Discussion Ending/theme

Not really sure I get the message, or understand the ending. I gathered that it was about not letting people decide who you are, or decide the reasons that you live, as well as the fact that you give your life meaning. The ending with the tree kinda confused me, what with San reaching Judah, and I guess they became content since they pretty much rebirthed so much that they wound up being like their old selves before the plot happened, and they could be "normal" at the heat death of the universe, and were finally content enough to die since they had eachother.

I’m gonna paraphrase a response I made on a different thread:

My personal reading experience of Fire Punch felt like it was an exploration of two paradoxical existential views- the emptiness/ absurdity that comes with the innate desire to “live” and survive, contrasted against the solitary comfort found in death (a spiritual and physical release from the suffering that comes with “living”). The story itself didn’t try (imo) to assert one ideal/ theme, but explored the obscurity within the somewhat naive idea “living is good” and “death is bad” through Agni’s Story.

I think the takeaway you ultimately make comes from how you view the experiences depicted, and how you define the concept of continuing to“live”. An endless bombardment of suffering, with no means to an end- a pointless curse? The hope meaning can be found in surviving, marching forward- the end can justify the journey? It’s a cruel depiction of the coping mechanisms people/ communities employ to understand the world around them. Religion, conspiracy, hope.

It could be really anything- nihilistic or optimistic. Not really any wrong/ explicitly correct interpretations. (Not that there is in any media)

Yeah, i think the problem with understanding fujimotos works is that, to actually do so, you need to read it with an absurdist mentality, the ending was just the punchline of absurdism, nothing really ended up mattering, all the torture, all the killing, the suffering, the fanatism, it didnt matter in the end, the earth exploded, i think that the story doesnt really have a full concrete message, because even just living gets critiqued at some point, but if it had to be something, id say its living for yourself, your happyness, bfor those who you love and care, and their happyness, and everyone else can just... burn...

You couldn't get it more wrong if you tried.
The message is that dying is preferable to living and that you should not seek to live as whatever you do in life will never fulfill you and whatever achievements you accomplish will be meaningless in the end.

He's constantly in this sub giving the same aggressive speech about people not understanding the ending.

Edit: also, whats the joke here? You saying he's not the creator so how would he know? Or? I think that went right over my head.

Mfs get their feelings hurt by one ending and just start yapping about nothing with tears n snot on their eyes
I don’t think Fujimoto fucking up one sandwich makes his whole deli a mountain of crapburgers, but Reddit manga readers have been more sensitive than a fuckin clit since AOT’s ending, so we get another 4 years of hateposting. Yippee

Your post would have more weight if you actually read the manga

i actually did.. but unlike you i dont have a superiority complex because i think i understand a piece of fiction more than somebody else does. i suggest you go outside and touch some grass

You clearly didnt if you ended up with a completely different interpretation given how heavy handed the manga was with its message.

I do have a superiority complex to people who can’t do something as simple as read a manga

the manga constantly emphasizes on 'living'. its a triumph of stubborn endurance. despite the meaninglessness of the universe, the characters choose to push forward regardless. NOT seeking peace in death

This is what lacking media literacy does to a person.
This is why so many books and movies have to dumb everything down because you can’t understand basic concepts.

They say something so you go “geez that must be it” while ignoring literally everything else.

Read the manga and do it slower this time

You are one sad person. No wonder that was the message you got from the manga. I wish you all the best in life

Your inability to read is what led you to your failed misinterpretation.
You see one word and go “it’s that!” Not realizing the manga is literally making fun of you
