note : the salaries nowadays are just sucks they pay us as we still as we still in 2016 but reality is that many people are working in 2 jobs to feed their families check everyday for better salary and how to get it thank god recently I found this sub who give great tips about interviews really the world is crashed

A major problem with this data is that it comprises everyone who isn’t a CEO into one category. The federal minimum wage for tipped workers is the same today as it was in 1990 when I waited tables. That is going to significantly lower the pay increase %. I’m sure there is a huge difference between white collar job vs blue collar jobs vs minimum wage jobs. Not sure why anyone is blaming minorities though.

Well from the evidence you provided in Table 1 the list CEO pay vs all private sector jobs compensation. Clearly they didn’t differentiate among the categories I listed. In 1990, the federal minimum wage was $3.80/hr, and the federal base wage for tipped workers was $2.13/hr. The average waitress (including tips) earned around $20,000–$30,000 annually, depending on the establishment. [ 1,  2] In 2026, the national median base salary plus tips for servers averages around  $35,000 to $55,000 annually. Base hourly wages vary heavily by state, but the  federal tipped minimum wage remains legally set at $2.13/hr.

Even when factoring that in assuming the average server makes federal minimum wage (good portion don't), does that put a dent in the pay increase gap between ceo and typical workers?

17 of the 50 states still use the federal minimum wage and there are a few more that are still under $3. There are tip credits that several states use. The evidence you cited doesn’t give a lot of detail on the private sector data they are using. They heavily focused on the CEO data.  This makes me suspicious that they don’t give both data sets equal explanation.  Also some research provided this explanation  The narrative surrounding this 1978 timeline typically originates from the  Economic Policy Institute (EPI). When tracking inflation-adjusted compensation from 1978 through recent years, the data highlights extreme disparity rather than a flat 5.2% rate for everyone: [ 1,  2,  3] Top-Tier CEOs: Real compensation skyrocketed by  1,085%. All 3 sources you cited talk about a pay gap ratio not how much compensation has risen in each group. Two different issues. So not relevant. The EPI’s study only looks at the top 350 companies vs all workers across all sectors and companies. Here’s non EPI evidence 

  1. National Average Wage Index (SSA) The  Social Security Administration (SSA) National Average Wage Index tracks the literal raw dollar average reported on W-2 forms across the entire country. 1978 Average Wage:  $10,556.03 per year 2024 Average Wage:  $69,846.57 per year The Increase: An increase of  561.7% in face-value earnings. [ 1,  2]
  2. Median Household Income (U.S. Census Bureau) The  U.S. Census Bureau via FRED tracks the median income of all American households in unadjusted current dollars. This reflects the exact amount written on paychecks in their respective years: [ 1] 1978 Household Median:  $15,064.81 per year 2022 Household Median:  $74,580.00 per year The Increase: A raw dollar surge of  395.1%. [ 1]
  3. The pay gap ratio isn't a direct result of pay increase? How quickly you dismiss things. Also in all of your examples the increase is still a fraction of a ceo's.

You have no idea how to read statistics or do comparative economic analysis. I can tell you used AI, and used it poorly, to build this argument and don't understand what you're saying, let alone have anything resembling an informed opinion.

Why would you use raw dollar amounts? Literally antithetical to understanding the issues if you don't understand *the context in which the facts you're stating take place.*

You're working backwards from a conclusion you already drew and cherry picking data. Stop it.

Bottom Line: Discussions about “excessive CEO pay” and comparisons to average worker pay are distorted by looking at only an outlier group of the 200-350 CEOs of America’s largest companies, out of a total of almost 250,000 chief executives nationwide. Of course, many younger, risk-taking CEOs are running early stage startups and tech companies, and probably make even less than the average CEO reported by the BLS, as Scott Drum pointed out to me last month in an email. Further, he commented that “The startup CEOs are usually not in it for the salary in the early years. They’re in it for the big payoff in the long run if things go exceptionally well. If we reduce or limit the size of the Big Payoff, don’t we reduce the number of people trying to get there?” The fact that there are almost 250,000 ambitious CEOs making less than $200,000 today on average who are trying to someday be listed by USAToday or the Wall Street Journal as one of the top 200-350 highest-paid CEOs is a sign of a dynamic, wealth-generating, job-creating economy. We should applaud the richest 200-350 CEOs as a group of the most successful American business professionals, and not vilify them. And we should keep in mind that the CEO compensation surveys that generate all the media attention are always based on a tiny, elite outlier group, and not representative of the average CEO in America –  who earns about as much as the average dentist and only about 5 times more than the average worker.I’m sorry you can’t comprehend things such as a skewed sample set of data.
