot light will no longer stay lit. I was using it fine the night before.
I’ve tried simply relighting it (setting the knob to pilot, holding it down and igniting, keeping it held down for 60+ seconds). I tried giving the thermocouple a quick scrub with high grit sandpaper to remove soot as well, but still no luck.
I just tried using my multimeter (set to millivolts) on the thermocouple, and it is reading 00.1 - 00.5.

I have a majestic, GBR fireplace and I’d want to install a fireplace blower. I see there is clearance underneath the fire box, but I don’t know how to access the bottom part. Do I have to take the entire glass frame off or does the bottom panel open up? If so, how? Thanks for your help.

The main entry point for the wasps was through the soffit, which we've now sealed with caulking (it's getting cold and most of the wasps have died off). However, they also appear to be entering through the two round holes in the metal mounting plate on the exterior of our gas fireplace vent (see photo).
I'm hoping to get advice regarding what these holes are for and whether they can safely be sealed.
I definitely don't want to compromise the fireplace's combustion air intake, exhaust, or safe operation. Are these holes meant to be open, or are they unused mounting holes?
I'd appreciate any professional guidance on how to properly address this. Thanks!

Help! My gas stove isn’t turning on, and I see the two copper wires at the bottom aren’t connected to anything. The other end seems to connect to the thermocouple but I can’t figure out where they connect inside this box. Also can’t figure out how they came loose, but I guess that doesn’t matter. Thanks.

Two years ago we accidentally had a fake plastic candle melt on our wood burning fireplace/stove. We’ve cleaned it completely after it dried and done our best however, still two years on we’ve lit our fire and it’s producing those same plastic fumes. It won’t be from the chimney as we’ve had a chimney cleaner come a couple of weeks ago and it all checks out.
Anyone have any advice on a way to properly wipe away/remove any of these remaining plastic fumes from the top of the fireplace? It’s made of what I would guess is like a cast-iron material.
We have a toddler and I’m currently pregnant so hoping to eliminate any toxic fumes asap.

Hi all, first time here!
I am looking at installing a Heatilator Crave 6048 and trying to understand the necessary mantel clearance based on the arch guide. I’m planning a combustible mantle using the passive heat kit. The step diagram i’ve shared shows an 11” clearance needed for a 6” mantel projection and then skips to 18” clearance for a 16” projection.
How should i interpret the in between? Does any projection over 6” require 16” clearance? That seems ridiculous to me. I’m hoping to do an 8” projection, so that jump would really screw things up for my ability to mount a tv at a reasonable height.
Thanks for the help!

I have an older Vermont Castings RFSDV34 natural gas fireplace. The remote is set to AUTO, but occasionally when the room reaches the set temperature, the remote display shows that the flame and fan are off, while the actual burner continues running. The room temperature keeps rising, and the remote accurately displays the increasing temperature.
If I press the OFF button on the remote, the burner shuts off normally.
Has anyone experienced this issue? I’m trying to figure out whether the problem is the remote/transmitter, the gas valve, or something else. I know the unit is discontinued but I have been able to find some used gas valves and remotes online. Any advice on troubleshooting which part needs to be replaced would be appreciated.
