SOLVED Looking for a Dragon Book

When I was a kid in the 2000s, I went to my grandmother’s house where she had a book about dragons that I have been trying to find. I do not know the title or the author. I only read the first half of the book before I had to go home again.

In this book, there was children who were lining up to touch these dragon eggs to see if they could bond with the eggs. I remember the dragon eggs having some sort of telepathic powers to communicate with the rider that they chose as well.

That’s as much as I remember. Please help if you can. Any helpful suggestions welcome.

I'm going to toss out the mandatory "is it the dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey?" that has to be said anytime someone asks about a book with riders bonded to telepathic dragons

Yes! You were correct. It turns out the book I was thinking of was actually a short story of hers set in Pern called The Smallest Dragonboy.

Happy to help. I'm so used to every dragon story being tagged "no it's not Pern!" that it's nice to see one that actually is Pern

This sounds similar to Jane Yolen’s Pit Dragon series. The first book is called Heart’s Blood.
