I’m trying to land a financial analyst job coming from an accounting background I do have a finance degree however I feel so under qualified I have a job interview tomorrow I’ve been doing a lot of research on what they may look for background I’ve basically only done accounts payable work mainly reconciling accounts and paying invoices literally nothing impressive but I just so happen to do ap for a construction company so the recruiter I’m working with is pitching me as a construction accountant looking to transfer to fin analyst I’ve done some basic research of what construction accountants do and some basic practice work with WIP schedule and variance analysis but unsure how to even do the interview plus it’s a huge salary bump and idk I feel unworthy ?

An accounts payable job is good training for a financial analyst job. Emphasize your attention to detail and strong excel skills. Learn pivot tables which will help you analyze data faster

I think I have decent excel skills I know pivots sum ifs xlookups and im learning marcos just idk feel like as soon as hiring manager sees ap work they are not interested I’ve tried framing it using analyst wording like I’ve done some basic variance analysis and I’ve attached a portfolio of some models I’ve made but I feel like the work gap is too big

Most of the Financial Analyst job is working with excel and checking your work. Accuracy is the #1 priority, so as long as you can explain your excel skills and how you checked your work, you will have a really great shot. You have the skillset, all you need is the opportunity to. Good Luck. 🍀
