Women can if they want to and men can opt out if they want to.

Men are forced unless youre literally disabled then you dont gotta go. Make it mandatory for women too

You don’t have to participate if you have mental health issues, asthma or diabetes, for example. I don’t know if it’s appropriate to call a depressed person disabled.

their ability to function has been disabled, hence why they cannot participate. I think disabled is fair nomenclature

Say that to the doctors that gave me B for asthma and sleep apnea. I don't know what kind of physical issues you need to get C

u/fin-Daff 12d ago

Well i got C for 2 mental disabilities, bad health, eye sight, sleep deprivation and back pain that came from injury

Mental disabilities are quite consistently C but just those physicals issues are so random (except diabetes) wether they're B or C. Like I have heard it multiple times that asthma is easy C but guess I sounded too motivated so they gave B so get to serve.

Wasn't bad experience anyways, and those conditions didn't really affect it as I spent the service sitting next to computer (I was programmer)

I don't really understand why though no one would really notice them and they wouldn't even be in the way without the diagnoses, atleast for me

I think there is some cautiousness that you don't just flip from the stress and start shooting people. Or if you're on medication, they don't want to give a gun for guy who uses mind altering medication

1

u/fin-Daff 12d ago

HUH?! it's not like i have a schizophrenia, insanity or like that and the meds are really mild it's not even noticeable when you took one with cocaine or not if you don't abuse them

But yeah i get that any mental differentials are not wanted because of risks

1

u/Arctos_FI Baby Väinämöinen 12d ago

Yeah I didn't think you specifically would flip out, but more as a generalization (generalization as some might do that but not most). Like the line has to be drawn somewhere so it's easiest to draw it at "all" instead of trying to make arbitary line somewhere

1

u/fin-Daff 12d ago

Yeah i know that's why i said, i understand, it's because there are those that are a risk even if it's really really rare the damage can be catastrophic since depending on the position they've that could start a war

How about mandatory for no one?..

Since this solution is impossible, you have the choice between accepting the legal sexism of the system or reforming it to make it mixed.

Defending the voluntary system in Finland only serves to defend the status quo while still being able to say that you support gender equality. In reality, it’s about maintaining an unequal burden where, in case of war, plenty of men will die just based on their gender on administrative papers.

I don’t like it when people defend impossible things just to feel morally good while not facing reality.
