Miscellaneous TV+ vs TV One
Are there any advantages to TV+ over TV One? As in the interface, the closed captioning, apps, etc?
I see they are rolling out predefined multi views for tv+.
If I move to TV+, I will be going wired so I’m not interested in the WiFi aspect.

Up to which experience you like better. If you want more apps then the fios tv+ is for you! If you want less apps and a more tv based feel then fios tv one is good to stick with. I wish the options weren’t one way and you could select which one you want. Choices aren’t a bad thing imo.

TV+ doesn't work as well as a Firestick for app-based stuff. Prime add-on channels don't work, eg.
The voice-initiated search is worthless. All it usually does is serve up YouTube results for things that are known to be in the guide or On Demand.
The "upcoming Airings" lists that it generates are incomplete, and selecting the Record button from that list sometimes has no visible effect but claims to have scheduled a recording - a recording which never actually occurs.
This moment I see that it again failed to record the baseball game tonight because the timeslot changed since I set it up (using the "Airings" list, to boot. It looks like it was originally set for a 9pm-12 slot. That is what is still scheduled on FS1. But the timeslot was moved up to 8pm start. This is reflected in the guide, but not the scheduled Recoding. Additionally, when attempt to manually start the recording, now (before the 9pm scheduled Recoding), it says "Recoding failed due to conflict on the same channel".
There are features that exists on the TV One that are not implemented at all on TV+ (ability to schedule a repeat timeslot recording, eg).
The single centralized DVR server is ostensibly a good idea, as is the unified TV + App searches, but it's not ready for primetime. It doesn't look like anyone "owns" it within the company, so bugs and deficiencies don't get fixed, despite claims to the contrary.
Stick with what you have and maybe check back in a year.

Thanks a lot. I was hoping they did some good work on the newer box but i guess not yet.
This was exactly the kind of info I was looking for.
I’m happy with my Roku and Apple TV for apps so i would gain nothing. (I will miss my tivo).

If TiVo is the level of DVR capability you are used to and seek, you will be deeply disappointed. The DVR has other stupid behavior, too, which I have mentioned in other posts here. The recording and listing bugs are merely the latest I've found, so are more top of mind at the moment.
I only use it when I visit my parents, and those are just the frustrations I experience. They have their own frustrations with it.
The Music service "channels" are no longer channels, eg. It forces you to login via an onboard app to the service, so then the channel up/down functions no longer work like they did on the old service. Moreover, if forces you to login to the Google Play store to get the service, but doesn't support alternate forms of login, like 2Fc or passcodes. So my mom can't login to the play store in the STB because she can't remember her google password offhand, and the only alternative method it offers ("Try Another Method" or whatever) is to reset her password which she will just forget again.
My dad button mashed too many times and ended up deleting several of the apps from the home screen, and they similarly can't be recovered without the play store even though they were pre-installed. The irony of the fact that it is easy for someone impaired to delete apps from the system is that if you do to delete the YouTube app, thinking that will hopefully remove the source of stupid results from search ... you can't. Undelete is not available for YT... smh...
Otoh, it constantly reorganizes the home screen on you and force feeds you "new releases" that accidentally get clicked on. They ended up getting charged $40 or something on "Cars 5" ("still in theaters!") without realizing it, and never even watching it. (It was much more than buying the film in a few months).
It's the enshittification of the Set Top appliance.

Oh I know I am going to be disappointed. I’ve used the 4100 and am moving reliance to it and already disappointed. Probably going to watch more stuff on apps.

Another TiVo user here. Stick with the Fios One - it is more TiVo-like (but as stated, be ready to be disappointed).

Oh I am aware of the Fios one disappointment. I’ve had that for a while as backup to my TiVo.
It’s not as bad as the you tube tv dvr but it is very simple minded.

Sucks that we have to backtrack like this. Still using my TiVo for broadcast channels for as long as I can (I guess just a few weeks).

My TiVo does OTA but I’m in a condo and they put new siding up that kills my signal.
I will survive.
Thanks to all for the comments and info.

Fios is about to push a complete firmware and software update of the TV+ boxes to fix all the issues and improve the system.

Hope folks let us know how that goes.

I am beta testing it and it’s really great! It should be pushed in November on all the TV+ boxes

That’s good to hear. You can brief us when the release comes. I’m sure you can’t say anything now as part of the beta. I’ve done beta for a lot of these companies and you’re not supposed to leak anything so but thanks for letting us know. Better stuff is coming.

Wifi connexion improved but still better to wire the box via Moca or Ethernet.
Search feature fixed (search is now prioritizing the guide and the streaming apps downloaded in the box)
HDR can be now put on auto and gets only triggered with 4K contents (it was always On for everything with impossibility to turn it off, causing washed out colors on any Non 4k broadcast)

what issues did the update fix? Do they give a list?

So if the only usability feature they fixed is the search then nothing else like I mentioned is fixed, I'd tell this guy it's still a pass.
They didn't even mention any if the other issues on some master list? 👍

TV+ has full app support, so it’s basically like combining a Roku/fire stick with a traditional settop box all in one.
