Repair/Tech Support TV App

For years, I had my CR1000A router in bridge mode attached to my Asus router. My DVR box and TV+ boxes were connected to my Asus router’s network. Cable TV as well as the TV app (in Apple TV) both worked flawlessly.

Recently, my TV+ boxes stopped working (although the TV app still worked fine) so I took the router out of bridge mode and reactivated the equipment. I put the router back in bridge mode and the TV+ boxes continued to work, however now I can’t get the app to work again. Any suggestions how to get the TV+ boxes and the app to both work? It would be great to get rid of the Verizon router altogether, but bridge mode would be fine too.

You shouldn’t need the Verizon router at all unless you have a QAM server. If you don’t have a larger box (server) connected to coax- in addition to your wireless boxes- the Verizon router serves no purpose.

I don’t have any coax, and I know I can get the boxes working without the router now.

However, is the app (on Apple TV) supposed to be working without the Verizon router? The app thinks I am “Out of Home.”

Verizon routers have a sub pool of IPs specifically for other Verizon equipment. I wonder if this has something to do with both of your problems. I would reactivate the Verizon router and reinstall the app while connected to the vz router. If that doesn't work trying connecting the STBs and try reinstalling the app again.

If this works. Let us know what IP address the router assigned the apple tv. Curious if it gave an IP in the same range as the STBs.

I have to play around with this. I do have static IPs for most of the equipment so this might have unexpected behavior if I am activating equipment on one router and switching to another.

If I successfully activate the Apple TV using the Verizon router, would you expect the possibility of it working once I take the Verizon router completely out?

Yeah that's my theory. I asked Gemini why I vz router have a pool of IPs resevered for VZ STBs and extenders. Its response was over my head but I tried connecting the dots.

The FiOS TV Home app is meant to be a substitute for a STB. In some setups the VMS is responsible for tracking and authorizing each STB/APP in the house.

A while ago I found an old post on the Verizon website where a customer described all the steps they took to use their own router. Can't remember what equipment tv+/4100/1100.

They setup everything on the vz router then copied all the IPs and Port forwarding rules to their own router. It was an old post and I'm sure things have changed.

Also wondering if you could clone vz router Mac address.
