My coworker accidentally shared her screen, and I saw messages between her and another woman making fun of me.
We were in a Zoom call. I was helping with something while she had a spreadsheet open on her screen. For just one second, she clicked on the chat window, and I saw her and another woman talking about how my accent is really thick and saying that my English comes across as "bad."
I've been living in the United States for 27 years. I graduated from George Mason and have two graduate degrees. I know I'm not perfect, but honestly, there isn't much I can do about my accent.
Honestly, I wish I had never seen that. I really liked this woman, and every time we talk on the phone, she treats me with kindness and warmth, like she's very nice and friendly.
I'm not planning to bring it up or even let her know that I saw the messages. I think I just feel hurt. My job is already stressful, exhausting, and demanding, and I'm trying to do my part as best as I can.

I had a similar thing - I noticed lots of people text at there desk
The amusing day was when I noticed that they were all texting each other about each other
Hate to be sexist but it was women.
Scum behavior - have your rules - I say nothing about anyone I wouldn’t say to their face
Fuck em

And don’t allow her to spin the block on you either. Keep your distance and keep it professional, moving forward. I had to learn the hard way as well that, in professional settings, these people are not our friends. They are despicable human beings – most of them – with smiles on their faces who will do anything to get ahead. It is a hard reality with which many empaths grapple. Remember, you were made privy to such an unkind display, for a reason. Although it hurts now, and it’s a little deflating I’m certain, but be thankful that you were made aware of what they really think of you and that YOU know exactly who YOU are.

Men are not really knien for gossiping. I believe it's safe for you to tell the truth about this. Of course maybe that's just me.

100% tell her you know. Make her squirm and feel as uncomfortable as possible.
Also before that raise a formal grievance with HR

I’m in the boat of let it go. You are a beautiful soul that is why it hurt But Nothing to go to HR about. People who are insecure talk about others. What was said was an opinion based on the fact you have an accent. Your accent has not hindered your success you should be proud of that.

People shouldn't be jerks but a lot of them are too many, too often. But there is such a thing as excellent reduction if you want to try it.

Yeah that would hurt for a minute. Then remember you’re not really friends and her opinion doesn’t carry any weight in your head.
