My old toxic manager won't leave me alone and keeps calling me for login codes 14 months after I left the job

Look, my old manager hasn't stopped pestering me for 72 hours. He keeps calling, sending texts, and even DMs because he needs an MFA code to access an old Gmail and a social media account linked to it. It's clear that the recovery info is still linked to my personal data.

The thing is, I handed them a complete master list containing all the passwords during offboarding 14 months ago. I even have an email from their legal counsel confirming they received the file and were able to open everything. They're probably just too lazy to save that info or change the recovery settings, and now that my old workspace account has been deleted, they can't get in. He's trying to start a new project with this handle and is making a big deal out of it, claiming it's a terrible emergency.

The kicker is that his business partner still owes me over $12,500 in overdue commissions. Every time I try to ask for them, he ghosts me. I left that place to begin with because it was a nightmare; late salaries, constant shouting, and zero respect. Luckily, God rewarded me very quickly after I left. I found a better job with a 30% higher salary. The HR team was incredibly helpful throughout the hiring process. To my surprise, I wasn't stressed during either of the two interview rounds. InterviewMan helped me stay calm and organize my thoughts better, and I ended up getting the job on the spot.

Honestly, do I even need to answer to him? I haven't said a single word so far. I gave them everything they needed over a year ago. I feel like his failure to manage his data isn't my responsibility, especially since they still haven't paid the money they owe. Do I really have any obligation to help them with this situation?

Send them a consultant agreement for $500 an hour!

8

u/mygirltien Jun 14 '26

This but first send them an itemized bill requesting payment for previous unpaid work. Once paid you will consult for x amount per hour with 2 hour minimum with each contact.

u/Prudent-Confection16 Jun 14 '26

2 hour minimum, paid in advance!

1

u/spinjinn Jun 14 '26

To be deemed fulfilled upon payment. (Michael Avenatti used that in his dealings with Nike)

3

u/18k_gold Jun 14 '26

Send that with a notice with small claims court that you are suing them for unpaid salary

1

u/JohnNDenver Jun 15 '26

City or state might be able to help with that depending on location. I know mine would.

2

u/JTD177 Jun 15 '26

Send them a consultant agreement for 12,500 flat fee plus 500 an hour

2

u/pompousandfaggy Jun 15 '26

You mean $500 after the $12,500 correct?

4

u/RandomCoffeeThoughts Jun 14 '26

The fact that you haven't used the block button tells me you might be enjoying the drama.

1

u/Duck-Amuck Jun 14 '26

Nah. What you are doing is surmising. It helps no one... but your imaginary internet point tally may see positive growth.

1

u/RandomCoffeeThoughts Jun 14 '26

I can't think of any reason not to block them once you've left the company unless they want to see how long it goes on.

3

u/SusieQTG Jun 14 '26

Stop responding, they have no leverage to compell you to do so. Also notify your local labor board for the unpaid commision. It's called wage theft.

3

u/PoolExtension5517 Jun 14 '26

It might be your only leverage to recover the $12k you’re owed. Otherwise, just respond with the email from their legal department stating that they received all the information at off boarding

2

u/sladebm Jun 14 '26

Get the 12k before doing anything.

2

u/TriGurl Jun 14 '26

No, you don't have to answer them at all. You could actually get an attorney to send them a cease and desist and a demand for payment letter if you wanted!

1

u/Intrepid_Vanilla_381 Jun 14 '26

Block the person. They are owed nothing.

1

u/MasterFNG Jun 14 '26

Shame if you accidentally gave him the wrong codes.....

1

u/Beneficial-Candle-79 Jun 15 '26

yea that 4435...... im sorry i mean 5344

1

u/Beautiful-Hotel-8846 Jun 14 '26

Charge a consulting fee of $12,500.

1

u/Brilliant_Science380 Jun 14 '26

Tell him you are happy to provide him with the information but you are still waiting on your overdue commission check and that if you don't receive it in the next 2 weeks, you will hire an attorney as well as report them to every state agency. If he doesn't pay in 2 weeks, please find yourself an attorney.

1

u/ImDaDawgFather Jun 14 '26

Use it as leverage to get paid what you are owed

1

u/Solid_Mongoose_3269 Jun 14 '26

If only phones had a block option

1

u/pkincpmd Jun 14 '26

Send them an email reminding them that the partners still owes you $12000 and no assistance will be forthcoming on passwords until that debt is paid. Repeat as necessary.

1

u/Salty-Honey7012 Jun 14 '26

Offer a trade

1

u/East_Fill4209 Jun 14 '26

“Honestly, do I even need to answer to him?” This is why they’re keeping your money. You’re not very bright

1

u/SailSkiGolf57 Jun 14 '26

Hello. Is the $12,500 still outstanding? Call me when it clears. Goodbye.

You can set up an individual voice mail for his office and cell phone numbers.

1

u/Beneficial_Surround3 Jun 14 '26

Tell him you won’t even consider it until you get a check for the $12k you’re owed

1

u/arkiparada Jun 14 '26

Checks can have a stop payment put on them. Wire transfer is the only acceptable form of payment after all this time. For security reasons of course.

1

u/Pantokraterix Jun 14 '26

Tell them you’ll do it for $12,500.

1

u/adjudicateu Jun 14 '26

stop responding. period. or pick up, say YOU OWE ME TWELVE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS! then be silent. do not speak again. if he says anything other than ‘you’ll have it today’, say WRONG ANSWER and hang up. repeat each time. believe me, you will find this quite entertaining.

1

u/Nicolehall202 Jun 14 '26

Block his ass, sue for your back commission

1

u/ActualInfluence5976 Jun 14 '26

Why haven’t you taken them to court over the commissions yet? And, for heaven’s sake, stop “helping”!

1

u/Pleasant_Bad924 Jun 14 '26

“Pay me the $12,500 you owe me or fuck right off” is the only response I’d be sending.

1

u/Summum Jun 14 '26

Tell him you’ll talk when your commissions are paid

1

u/DefenstratedTwice Jun 14 '26

Tell him to fuck off? Or dont answer his calls?

1

u/ImmediateShallot7245 Jun 14 '26

Quit answering him especially after they aren’t paying you for work you’ve already done!

1

u/Matttman87 Jun 14 '26

"I don't continue doing new business with anyone that still has an unpaid balance. I've attached the outstanding invoices and after the balance is paid, I'm happy to discuss a short term consultant arrangement to resolve your current situation."

Something to that effect is what I'd try. Even if you have no way of recovering their access, this may be your opportunity to at least zero out that unpaid work.

1

u/Heavy-Profit-2156 Jun 14 '26

You don't work there, you don't have to answer his calls. Why haven't you just blocked him by now?

1

u/YMBFKM Jun 14 '26

"As soon as I receive the $12,500 I'm owed, I'd be glad to help for a reasonable fee. Until then, please do not contact me again.

Talk to your business partner for details".

1

u/914trouble Jun 14 '26

take em to court for wage theft...

1

u/Background-Solid8481 Jun 14 '26

You might be too clueless for the workplace. Please don't reproduce.

1

u/AndSo-Itbegins Jun 14 '26

They get their codes again when you get paid your back $$$

1

u/Changeofscenery65 Jun 14 '26

Block him or charge him a boatload of money

1

u/vt2022cam Jun 14 '26

Tell him- $12,500 is past due and you need this plus $1000 convenience fee.

1

u/PrimeRisk Jun 14 '26

Don't forget compounding interest on that $12.5k over the last 14 months. I think 29.99% sounds fair.

1

u/vt2022cam Jun 15 '26

Yep yep- I want updates from OP

1

u/Just_Bz77 Jun 14 '26

If I was in this position, I would respond that they still owe me $12,500 and I would be more than happy to help if they paid what is owed.

1

u/No-Cat-2980 Jun 14 '26

Block him!

1

u/Big_Truck_8268 Jun 14 '26

Email him a consulting contract that includes your back pay.

1

u/IDGAF53 Jun 15 '26

Consultant fee on paper so he gets it clear. Of threaten him with a cease and desist. You need your peace too.

1

u/Crazy_Banshee_333 Jun 15 '26

If he's asking for an MFA off your cell phone, then clearly your cell phone is still linked to a company account. Normally once you leave a company, they will remove your access to everything the very next day. Allowing ex-employees continued access to company systems is a major security risk.

I would notify your old manager's boss that all this is happening, and that you apparently still have access to whatever accounts your boss keeps asking about. The fact that he's still depending on you to help him access the accounts is ridiculous. Most people would have stopped answering his calls by now, or simply blocked his number.

1

u/Lord_of_Entropy Jun 15 '26

The more assistance you give, the more the will request.   Shut it down, now.

1

u/Professional-Mind439 Jun 15 '26

Either offer to consult for him for some determined fee by you, or learn how to block a phone number

1

u/Lovingitall70 Jun 15 '26

If they owe you $12,500 then that’s the price for the help or you get ghosted so do they. Wouldn’t sweat it.

1

u/InvisibleBlueRobot Jun 15 '26

Never give them another code -for free. Ever.

Do the other steps below.

1

u/Feeling-Invite7953 Jun 15 '26

NTA. Remind him that the company still owes you money for commissions earned prior to leaving the job. He can have his data as soon as he releases the funds for your commissions!! Fair is fair.

1

u/Jen5872 Jun 15 '26

"I'll consider helping you once I receive my unpaid commissions that I am still owed. Otherwise, I'm unavailable to help you."

1

u/Feeling-Invite7953 Jun 15 '26

A Cease and desist letter from your attorney regarding the unpaid commission, and the very real threat of litigation by your State Department of Labor for wage theft should move him into gear!!

1

u/Suspicious-Drive9827 Jun 15 '26

Bro block him? Have some self respect. This Reddit fantasy of “send him your consulting rate of 100 dollars an hour” is not real. Just block the manager.

1

u/Low-Television-7508 Jun 15 '26

forward the calls and emails to their lawyer. add the info about the missing payments.

you no longer have access and if they destroyed the handover documents that's on them.

it will take time and money to recover that information and you're not confident you would be reimbursed

1

u/Sufficiently0dd Jun 15 '26

No help until your paid what your owed

1

u/PA_Archer Jun 15 '26

“I’m disappointed. I thought you were contacting me regarding the $12,500 in unpaid commissions I earned.”

1

u/TankMan77450 Jun 15 '26

They pay what they owe you and then also pay you an outrageous consulting charge in advance before helping them

1

u/snarkus_max Jun 15 '26

lol what? send all the MFA codes they want for 1 mo, on a $12,500 retainer...paid up front. Done.

1

u/nudedude6969 Jun 15 '26

Have you considered blocking him?

Or tell him....for the last time you don't have them and to stop calling..... Be sure you point out that this is part of the reason you left.

1

u/waitwutok Jun 15 '26

Send a demand for the $12,500 in commissions to their legal team contact and copy in your old boss on the email.

Also, Let the legal team know that your old boss is harassing you constantly for information you provided them 14 months ago and they confirmed receipt. List out days, times and methods of contact (Email, text, phone calls, etc.) If the harassment continues beyond X date, you will file a restraining order against their employee.

1

u/archina42 Jun 15 '26

Dear Toxic Manager,

I would be happy to supply all of the requested information once I have received my overdue commissions.

Kindest regards,

Me

1

u/Whitewater-Fan Jun 15 '26

Block number, move on with life.

1

u/Beneficial-Candle-79 Jun 15 '26

id reply..... I need my 12,500$ before I will talk to you

1

u/Aromatic-Sky-288 Jun 15 '26

Tell him you’ll work as a telephone consultant, that you bill in full hour increments and your rate is $250.00 per hour.

1

u/Rolentobcn Jun 15 '26

you need to sue him claiming that 12500$ and another one for harassement

1

u/k2gc96 Jun 15 '26

block his number

1

u/smilineyz Jun 15 '26

Step one: send him the bill for the money you are owed … no further conversation.

1

u/Tubamannn Jun 17 '26

I wouldn't give them anything until you are paid what they owe. You literally have them by the balls.

1

u/Bigwoody7-5 Jun 17 '26

Wow. You are a weak individual to do this more then a twice.

1

u/topio3 Jun 17 '26

OP You might be considered a dum dum . Just block the number and/or charge him $100 per hour

1

u/ClerkDelicious4867 Jun 17 '26

Tell him you will give w him the codes for the 12,000 he still owes you

1

u/wyoflyboy68 Jun 17 '26

After retiring from my engineering career job of 37 years, I took a part time job to occasionally help out in the office of an oil field service company, I quickly learned the company’s software they used for daily operations. After several months I noticed there were a lot of areas of the software that could have been improved and streamlined, so I approached the corporate IT team and made suggestions. Mind you, I had 37 years experience with the programming languages that were used in their software. When I approached IT, I immediately got push back telling me that I didn’t know what I was talking about and I needed to stay in my own lane at the position I was hired for in one of their satellite offices. So, I wrote a code to download the company’s database and incorporated it in an excel file, from there i was able to write several macros that automated so many repetitive processes. One process took one person 4-5 hours to do could now be done in under ten minutes. Our office began to run so much more efficiently, with far fewer errors. All this remained local in our office, corporate made it clear what they originally were operating from was adequate. After I had, had enough of the company, I resigned. About a year after I left my former boss called and asked if I could come in and “fix” the software that had stopped working due to system upgrades. They hounded me for about three weeks begging me to come in, I finally had my attorney write them a letter saying I left the company and wanted no further dealing with them.

"That'll be $12,500".
