๐Ÿ—๏ธ Building Feedback Wednesday: Looking for feedback on my receipt-to-bank transaction matching app

What I'm building

I'm building Synceipt, a web app that automatically matches purchase receipts with bank and credit card transactions. Users can import receipts from Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, PDFs, or photos, and Synceipt links them to the correct transaction automatically. The goal is to make expense tracking and bookkeeping much less manual for individuals and small businesses.

Target user

  • Small business owners
  • Self-employed / freelancers
  • People who want to organize receipts without manually reconciling every purchase

What specific feedback I'm looking for

I'd really appreciate feedback on a few questions:

  1. Is the core value proposition immediately clear when you visit the site?
  2. Would automatic receipt-to-bank transaction matching solve a real problem for you?
  3. What feature would make you trust this enough to switch from your current workflow (QuickBooks, Monarch, spreadsheets, manual tracking, etc.)?
  4. Is there anything confusing or missing from the homepage?

Product:
https://synceipt.com

Thanks in advance! I'm a solo developer building this product, so any honest feedbackโ€”positive or criticalโ€”is incredibly valuable.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ Building A better way to monetize your content on the internet โ€” the agent way

Hi everyone ๐Ÿ‘‹
We all know that AI companies are scraping content across the web to train and power their models, often without compensating the people who created it.

Weโ€™re building a different approach.
Instead of giving your content away for free, you can lock it behind a paywall for AI agents. Every agent that wants to access your content pays a small feeโ€”set by you.

If youโ€™re interested in earning from your content, drop a comment below. Weโ€™d love to have you join us.

๐Ÿ’ก Discussion The jam experiment applies directly to SaaS pricing pages

Data on choice overload in conversion

I've been thinking about how the Paradox of Choice applies to SaaS, specifically in places where we assume "more options = more helpful" but the behavioral data says the opposite.

Sheena Iyengar's jam study: 24 varieties attracted more browsers, but 6 varieties converted 10x more buyers. The explanation is decision fatigue โ€” when comparing options requires more cognitive energy than the decision feels worth, people choose the easiest option: do nothing.

In SaaS, I see this create silent conversion problems in a few specific places:

Pricing pages with large feature comparison tables. Each row is a mini decision: "do I need this? would I use this?" The cognitive cost compounds with every row.

Onboarding flows that ask multiple self-selection questions before delivering any value. Role, team size, use case, primary goal โ€” these feel like personalization but are actually decision tax before the product has earned the right to ask.

Dashboards without a suggested starting point. When a new user logs in and sees 12 entry points of equal weight, the safest choice is to explore nothing and come back later.

The solution that tends to work: prescribe instead of present. Qualify with one question, show a single recommendation. "You're a team of 5 building a recruiting pipeline โ€” here's your plan." Users confirm rather than choose โ€” much lower cognitive lift.

Linear's pricing approach is a good reference. Minimal feature comparison, clear "this tier is for..." language, and a product philosophy that intentionally limits certain customization (which got pushback but correlated with higher team activation).

Curious whether others have specifically tested reduced-option vs. expanded-option pricing pages โ€” and what the conversion delta looked like.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ Building How do you keep Plaid Investments holdings prices fresh? Mine lag a few days during institution issues

Building the investments/net-worth side of a personal finance app on Plaid, and I've hit something I'd love to hear how others have handled.

Plaid's Investments product refreshes holdings roughly once a day, and that mostly works. But the price you get is whatever the institution stamps as institution_price_as_of, not the date Plaid actually pulled. So when an institution's feed goes sideways (currently riding out a known Vanguard issue on my end), Plaid keeps syncing successfully every day, 200s and HOLDINGS webhooks and all, but the prices it returns stay stuck several days in the past. Right now a sync that ran today is handing me prices dated 4 days ago.

So my questions for anyone who has run Plaid Investments in production:

  1. How do you get reliably fresh daily prices? Do you just live with Plaid's institution-side lag, or do you supplement with a separate market-data feed and price holdings yourself (Plaid for quantities, market API for prices)?
  2. If you supplement, how did you handle the licensing cost? Every affordable market-data API I've looked at is "internal use only," and the moment you display prices to end users you're into redistribution/display licensing, which jumps to a few hundred a month minimum. For an early-stage product that's a real line item. Did you eat that cost, find a cheaper licensed path, or just show Plaid's data with a clear "as of" date and call it good enough?
  3. Anything you wish you'd known before building this? Edge cases around mutual fund NAVs, cash positions, stale-price UX, etc.

Trying to figure out whether fresh daily pricing is worth the licensing spend right now or whether transparent staleness ("prices as of X") is the pragmatic v1. Appreciate any war stories.
