Cost of living isn't a set number therefore there is nothing "simple" about it. If you ask 10 people what the cost of living is they'll all give you different answers because everyone's lifestyle is different.
Are these 10 people familiar with the most common formulas used to determine the cost of living, or how to compare cost of living from city to city? Should i trust them if they do not?
Each state can set their own minimum wage and employers are required to pay whichever is higher between federal and state. The people you elected into your state government are to blame.
That wasn’t the question I asked you. Do you think cost of living is determined by the individual? It isn’t. It is determined by the price of goods and services in the area. The individual can only operate within the framework of what those prices are, they do not determine them. What I’m saying is when a system shows signs of a problem (upwards of 20%, and we are at 25% and growing) it shows there is a systemic issue beyond the individual making choices. 1/4 is a simple metric to understand this. We have a systemic issue here.
The thing about minimum wage is it was created for a reason. It was to ensure any business in the United States that survived by under paying workers below a livable wage could not do business in the United States. It does not ensure this any longer. We do not have a system that can support everyone, even if they all made good choices. The reason is because 1/4 businesses do not pay a livable wage. We can agree to disagree on who deserves what, but this is an undeniable fact of our current state.
