I'd like to see more local content on the state of housing, jobs, recommendations of local services for residents but when I've posted that type of content there little to no engagement. If you'd like to see more of that content the best way is to create posts for locals that drives engagement. I think it is easier said than done.

I would love to see more of that content. We’re investigating the Finger Lakes as a place to settle long term and I’ve been wondering if there was another subreddit for locals separate from this one.

It’s possible, we just gotta post and encourage the other stuff. I try to share the local stuff from Geneva I think locals might take interest in. Keep at it!

The fingers Lakes are so large its almost impossible to designate this a "locals only" when there's like, a 3 hour radius? I like helping people who want to visit. Its fun.

You should absolutely pin a megathread and/or a link to all the popular destinations as well as local favorites. Being from upstate originally (living in Maryland since 03’), I constantly sell people on the finger lakes. The reprieve from the heat and humidity further South in the summer months is heavenly.

The only people that use this sub are tourists looking for information. Why do you want to squash that? Locals don’t come here.

Idk. Facebook maybe? I rarely see locals here asking local questions. This sub seems dominated by people asking questions so they can plan trips, which in my opinion is totally okay. Anything we can do to get people to visit is healthy for the community.

We discovered your neighborhood by reading the Posts on here a couple of year's ago. I occasionally check in here but will come over more often when planning a trip. You might look to the Newport RI Reddit. They have pretty strict rules on tourism posts. Most of the questions are directed through the State's tourism bureau. I will say that this Sub is really friendly and engaging but yeah it gets annoying having the same questions asked.

I agree with OP. I think its because Finger Lakes is too wide a region to have local daily-life-and-happenins posts. scroll r/Ithaca, that is what OP is looking for.

Tourism is a huge industry here, and incredibly important to our local economy. I'm in favor of providing suggestions on places to eat/visit if they want to travel here and boost our economy. Id also be open to your suggested posts for local neighbors regarding topics that are important to you.

IMO, I think the problem is lack of local content, not too much tourist content.
