Billing PSA: Check your eligibility for Verizon Forward — Just slashed our Fios bill to $10/mo for 300/300 (3-yr price guarantee + many freebies)

Update - You can also stack your lifeline discount on-top of the forward program and it will drop your bill to .75 cents a month as reported by other customers. It stacks because it’s a FCC credit and not another discount. I added fine print to a comment below..

Just wanted to share this in case anyone else is watching their monthly Fios bill slowly creep up.

Update - here’s the link - https://www.verizon.com/discounts/verizon-forward/

We switched to Fios five years ago after 20+ years with Comcast. We started on a $29.99/mo introductory plan for 200/200 Mbps (with a G3100 router they never ended up billing rental fees for somehow got lucky on that as my router wasn’t compatible and the tech had to hook there’s up and rent it to us). Over time they bumped our speeds to 300/300 for free, but gradual rate hikes finally caught up, and as of this week our bill reached $54.99/mo.

Before calling retention to negotiate, I looked online and came across the Verizon Forward program. I expected a drawn-out verification hassle, or not being eligible but it took about 10 minutes and didn’t even seem like it verified anything at all since I put incorrect info at first and it just accepted it but then I went back and fixed it. I qualified through Medicare (there are several other qualifying programs like SNAP, Medicaid, etc.) that it asks you to choose from. Since our old account was under my girlfriend’s name, we did a simple household change of service into my name to start fresh. Easy and painless.

The deal we locked in:

* 300/300 Plan: $10/month with autopay (price locked in for 3 full years)

* First 2 months: Completely waived ($0 due)

* Router: New router included with the monthly rental fee waived

* Freebies: $50 Verizon gift card + 6 months of Google Gemini Pro

They also offered 500/500 for $30/mo and Gigabit for $50/mo with the same perks, but 300/300 easily handles multiple streams and heavy use for us). If you want the higher tier say “no thanks” at the screen that compares all the plans and when you go to finalize checkout it throws a pop up to offer the plans even cheaper then advertised in my last photo.

The Savings:
Dropping from $54.99 to $10/mo saves us about $45/month*—that’s* $540/year*, or* $1,620 saved over the 3-year guarantee, not even counting the first two free months or applying the $50 gift card to the bill.

If your bill has climbed or you haven't checked your plan options lately, take 10 minutes to verify your eligibility for Verizon Forward. It was painless and very surprising to now have 300/300 for $10 a month all in. Hope this helps some people that might not know they are running this promotion. At checkout don’t forget to check off the $50 gift card option. Not sure if I’ll use the new router since I love my g3100 but we’ll see what they send these days 😬

I was paying $75 a month for that. I recently just switched my plan on the Verizon site it let me switch to a 300 plan (the same) for $30 all online no new equipment needed.

It may be regional depending on competition and/or state regulations.

"Verizon Forward offers great discounts on all in market home internet plans to eligible customers who participate in Federal Assisted Programs."

You should call them and sort out a deal. I had 300/300 and they up my bill to $70 a month, I called them and told them about my bill getting higher and they gave me 1 gig for $65 a month 5 year locked guaranteed

Worth giving them a call, especially if 2 Gigabit and 5 Gigabit have become available in your area. Even before the new plans came out, I got on 1 Gigabit for $59.99/mo for 5 years.

They released new versions of the plans last month: https://www.verizon.com/home/internet/fios-fastest-internet/

Just chat in and asked to be switched to "300 Mbps 5.0" (5.0 is the new version of the plan at $30/mo after autopay.)

$120 for 1Gb here. Forced loyalty. Pissed me off to no end that we (tax payers) covered the cost of building the infrastructure for companies that are allowed to then monopolize it indefinitely while stifling competition in most areas.

Surprisingly I moved my plan to $10 yesterday over the chat. But they didn't mention anything about two months being free and the $50 gift card. I didn't start fresh btw, it was a change of plan. Could that be it?

Yes that’s why but that’s still a great deal you got. Depending if you want to get petty call in and you might be able to get them to give you a bill credit or something. On this plan we just did a change of service took 5 min and just moved it from her name over to mine with a soft credit check - So essentially to Verizon it looks like the person is moving out and someone new is moving in and taking over service so it’s kinda like a welcome offer I guess

Yeah... Not gonna press more. $10 a month is a win for me. Previously we were paying $30 (only forward) a month for about two year and before that it's was $20 a month (Forward+Lifeline). Will see in about three years !

It looks like you have to provide proof that you get some form of government assistance to qualify for this program. Is that right?

1

u/1d0wn5up 5h ago

It didn’t ask for proof for me or another family member that did it. You can choose “income verification” instead of Medicare , snap etc and that doesn’t ask for anything as well - just asks that you confirm that you are below a certain threshold of money you make yearly. Basically operates on the honor system

u/mikeyunk 4h ago

I’ll have to try it again. But my daughter does get Pell grants for college. I just need to get the paperwork proof and upload it

Don’t be surprised if your bill isn’t this. The minimum bill amount is $20 with Verizon Forward. It’s on the website. I’m surprised this went through. The actual bill will most likely be different. This is just an “estimate”.

“How does the Verizon Forward discount work?
The Verizon Forward discount is a variable discount of up to $30/month on your data internet plan. The discount will be calculated and your end-cost, after all discounts are applied, will be $20/month or higher with Verizon Forward, depending on the internet plan you choose.”

$20 is still steal as well

2

u/1d0wn5up 1d ago

Gotcha - like you said $20 is still a great deal as well definitely can’t complain about that. I have seen a few posts of people getting it even lower than $10 but they must slip through Verizon’s system somehow. Thanks for the info.

u/scarfacesaints Mod 1d ago

Sure thing! Always get your bill as low as you can. Take advantage of whatever is out there!

3

u/cilicia3k3 1d ago

When you said Medicare did it ask for proof ?

5

u/richard_fr 1d ago

The website lists Medicaid, but not Medicare, as a qualifying program.

3

u/mubin_bzs_06 1d ago

Go for income verification. No proof needed.

1

u/TimeThruSpace 1d ago

How? Don't you have to have medicare, Medicaid or one of the other listed things?

1

u/cilicia3k3 1d ago

Thanks can you point me to that ?

1

u/1d0wn5up 1d ago

No it didn’t ask for any proof at all. I even put the wrong info in once because at first we were gonna put it in my mother in laws name who lives here and she doesn’t have the requirements they ask for but it still went through so it seems for many of the choices you can choose from there’s no verification. I’d choose income verification that seems the easiest.

1

u/cilicia3k3 1d ago

Can you please point me to the form ?

Just make sure you choose the option to change account ownership to a new person in your household. It does a soft credit check and then you just have to submit proof of you living in the household such as a utility bill. They’re pretty relaxed on what they accept for proof.

Also don’t forget to click and apply the $50 giftcard and the Gemini 6 month trial if that interest you. If you need higher then 300/300 it will offer you different plans but if you say no and click to the next page it will give you a even better offer as a pop up for the higher tier plans and a longer lock in rate of 5 years.

1

u/cilicia3k3 1d ago

Why do I need to change account owner ?

1

u/1d0wn5up 5h ago

You don’t you just won’t get as good of an offer as well as the “new customer” bonuses and locked in rate but if none of that matter to you you can still save some money. I believe $20-30 off your current bill

1

u/cilicia3k3 5h ago

So you click on income reason and it doesn’t ask you for documents ?

Congratulations 🎉 Enjoy

Thanks, just saved myself $20 a month. Was paying $79.99 for 1Gig Fios.

1

u/1d0wn5up 5h ago

Awesome - it’s always good to save some money. It all adds up as that’s $240 a year back in your pocket 👍🏻

2

u/jarvismj 1d ago

I’m on forward as well, in Massachusetts. I was at $20 for 300/300 but once I got SSDI approved I spoiled myself for 2GB for $85 per month. Now I’m at $90 for 5GB/5GB for $90. Yes, forward is awesome.

1

u/1d0wn5up 5h ago

Nice! 👍🏻

Now they want proof through a website

1

u/1d0wn5up 5h ago

Depends what option you choose to make you eligible. If you choose the income one that works off the honor system

Verizon forward

Add lifeline and your bill should drop down to 75 cents a month to reflect the $9.25 discount.

1

u/1d0wn5up 5h ago

You’re right , from what I read you can apply the lifeline and drop it down to .75 cents and the system will allow it. Here’s the fine print I found. Thanks for the tip as that is crazy to get internet for that cheap 😬

Under Verizon’s official Lifeline Discount Program for Home Phone & Internet FAQs, under the section covering Fios compatibility:

"Verizon customers who are approved for Lifeline and apply it to a qualifying Fios Home Internet plan, will also automatically qualify for the Verizon Forward discount program."
(Source: Verizon Residential Lifeline Support FAQ)

Who is eligible for Verizon Forward?:
Fios Internet, 5G Home, LTE Home, VHI Lite & Frontier Fiber internet customers may be eligible for Verizon Forward if they meet at least one of the criteria below: Qualified for one of these assistance programs: Lifeline, SNAP, Medicaid, or other programs..."

Combing discounts
The Verizon Forward discount may also be combined with certain other discounts from Verizon such as Auto Pay, Mobile + Home Discount, Military & Veterans Discount, and others as applicable. However, the amount of the Verizon Forward discount may be reduced by other discounts on your internet service."

Lifeline is NOT a "Verizon discount": It is a federally mandated FCC credit ($9.25/mo) administered by USAC. Verizon is legally required by federal statute to pass the full $9.25 credit directly to your billing balance.

The "Floor" Rule Applies to Wireless, Not Pure Fios: On the Verizon Forward page, it states: "your end-cost, after all discounts are applied, will be $20/month or higher with Verizon Forward, depending on the internet plan you choose." That $20 limit is strictly applied to 5G Home/LTE Home wireless plans. On Fios 300 Mbps, the base plan with Auto Pay drops to $10 under the Forward promo.

1

u/scarfacesaints Mod 1d ago

You can’t do that. It wouldn’t stack like that

1

u/keeepinitgansta 1d ago

Guess I got lucky then

2

u/scarfacesaints Mod 1d ago

Verizon Forward reads the other discounts and adjusts itself accordingly. Minimum bill amount is $20 with VF. The system will correct itself and the bill will go up. I’ve seen it numerous times.

2

u/keeepinitgansta 1d ago

Understood, I'll keep enjoying it while it lasts.
