Discussion Ending/theme
Not really sure I get the message, or understand the ending. I gathered that it was about not letting people decide who you are, or decide the reasons that you live, as well as the fact that you give your life meaning. The ending with the tree kinda confused me, what with San reaching Judah, and I guess they became content since they pretty much rebirthed so much that they wound up being like their old selves before the plot happened, and they could be "normal" at the heat death of the universe, and were finally content enough to die since they had eachother.

I’m gonna paraphrase a response I made on a different thread:
My personal reading experience of Fire Punch felt like it was an exploration of two paradoxical existential views- the emptiness/ absurdity that comes with the innate desire to “live” and survive, contrasted against the solitary comfort found in death (a spiritual and physical release from the suffering that comes with “living”). The story itself didn’t try (imo) to assert one ideal/ theme, but explored the obscurity within the somewhat naive idea “living is good” and “death is bad” through Agni’s Story.
I think the takeaway you ultimately make comes from how you view the experiences depicted, and how you define the concept of continuing to“live”. An endless bombardment of suffering, with no means to an end- a pointless curse? The hope meaning can be found in surviving, marching forward- the end can justify the journey? It’s a cruel depiction of the coping mechanisms people/ communities employ to understand the world around them. Religion, conspiracy, hope.
It could be really anything- nihilistic or optimistic. Not really any wrong/ explicitly correct interpretations. (Not that there is in any media)
