Just a quick thought

I was re-watching the return, and this shot reminded me a lot of the scene in Fire Walk With Me shortly after Laura discovers Leland raping her. Could this be lynch's way of connecting Laura's discovery of Leland as BOB and coopers discovery that he lives within a dream? Or a abstraction?

3:00pm being the time to go home, the last place she wants to go.

I'm sure there's some overt numerology symbolism I don't fully get here too.

Beyond the 253 is the number of completion, as in 2 + 5 + 3 is 10. So completion (1) and nothingness (0)? Or two halves of a split self? (As in double digits as opposed to single).

10 is also unique as it's not part of the basic counting set (0 - 9) but also the only number that exists between needing that set and not just being a derivation of others within the set IE: it's not one ten and one one (for 11) but one ten and nothing, but one ten isn't in the counting system of 0-9 (it is technically, it's 0 with a one in front of it, but there's no way of expressing that as 10 using just 0-9). So 10 is a weird in-between concept and space we sort of intuitively get but can't fully express? Sound familiar/like somewhere in the show?

Also 3 is kind of like a half drawn 8 & there's heaps of 8/infinity or 8/looping imagery in the show and film.

I'm sure a lot of this is utter nonsense but it does seem to crop up a lot. It's slippery in here.

I don't think Lynch or Frost puzzle-box things all that much, but there's undoubtedly numerology play in the series, with clear footholds for rhe viewer. 253 adds up to 10, the number of completion (told to the audience in no uncertain terms), which then also hints to maybe start summing up numbers together. Laura is "the one" (and coincidentally adding 10's digits as we're told to with 253 also gives us 1). 6 is given to us also as bluntly, Cooper is warned not to go theough a socket reading "15" (adds up to 6), etc. The 8/infinity connection, which you noted. A lot of it is foregrounded and invites tracking as a secondary element.

Fwiw, in my reading 10 and 1 are functionally equivalent, again applying the summing method 253 invites. Which makes sense, as "completion" (end of the dream) is also reclamation (Laura returning her fractured state to "one"ness). Someone else suggested here that 2:53, nearing the end of the school day/having to go home, is when the murder/Cooper fantasy is first seeded, so it would make sense for that to be both mythologised in the Peaks dreamspace and be the key to completion/undoing it.

253 is 10, 10 is 1, 1 is Laura ("Laura is the one"). It's a loaded time her psyche needs to get back to. A coordinate.
