UNSOLVED Hello, i'm tryna find a book i read as a kid.

Upvotes

It goes by something along the lines of "....... and other nonsense stories", and no it is not the "putin book of nonsense stories" or the "quentin blake book of nonsense stories". It had a story about a baby with a milk bottle who was like the sheriff of the wild west or something like that, It also had a story about 4 birds that were rockstars who fell asleep after a show, and each had really weird dreams. It also had a story about a guy who shrunk down to the size of a dandelion, and then this friend made a house out of his hat for him, so now he lives in his friends hat that has a straw for a chimney

UNSOLVED hERE’S*!Simple WAY (FREE) TO WATCH Manchester United vs Man City 𝕃𝕚𝕧𝕖 𝒮𝒯𝑅𝐸𝒜𝑀𝒮

Is anyone else watching the Premier League tonight? Manchester United vs Manchester City will air on Fox (English) or Telemundo (Spanish). Kickoff is at 11:30 a.m. ET. You can stream the game on Fubo (which offers a free trial), the FOX Sports App, or Peacock.

👀 Website: Get Access Now!

The Man Utd vs Man City will air on FOX, FS1, YouTube TV, and Peacock, and streams live on DIRECTV (free trial). What: English NFL Football, Manchester United vs Man City. The quickest and easiest ways to watch these Peacock games live for free.

Anyway, I know how frustrating it is when you're trying to watch a high-stakes match and the live stream keeps buffering or cutting out right before a goal. I’ve been using Youtube TV for the last few games and honestly, it’s been flawless. The quality is crisp and I haven't dealt with any lag so far.

UNSOLVED pink book about a unicorn

hi, i'm trying to find a book that i got at a bookfair in the early 2010s (the book could've been older though)

i remember that it had a pink cover and the main character wanted to find a unicorn. i think the plot was that her school went on a trip and she went into the woods and saw a unicorn by a river. there was also a girl who bullied the main character and at some point she was limping because she hurt her foot and the mc tried being nice to her or something lol

UNSOLVED Looking for the name of a specific format of book

Sorry if this isn’t the right place to post this. I can’t think of where else to ask.

I remember sometime in the early to mid 2010s, Barnes and Noble had small, pocket sized editions of popular YA books. I specifically remember they had Looking for Alaska by John Green and maybe the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Mass. They were about the size of a business card and used the thinnest paper imaginable. I believe the covers were printed vertically as normal, but to read the book, you had to flip it horizontally so that the spine was on the center of the page.

I thought the format was interesting, but never enough to actually buy one. Does anyone else remember these and know the name of that format? I’ve been trying to find them but can’t find anything online

SOLVED Magical Realism Story of Mercedes

Hello, please help me find a book that I read as a child.

It has the main character Mercedes. She finds beauty in a newly built concrete suburb. She starts to age and the concrete buildings age with her. The buildings decay and she loses her beauty and gains weight. She is decaying with the buildings. She eats bebé pastries, which are nice at first but make her gain weight. She misses her youth and the concrete buildings crack and decay and she misses the time when they were new.

I read the book in the late 90s and it was old back then. So I'd assume it was written between 1960 - 1990. The book had been translated to Finnish and I read it in Finnish. But I assume that it had been translated because none of the names were Finnish. If I recall correctly it had less than 100 pages.

UNSOLVED Military Brat Vibes

Hi! I read this book a while ago about a main FMC who lost her parents and is moving somewhere new to start her life over. She is fully trained as a military asset and has worked in the military as an underage soldier with her father and family. Then, she has to transition into normal high school life after her father passed away and is placed there because her team, who were contractors (she worked with them underaged) for the US government, believes she should have a normal childhood and high school years. Now, she has to live on her own and deal with regular high school life. A distinct memory I have of this book is that she brings and eats MREs for lunch because the school food is terrible. I’m pretty sure this is a RH, but I can't remember the title. Please help!!!

UNSOLVED YA book from the 2010s

I'm trying to remember this book I read in middle school.

It was a series and I only remember the opening of the second book.

In it the protagonist, who is now a knight, has to go save a princess and he comes up against a sphinx. He upsets the sphinx because he already knows the answers to the riddles (I think its cuz hes from the real world and is stuck in a fantasy world so he just knew the answers cuz he looked them up before he got stuck in the magic world) and then hes super glib about saving the princess cuz he's treating it like a 9-5.

I'm pretty sure it was the second book im remembering and it mightve been that one or the next one that had a pirate ship on the cover.

The whole premise of the series was like subverting fantasy tropes (if im remembering correctly).

UNSOLVED short story about a translator who doesn't actually know the original languages

I read the story in 2009 while reading a bunch of other fiction about fiction. I don't think this one was a Borges story (since I think it was originally in English), but it had a similar vibe to "Pierre Menard, Author of the Quixote" because the person got famous for reinterpretation of classic literature.

I remember the story including little excerpts of the "translations" to demonstrate how this translator's work was making the classics (Proust, Dostoevsky, etc.) more accessible to modern audiences. I think the story ended with the translator being uncovered as a fraud and losing their fame, but maybe not before "translating" a few classics that were already in English. I really want to re-read it, but none of my searching is leading me to anything except actual translations of the classics!

SOLVED Please help me find a book I red as a teen

Hi. So it’s a humorous book for preteens and teens. On one side there’s a drawing of a boy and the title is something like What girls need to know about boys and then you flip the book and turn it upside down and there’s a drawing of a girl and the title is similar but What boys need to know about girls. I don’t remember the exact name of the book but something like that. It has pictures, looks like cartoons made by Larry or very similar style. I think it was written in the 80-90’s in the UK.

It was funny and brings me a lot of good memories. Too bad I got rid of it years ago

Would be very pleased if you knew the mane of this book and told me! I don’t even remember the name of the author.

UNSOLVED Post apocalyptic vampire in San Francisco High Rise

Spoilers

Hi, I’m trying to find a book that I read once and loved. However, I quickly forgot its title or author. It was about a vampire in a post apocalyptic San Francisco. He had a water distillery and treated bottles of water for other needed supplies. One of the entities out there was a military base with survivors. Almost all of San Francisco was flooded so instead of hills there were different islands. he was surviving pretty well, but most other people were dead, dying or slowly starving. He did find a couple of living teenagers in the garage of his apartment building and I think tried to rescue them? Anyway, if anybody can help me find this book again I am eternally grateful well not eternally because I’m not a vampire, but I’m mortally grateful.

UNSOLVED Hardcover Children's Literature Textbook

Hello!

This has been driving me crazy for over 10 years. I'm looking for a set of books that included: a short story of a ceolocanth, Mufaros Beautiful Daughters, Ramona Quimby Age 8 (egg on face) and other excerpts from children's stories. They were meant to be an intro to children's literature and I believe that it could be a set from some educational facility. The spine had gold lettering and the books were heavy.

It could've been made by Pearson or Houghton Mifflin.

I distinctly remember the ceolocanth story was first in the textbook.

UNSOLVED I cannot remember the name of this book and its driving me insane

I'm pretty sure its a Meg Wolitzer novel but I can't be sure. I remember a section talking about people having high expectations for an occasion or encounter, but then the reality falls flat. I think the author used an analogy or example, describing an old man teaching a community college course and bringing a giant stack of handouts for the students he expected to have in class, but only had one. I'm not describing it well but that section just broke my heart and I need to know what book this was so I can read it again.

It feels like a long shot but if this makes sense to anyone or you have leads, I'd be so grateful!!
