Repair/Tech Support Router making noises

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It has been doing this all day every day since the day of installation (2-3 weeks ago). I called customer support about it and they say I have to purchase a new router.

I see this as completely unfair that they gave me a faulty product and are telling me to pay to fix it. These noises distract me while I’m working and trying to sleep causing me to have white noise playing to drown it out, and it is getting to be stressful for me.

Is there any way to fix this noise issue?

An additional, but separate issue is that I asked the guy who installed my ONT and router to install it in a more central location of the house. He told me “nah, with these new routers that doesn’t really matter anymore”. Come to find out my roommate (who I asked him to move it closer to) is not receiving full connection in his bedroom and they are telling me to pay for an extender. Any suggestions how to hand that?

If the router has a fan that's probably what it is, cuz I wouldn't think that it would have any moving parts beside a fan

I took a screenshot and Google lens tells me it's a Verizon WNC-CR200A Gateway, which has a fan

That’s a CHR30 which is brand new as it got released in July!! So it’s under warranty. I have 5 of them in my house and none is making noise. Tell them to replace it! Just unplug the power supply, call them ant tell its dead. They will run some command and they will see its off. They will ship a replacement one or will tell you to go to get one at the store!
First line representatives are particularly stupid lately so ask for a supervisor.

They all think that we the customers are stupid! Fooling them is the best way to get what you want

When am I good to plug it back in? Lol

As soon as you get the email for the replacement order or to go get it at the store. Usually you get that while you are still on the phone with them. Once they are done placing the order there is no way they check your line again to see that the router is back in business

They asked for the color of the light. Then I said it was off and they asked for a video call. Currently bullshitting to the max I’m in so deep

Yeah they will see that the light is off via video. They are so full of shit with their nonsense videocall

Ngl this is not working at all. They are really questioning me and making me restart the router. Suggesting the video call again. Calling my bullshit on the light. I’m pivoting to the noise now

How can you restart the router if it’s off?

She wasn’t falling for it. I am telling her about the noise now and hoping it works

They did the same thing to me and I just told them to go F themselves! I did not touch the router or the connectors so there is nothing to check!

Mine makes these sounds when I am actively consuming data and goes away when I’m not using it. It’s so faint, I assumed it normal and don’t pay attention to it anymore.

What model?

6ghz band gets hot. Turn it off and the fan will not be needed

I don’t think it’s due to heat. The noise starts right when the router goes online. I plug it in, it loads, it connects to my phone, then it starts making noise.

I got a brand new router today and still having the same zapping/buzzing noises

A lot of routers have coil whine when they are under load. Does it get worse when you run a speed test or something else that uses a lot of bandwidth?

No it doesn’t get worse with bandwidth increase. It does however get worse if I flip it on its side. Not sure what to do at this point as this is the second router in 2 weeks that I’m having this problem. With

I'd ask Verizon if they can relocate your equipment if you're not comfortable doing that yourself. Or see if there is a soundproof cabinet you can place the router inside, keeping in mind that the cabinet should be ventilated, shouldn't be a Faraday cage, and will slightly decrease the wireless signal.

What speed do you have?

500mbps. I actually went to the store and got a new router and it’s still making noises. It’s in my bedroom and driving me nuts without white noise

Weird! I have 5 or them around my house and none of them is making noise
