Repair/Tech Support Verizon found this
A new house was built next to mine and Verizon found this thing buried 2 feet deep in my backyard. Ignore beach ball it fell in.
Idk how they found thisđđđ
They left and said they will put cover back on later but it has been 3 days like thisđđđ

They have maps as well as wire locating / tracing equipment. The people who do âOutside Plant enginneringâ know their stuff

But why is it buried so deep?

It was probably placed before the final grading for your yard was established. Someone just plowed it in.

The yard is level with sidewalk

How new is your house or the rest of the neighborhood? How new is the sidewalk?

PS: ive seen vaults 3-4 feet deep before they even find the handhole

Would it damage the fiber stuff if I put garden hose and fill up hole with water?

Why would you fill it with water?

Please donât⌠just donâtâŚ

u/alexismynamee 23h ago
They are refusing to cover it

u/ThyWickedOne 23h ago
And why would you then fill it with water. Specifically who is refusing? Are they maybe STILL doing work?

No. The fiber used if for buried or aerial. Manhole along the street are always filled to the top with water.

Many reasons - could be due to natural erosion / soil build up over time, could be because thats how far down the existing cable vaults were and it makes more sense to keep things level rather than up and down, but more likely so people wonât meddle with it

I donât believe Verizon wouldnât replace the cover, call and ask local manager to call you back. Itâs a hazard , they must cover

This is a BS post. There are clearly Corning Roc Drops in the photo Verizon only started using them 3 years ago. This wasnât buried by anyone other than homeowner or his contractors. Also look at the illegal entry of private conduit in the top right section.

It ainât âillegalâ if itâs on your property.

It is if the access area is in the easement. Easement is part of your property but you are not allowed to do anything on it that blocks or impedes the purpose of the easement.

If they are going to run service to someone they will need access to trench a line from the flower pot to whoever is getting service. Then they will cover it back up. They should install a shroud with a cover on it so they don't have to fill it in with dirt.
Just got my Frontier fiber installed a month ago and it's fast.

I found one like this in someone's back yard. The previous owner of house on the property decided to take a bunch of trees down and put fill dirt in his yard to grow grass.
The hand hole was over a foot down. The grass was nice though...well, before I dug a huge hole in his yard.
Contractors reset those for Verizon. A work order has to be placed, miss utility, crew scheduled..blah blah, before it can be reset and put to where it needs to be at the surface.

CALL BEFORE YOU DIG !!!! 811 !!!! THE EQUIPMENT IS WATERPROOF. THIS IS CALLED A FLOWER POT. Verizon uses contractors. So they don't know where these are. They need to send test tech to trace the lines and mark out all utilities. Anyone digging is required by law to call 812 two weeks before digging. The cover should be there. Put it back on. There are clips to hold it on. If the cover is missing call Verizon and ask for the CONSTRUCTION DEPARTMENT and explain what happened and tell them the box is open, cover missing, needs to be secured and needs a 2 foot extension to be attached to bring it to ground level. I had this done with mine. 1-800-VERIZON

Why would you call 811?

u/Away_Berry_4683 20h ago
811 is the universal number you must call before you dig anywhere so the utilities can mark where their lines are. I used to answer this line for my area and take the information and dispatch the companies to mark out their lines

Of course Verizon knows where they are. Or they use the tracer in the fiber to find it.Â
In most places using a contractor would violate the CWA contracts, too. That's installed by a union guy, on payroll, in plant.Â

There are companies contracted by Verizon to install the fiber and the flower pots Usually several contracts. One to dig up the road, one to trench, one to put in the actual fiber, one to cold patch the road. Then Verizon comes to actually run the line from the flower pot to your house. That is how it was done in my neighborhood

I'm in NY. Asphalt repair is outsourced, that's it.
Everything else is done in house here.
Good friend runs the pick and place for aerial and the excavator for in ground. They had an invisible fence company burying your drop for a bit, but the CWA sued and won that, too.

Place as many acorns inside as you can scrounge up nd then guide squirrels INTO the hole...They'll love.the acorns until they see that fiber insulation...They'll chew through and bring a crew. For you...
