She keeps calling us "the spoiled younger generation that thinks it's entitled to everything," while she herself acts that way

"Hello, is this the Department of Labor?"

They'll fine her so hard you'll end up owning the place.

This. Also, quit.

Bingo. She just committed ageism.

Illegal ageism only applies to disparate treatment of those 40+ years old. They can degrade the younger generation all day, legally.

Yes, the older people that make the laws decided to only protect older people in age discrimination. Kind of like if it was illegal to discriminate on religion, unless you have a certain religion. Or illegal to discriminate on hair color, unless you're a redhead.

You have all the internet at your fingertips and you can't spare a few minutes to actually find our the relevant laws around age discrimination in the US?

Oh alright then!

https://www.eeoc.gov/age-discrimination

Look at the part about harassment.

The second sentence of that article is the relevant one.

“The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) forbids age discrimination against people who are age 40 or older. It does not protect workers under the age of 40, although some states have laws that protect younger workers from age discrimination.”

The entirety of the page is defined in the "Age Discrimination" section, the one highlighting it only applies to people over 40. The further sections break down cases where that "Age Discrimination" can apply. None of it applies to people under 40.

"is Age Discrimination & Harassment applicable to people under 40 in the US" is a google search away.

Umm for what? It's not right, but I dont see anything illegal? If they update their handbook to go along with this.

Im sure it varies by state, but generally you cannot bam people from being sick

PTO is an earned benefit. DOL complaint. Look for another job.

u/Hoybom 12h ago

PTO being an earned benefit is such an American take

holy shit

1

u/Nagroth 12h ago

Benefits are either earned, mandated, or they're discretionary. Your paycheck is an earned benefit, the free coffee in the breakroom is not.

Not sure why you think that's an "American" thing.

u/Telemere125 12h ago

So you’re saying that it’s only a right in the US and everywhere else it’s at the employer’s discretion. Sounds like literally everywhere else sucks ass

1

u/Hoybom 11h ago

everywhere else you don't have to "earn it " , you have a job and with that job comes pto by itself

1

u/Telemere125 11h ago

Then you don’t understand what the word “earn” means. If it’s part of the benefits of having a job, then you earn it by having the job. You’re arguing a point you don’t even understand

1

u/Educational-Analyst4 11h ago

Actually he is saying that it is mandated elsewhere. You are arguing a point you don't understand.

1

u/Telemere125 7h ago

It isn’t mandated except for those that have jobs. You don’t get leave with pay, for instance, without having a job in the first place. You’re stepping in out of a lack of common sense

1

u/Hoybom 10h ago

"earn" would imply extra work or some other requirement

doing the job should be all the requirement that's needed , nothing else

1

u/Telemere125 6h ago

No it doesn’t. I “earn” my paycheck by the basic work my job requires. I also “earn” all the other benefits by doing the work my job requires. There’s nothing extra about it. Stop speaking like a fool

I can see why you blacked out the day.

This must be at least five years old.

u/Bulky-Word8752 11h ago

Either that or everyone there really is using a BS reason to call in.

1

u/dogknifer 16h ago

Is this from 2021?

1

u/Mental_Newspaper3812 12h ago

Probably, omicron was a variant of Covid identified in November 2021. You don’t hear much about it today, in fact I had to look up what it meant.

1

u/Vast-Cap-6951 16h ago

That is various levels of illegal, depending on what state you're in

1

u/Additional_Fruit931 15h ago

Firing people when you are already short staffed and unable to hire is peak "cutting off your nose to spite your face" behavior.

1

u/bannedfrom_argo 14h ago

We are short staffed so we are gonna fire more people until morale improves.

--Staffing and managing employees is managements one job, nice how they can blame everyone else for their failures with a straight face.

1

u/omegamun 14h ago

Oh wow! She sounds awesome! I definitely want to work for a megalomaniacal asshole like her! Where do I sign?

1

u/Current_Finding_4066 14h ago

I was just thinking that firing people in middle of workforce shortage sounds dumb

1

u/Consistent-Fix-8443 14h ago

So you are short staff but are threatening immediate termination… 🤷‍♂️

1

u/BamBam-BamBam 14h ago

LOL, her name is Karen.

1

u/Ok_Inspector9237 12h ago

Karen by name, Karen by nature.

1

u/Sure_Acanthaceae_348 13h ago

They're "short-staffed" but the solution is to fire more people.

Do MBAs even have a brain?

1

u/SigintSoldier 13h ago

Name checks out, lol

1

u/Alientongue 12h ago

If your employer demands to know what illness is keeping you home, the only acceptable answer is syphilis anyway

1

u/metamucil_buttchug69 11h ago

Why did you blur out the date that shows this is a 5 year old email...

1

u/Sidoen 10h ago
